Chris Lee is one bad-ass mother-f***er! No one could fill a movie screen with so much menace and evil, then seduce a beautiful lady right under her man's nose. He dominated every scene he's in, ever when the movie wasn't up to Hammer's usual standards. He would flick away today's vampires like a dried booger! Christopher Lee`s Dracula never got the hang(bad pun intended)of turning into a bat-would of helped him out in more than a few of those old Hammer films.Lee is one of the best actors ever and has not only a great speaking voice but a wonderful singing voice as well!Bela Lugosi was disappointed in his own 1931 performance (as he should have been).He was denied repeated requests to do a remake.The only time he was ever to play the Count was in the comedy "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein."

I will always prefer Max Schreck as the Count in "Nosferatu" (I'm a fan of repulsive and frightening vampires). I also really liked Klaus Kinski in the remake. But Christopher Lee was by far the best of the "sexy" type Draculas. He put that lame Edward from "Twilight" to shame! Lee was both frightening and sexy. I never liked Bela Lugosi's hammy performance in "Dracula". Peter Cushing will always be the best Van Helsing. Whenever I hear that name I think of him...

Peter Cushing + Christopher Lee = Best Van Helsing/Dracula pairing in history. I'm not necessarily saying that each was the best at their respective roles, but as arch-nemeses they were the best. Their final confrontation at the end of Horror of Dracula is one of the greatest scenes in film history. Two wonderful actors at the prime of life makes for truly breathtaking cinema.

Lee and Cushing were close friends in real life for many years.In his bio,Chris tells of how he and an actress ( in one Dracula movie ) fell into a fake grave with Lee on top of the actress.Cushing said to Lee," we're not making that KIND of movie". :)They all had a good laugh over it.When Cushing was dying,Lee visited him for the last time,they sang some Jimmy Durante song together.Lee has a good voice.

I'm open to hearing other people's opinions, but, despite Lee's wonderfully rich sounding voice, I don't think the guy can act, and certainly his Dracula has nothing on Lugosi. I have a recording of Lee reading stories and poems by E. A. Poe. They were recorded in the 70's, and, if I could find the same stories read by any body else, I think I'd prefer the other guy. Lee has no sense of character and no sense of timing for either clarity or horror. His popularity is a pity.

If Christopher Lee was here, he would tell you his films of dracula and others by Hammer films were not Horror films and in fact he hated that word along with most people in the Hammer film industry. They didn think of their films as horror but more of a fantasy type genre, but he did comment that horror films are the vile revolting type of things seen in these modern day horror films. As they are Showed in very high detail, that is what a horror film is and he is not fond of them.

Check out Christopher Lee in "Count Dracula", made in 1970. It's not a British film and it's budget was even lower than that of Hammer going into the 70's, but Lee said it was the only time that he actually enjoyed playing Dracula. Director, Jess Franco, made sure he got enough dialogue. "Count Dracula" isn't great, but it's not bad either.
