The atmosphere in this crowd was awesome!! So many people stoked to see these guys back on stage and they absolutely owned it. So glad I was there and can't wait for them to return. Will is doing a great job in my opinion.

I love AIC. I have no beef against the new singer, and I love their new songs! I love how their haven't lost their core. That being said the new singer singing songs that layne sang doesn't feel right to me and sure as hell ain't the same. IT's a good COVER but thats all.

Nah, I don't agree with the notion that Layne was AIC. Jerry Cantrell is and was the driving force to alice in chains, as you see the sound with a different frontman is somewhat the same. Look at all the cameos by other artists, the music is still Alice In Chains. R.I.P. Layne, but they took 3 years off and now they are back hopefully to stay.
DuVall is a great singer and I'm glad that we AiC fans have him to continue this great band. There will never be another Layne Staley, but if AiC isn't gonna just be buried, we do need a new frontman, and we got DuVall. Don't compare him to Layne because there was only one Layne. DuVall has an great voice, but if I have one criticism, it's that he tries too hard himself to be Layne. I dont know... I am just not okay with this band still being called Alice in Chains but no Layne. I think it would have sat better with me, and I would have been more likely to buy a CD or go to a concert if they did what Velvet Revolver did: change the name of the band... I agree with BustinBenny. AIC is Jerry's band. Layne was the voice in the early days, but he he didn't even come up with the majority of the lyrics that he sang. I was skeptical that any other singer could fill Layne's shoes, but Will Duvall has done an outstanding job. He's never gonna replace Layne, but he's a badass singer in his own right!
@MrDocj78 What do you get your info? It wasn't Jerry's band, Layne was in several bands before, 'Sleeze' which was a Glam band and 'Alice N Chainz' a metal band. Jerry and Layne met at a party when Jerry didn't have a home so Layne took him in. They jammed at the Music Bank where they met Sean Kinney and they began making demo's. Mike Starr was an acquaintance of Sean's and from their they formed the band, taking the name of Layne's other band that had by this stage disbanded.
@MrDocj78 On-top of that! Layne wrote a shit-load of the lyrical content! Including some of their biggest hits; Hate to Feel, Angry Chair and Man in the Box. He wrote more than half the lyrics for their 'Dirt' album and contributed a lot to 'Facelift' and their 'SAP' & 'Jar of Flies' EP's. The only material Cantrell can take a lot of the credit for is their self titled album in 1995, Layne wasn't focused on the band because of his drug related problems. Kinney and Cantrell wrote that album.

Layne was a talanted singer - no doubt about it - but there are limits to how much friends and coworkers can help such a person pull through. layne brought the emotion and tha power. Yes the new guy can sing very well, but where AiC 2 suffers as opposed tot the original line up, was the beautiful and powerful lyrics that Layne brought. The man was troubled and communicate it so in such a beautiful way that I'm yet to find with AiC 2.
I went to see Alice In Chains in portland maine last week. For those who haven't seen william perform yet, I'd like to mention that the stuff posted on youtube really doesn't even come close to showing how good he really is, honestly there were times when I had to remind myself I wasn't hearing layne.
He's doing an insane job at stepping up as singer in alice in chains, I think people shouldn't look for a replacement of layne. You can't -replace- the leadsinger of any band. Layne had his own sound that can not be replicated. Duvall does have a nice sound and twist to his own version of singing the song. Duvall is way better than any other person who did a cover for this song. Fact is if the fans had a problem with it, they would all have their backs turned to the stage but instead there rockin out. There keepin AIC alive out of respect for layne and not letting his legacy and music be a thing of the past. As long as AIC is around so will be the memory of Layne.

DuVall is a great singer and I'm glad that we AiC fans have him to continue this great band. There will never be another Layne Staley, but if AiC isn't gonna just be buried, we do need a new frontman, and we got DuVall. Don't compare him to Layne because there was only one Layne. DuVall has an great voice, but if I have one criticism, it's that he tries too hard himself to be Layne. I saw a video of Would where he was clapping throughout the song and got the crowd to do the same. Trying too hard

So give DuVall a chance. He was definetaly a great vocalist on Black Gives Way to Blue. He has big shoes to fill, hence him occasionally acting like a tool on stage. He has a long musical background and I'm confident that he'll find his niche as the frontman of Alice in Chains. RIP Layne Staley.

I dont know... I am just not okay with this band still being called Alice in Chains but no Layne. I think it would have sat better with me, and I would have been more likely to buy a CD or go to a concert if they did what Velvet Revolver did: change the name of the band... Layne was the face of the band, and personally I cant detach Alice in Chains from his memory

@BustinBenny Yeah, I agree Jerry should carry on and that he's been through a lot, but we shouldn''t reduce Layne to a recluse drug addict. And to call him hopeless?? I know that was the way he was right at the end, and I know he always has his demons, but come on, Layne was a funny, creative, gentle best friend to these guys. Even Jerry says that people cannot underestimate the effect that Layne had on the songs and harmonies, in ways that the rest of the band couldn't do.

I agree with BustinBenny. AIC is Jerry's band. Layne was the voice in the early days, but he he didn't even come up with the majority of the lyrics that he sang. I was skeptical that any other singer could fill Layne's shoes, but Will Duvall has done an outstanding job. He's never gonna replace Layne, but he's a badass singer in his own right!

@MrDocj78 What do you get your info? It wasn't Jerry's band, Layne was in several bands before, 'Sleeze' which was a Glam band and 'Alice N Chainz' a metal band. Jerry and Layne met at a party when Jerry didn't have a home so Layne took him in. They jammed at the Music Bank where they met Sean Kinney and they began making demo's. Mike Starr was an acquaintance of Sean's and from their they formed the band, taking the name of Layne's other band that had by this stage disbanded.

@MrDocj78 On-top of that! Layne wrote a shit-load of the lyrical content! Including some of their biggest hits; Hate to Feel, Angry Chair and Man in the Box. He wrote more than half the lyrics for their 'Dirt' album and contributed a lot to 'Facelift' and their 'SAP' & 'Jar of Flies' EP's. The only material Cantrell can take a lot of the credit for is their self titled album in 1995, Layne wasn't focused on the band because of his drug related problems. Kinney and Cantrell wrote that album.

Layne was a talanted singer - no doubt about it - but there are limits to how much friends and coworkers can help such a person pull through. I've seen people trying to help girlfriends with problems, she pulled him with her.

layne brought the emotion and tha power. Yes the new guy can sing very well, but where AiC 2 suffers as opposed tot the original line up, was the beautiful and powerful lyrics that Layne brought. The man was troubled and communicate it so in such a beautiful way that I'm yet to find with AiC 2.

Layne had his own sound that can not be replicated. Duvall does have a nice sound and twist to his own version of singing the song. Duvall is way better than any other person who did a cover for this song. Fact is if the fans had a problem with it, they would all have their backs turned to the stage but instead there rockin out. There keepin AIC alive out of respect for layne and not letting his legacy and music be a thing of the past. As long as AIC is around so will be the memory of Layne.

I forced myself to stop being close minded and listen to the album and I must say that I'm impressed... I mean it's not quite the same but it's great. I love Layne Staley and I think he was one of the greatest vocalist of all time, he is dearly missed. I respect the bands decision to move on, they worked too hard to just throw it all away.
