@DragonFlyback256 During highway driving you have wind and rolling resistance. I see no problem with cutting over half the drag off these current 'bricks' of trucks.
It would of course improve mileage. But claiming that it's 50% flat out, is a bit exaggerated and fishy. As how the saying holds it, if you wanna lie, say numbers. Or something like that. Probably a better way of timing injection, and not inevitably by electronical means, would save as much fuel.
There has been a MASSIVE MISCALCULATION here..... what good is it having aerodynamics and all that when a 25st truck driver clutching a sausage filled breakfast roll cant get in it? Does it come with a hoist or sling of some kind?? That is my question.
this guy is the perfect crazy man. he literally fits every crazy man stereotype. randomly yelling, making extravagant rediculous claims, talking with that accent. it costs a million dollars! it swivels to turn! it has bad turning in streets! no steering wheel! thank god he didnt touch the engine, the whole thing might explode. 3:40 and 2:06 best parts. fifty perthent YARG!
This is stupid. Pay 100x for the silly, expensive to produce, expensive to maintain vehicle, only to save 50% on feul. I wonder how much a new windshield costs, lol. About a 100x a normal trucks windshield.
Colani says,"I don't understand this industry." And the way you design these trucks, you obviously don't understand truckers either. Change that wanna be "airplane" design and just make present trucks more aerodynamically fluid, how hard can that be seriously?
This guy knows his designing and everything but come on now.. I don't know about America but in Europe you could haul just a few pallets with that thing because of the length of the tractor. The trucks today are optimized for maximum loading capability so I think even though this is aerodynamically better and reduces the drag and gives better fuel economy alone and so on, you'd have to make thrice the trips to get all the cargo where it needs to be. That's pretty inefficient. Fuckinawsumguydoe
a joystick really? okay then if you want to cut reaction time by 80% and increase confusion by 90, joysticks shouldn't be for vehicles exceeding 40km/hr,
I don't think there is much though put into the safety aspect .A lot of trucks experience roll over when they leave the highway.I don't think the driver would have any chance .
the problem is on the business end....people want to drive boxy vehicles. They dont want to make money if it means driving a futuristic vehicle. Honey Im home!!! FUCK YOU BITCH, you spent all that money so you can cruise across the states in an old school truck?
Well, that's some extreme claims. I find them a little dubious though. Trucks don't travel fast enough for aerodynamics to be a significant fraction of their efficiency. Aerodynamic drag only starts to be relevant at high speeds. Which is fast trains have complicated curved noses, but slower ones just tend to be boxes on wheels... It's a wasted effort at low speeds.
aero dynamics is a constant.....it gets better and better as you pick up speed. What is this business about aerodynamics being RELEVANT AT HIGH SPEEDS? WTF is that dude? For your info, trucks will be complying to the new efficiency rules within 10 yrs - if you cant make a box do that then you are out of the truck business.
Check out the new 2013 Silverado....Chevy says the design is going to significantly improve on fuel economy. THIS is only the beginning. The next gen is going to look radical.
@Quartz482 OK, seriously, how can you not grasp a straight-forward statement. Aerodynamic drag is proportional to the square of velocity. Therefore, if you double the speed something travels at, the drag is quadrupled. At low speeds aerodynamic drag is negligible, and things such as rolling friction and transmission losses dominate. Learn some physics before you start implying I don't know what I'm talking about.
All you did was parrot what I just said...that the benefit of an aerodynamic design is constant and that it gets better as you accelerate. YOU then said the aerodynamic design is NEGLIGIBLE at low speed. Neglible is a great improvement from IRRELEVANT AS YOU put it in your original post. Your cut and paste expedition helped you shoot yourself in the foot...i didnt have to say anything.
...and btw, trucks that hit the highways in the USA travel at 70mph on average - that is 112kph. Those speeds for long haul trucking is going to save tens of thousands of dollars to the operator. They werent gonna use the rig to deliver a pizza pie.
@Quartz482 Right... Which is why railway engineers in the 1930's came to the conclusion aerodynamics doesn't matter much until you get above 100mph. But hey, tha's trains. I'm sure the design of a truck must follow totally different principles right?
@Quartz482 OK. I get it now. You're a troll. Go back and read my first comment, then tell me who's parroting whom. I said 'it's only relevant at high speeds'. Which is pretty much identical to saying it's of 'negligible significance' at low speeds. What the hell are you even arguing semantic nonsense for? Great job making yourself look like an idiot with your asinine accusations. My original statement and my second one say the same thing! So, again, who is copying who here? Hmm?
@KuraIthys OMG, dude, this is grade 8 sience. NEGLIBIBLE VS IRRELEVANT ARE TWO DIFFERENT WORDS. And no you can not be "pretty much" pregnant...you either are or not. Semantics is everything when it comes to politicians and people who want trash new technology and they have no ammo to do so.
@Quartz482 I never used the word irrelevant though did I? And from an engineering point of view, the two are much the same, because if something makes a negligible contribution to efficiency, it's a waste of effort designing for it. Especially when there are other factors that have a much bigger impact. Negligible, to an engineer, is a factor that isn't worth considering. So... It's 'only relevant at high speeds', because it's not worth the time & effort otherwise.
I've been a truck driver since I was 18, and learned when i was 10, if my boss came to me and said, "This is your new truck." I'd say, "Today is my last day, I'll never drive shit like that, it's bad enough that they make automatic transmissions on trucks, now this is what's next?"
The cab is to long. To hard to get in. To hard to work on. to much glass. to hot to stay in. Want interchange with other trailers. And to high to buy. And on the road it will not hold up.
So if most big trucks get 6mpg, he is saying his Million dollar truck gets 9 mpg. Better own that truck for about 20 years to make up the difference of a $125K truck. Just like electric cars, pay $5k more than a gas equivalent, your never saving any money, just fuel for some asshole with a H2 to buy.
i dont give a rats ass about fuel economy when it comes to driving a truck, if i want to drive, ill drive a REAL truck, not those fucking blobs of play-doh theyre calling "trucks"
Well theres a reason why trucks look the way they do today..... EVERYONE LOVES THE TRADITIONAL LOOK OF A PETERBILT OR A KENWORTH..... If I we're to ask you to draw a picture of a truck, it would be a box, with a stack on the side or the back...
I hate concept vehicles. It's nothing to do with practicality, and all about flash. Trucks are all about cost effectiveness. You need to maintain maximum capacity, both in volume and weight, while maintaining good visibility and maximum maneuverability in tight places. This concept offers none of that. There is a reason today's trucks have evolved to their current configuration.
Anyone that thinks that this is the way of the future for trucks...hasn't done any real trucking and doesn't understand the industry and the logistical hassles of the road.
@20cFilmWannabe it is very simple to mass produce metal in just about any shape. Mass producing this really won't be a problem. Yes, the initial costs will be high ... but that is the same for cars, boats, planes, trains etc etc.
@20cFilmWannabe your an idiot, "stupid shapes" will be more AERODYNAMIC shapes. ask any trucker around and I bet you that if they could have a more aerodynamic truck, they would. more aearodynamic trucks will mean cheaper costs for products as the cost of transport decreases, not to mention less delay on highways caused by "slow" trucks of today, as well a number of other benefits.
Truckers like to decorate their rigs, you know like the big chrome stacks and huge bumpers.I would like to be a truck driver and I pray they won't bring that over here because that truck made my eyeballs throw up. trucks from 1985-present look best. I want to see Petes KW,s and freightliners.
great ideas and ingnuity usually comes from wacky types like this guy...No matter what u think..the fact that most trucks consume enuf fuel in one year to pay for another truck...why wouldnt he be considered..
@Plaaliss true its hard enough to maneuver in big cities as it is now they want to give us this wannbe trucks if we start driving these things I will hand in my cdl.
I could probably buy 5 regular Semi's with its cost, tow more stuff, and have a better consumption/dollar. He should rather research on how to make his toys cheaper.
Yeah its streamlined but its also completely impracticable. Where are the fog lights for driving at night and wheres the bull bar to stop roos or cows coming through the windscreen when you hit them at 120km/h? where are the rear view mirrors, and where is the spacious sleeper so drivers can actually survive being out on the road for weeks at a time. The list of basic but necessarily features this truck is missing is endless and if you added them it would just become a normal truck again.
This Guy is a moron! you would only sell this in America or the out back where the roads would take this size. Can anyone honestly say that you'd get this down a normal UK street? Answers to ze cray german
It's not even fuel efficient at all, his truck requires a 500bhp diesel engine to move it and can only do 13mpg. This guy is not at all intelligent, just rich and crazy. If you want fuel efficiency, go to VW and ask them to make you an XL1, 313mpg...
@Coffeemonkey07 you base your assumption on..? the talk of this docu is aerodynamics, he mentions that nothing was done to the engines. stop having gay ass logic.
Im sure it will be very fuel efficient, but what will the safety numbers be. Looks like any crash will result in serious injury. My life is worth more than any amount i could save in fuel. its just like newer cars are about 15 times less safe than the older heavier cars.
I am a day trucker...in and out of my cab all day... city, highway and rural driving. This is...ok a new idea...but I think I would fall asleep at the wheel in this truck. I don't recline that much at home in my easy chair! With a big payload a driver needs to be in a more reactive position while driving...plus reclined I would have coffee , chili beans, fried chicken and who knows what staines all over my Packers t-shirt. Back to the drawing board.

I could probably buy 5 regular Semi's with its cost, tow more stuff, and have a better consumption/dollar. He should rather research on how to make his toys cheaper.

What a piece of shit. This is what you get when someone designs a truck, who has never driven a truck.

1:50 this machine is super HORRIBLE , we call IT SUCKS !
locotenentu22 2 months ago
Yeah its streamlined but its also completely impracticable. Where are the fog lights for driving at night and wheres the bull bar to stop roos or cows coming through the windscreen when you hit them at 120km/h? where are the rear view mirrors, and where is the spacious sleeper so drivers can actually survive being out on the road for weeks at a time. The list of basic but necessarily features this truck is missing is endless and if you added them it would just become a normal truck again.

how would he approach motorhomes and motorcoaches from his own idea of aerodynamics?

First of all, his concord on wheels is even bigger than the normal concord!
Second of all, its ugly.

It's not even fuel efficient at all, his truck requires a 500bhp diesel engine to move it and can only do 13mpg. This guy is not at all intelligent, just rich and crazy. If you want fuel efficiency, go to VW and ask them to make you an XL1, 313mpg...
cncgeneral 2 months ago
@Coffeemonkey07 you base your assumption on..? the talk of this docu is aerodynamics, he mentions that nothing was done to the engines. stop having gay ass logic.

Im sure it will be very fuel efficient, but what will the safety numbers be. Looks like any crash will result in serious injury. My life is worth more than any amount i could save in fuel. its just like newer cars are about 15 times less safe than the older heavier cars.
Roadman4you 2 months ago
@Roadman4you that is just stupid cars now are far safer than they have been. silly comment

Because truck companies are going to spend their entire yearly earnings on 2 trucks... just to go to the same place at the same speed.
