well maybe it works against more opponents, but what if somebody just graps his leg, and kicks him to the ground, I think it`s goodbye taekwondo then. I like to be more allround instead of focussing on just one part like kicking. :)
This is really good, I take tae kwon do too and just got my first degree black belt a few weeks ago and it was tough on the sparring part, in my class on our first degree black belt test we have to spar 10 to 12 rounds and don't get a water break at all, and my instructor would make us do a lot of punch and kick combinations to make us tired because he said "if your not tired before you spar your not working hard enough", and if more people come to your test to spar, you have to fight more.
this is why tkd not really works with multiple opponents, maybe combine it with knees and stuff, cause if the attackers get too close you can`t kick anyore.
And got the idea that not every attacker in this video does tkd as a sport, cause I see a karateka and some guy in jeans, looks like he was just picked out of the people who were there watching :) but still my respect to the guy who was doing the exam :)
@Duiveltje78 I agree with you, especially cause most TKD is about the sport and scoring points. When your wearing protective armor hurting your opponent is ...unlikely, so they have less reason to back off. But when your surrounded by 3 dudes just bashing you, I dont see how you can get out if they aren't feeling any pain
@owainmeurig Thats WTF style, you are probably used to ITF which is mainly white and black, WTF styles can be in all colours... stupid i know, WTF has no class.
I would say the guys testing are pretty good. They get the concept of kicking to counter a kick, instead of the 'I kick you kick' crap that I see on alot of other videos. There is always room for improvement, though. That's why there are 9 degrees. I will say in two on one and three on one sparring, you shouldn't sit in the middle and get your ass kicked. You can't keep up. You should always try to put one of the opponents between you and the other fighter(s) as much as possible.
Im going to go ahead and laugh. At 3:55 the guy in JEANS, stance is not a fighting stance. Its like a anime tv show fight style. He might as well give up.
@DiDolRuChagi - on 3:55 thats not TKD stance. Looks like he tries to do one of the karate kata stances, though it is badly done. Sadly, I'm not familiar enough with karate terminology to name it. It is definately not a battle, more like practice stance. Anyway, in this test it doesn't have any meaning at all, because all he does is just rushing forward with the bad waist kick
@Noisekarast ...Hmmm. Ive done TKD for 7 years, and I know that is not a TKD stance. And given the situation "Sparring" I would only assume its his sparring stance, which then I criticized.
Yep this is absolute bilge. Black belt testing should be testing the students knowledge of the Martial Art NOT the sport. Fighting to Olympic rules BADLY, does not merit a black belt.
So many people here giving advice on how to kick..what about punching, takedowns, restraint and evasion? Rubbish.
@MrEllaitch Taekwondo is both a martial art AND a sport. Someone who is going to be a black belt needs to be proficient at all aspects of taekwondo, not just those that are good for beating people up. The takedowns, restraint, and evasion you are talking about are part of the hosinsul, and I'm sure these students were tested on that as well before they got their black belts.
Yes of course, one posted video out of context does not constitute an entire representation of this person's grading. One would hope ho sin sul would have played a major part in determining the award of a black belt...perhaps that is what they should have filmed instead of this?
im going to take blackbelt exam on sept. 5 hir in philippines, they said that i need to prepare that kind of stuff 3 vs me... wer member of wtf.... u?
no offense to tkd at all, but i really dont like the martial art, personally cant see how u can defend urself in close range with just kicking.. i do zdk and i have had a light spar with a tkd student and i saw so many weak spots, u should cover ur head more coz if ur versing sum1 who nows how to lay a punch then bam! ur gone, lol just like the guy i versed... neways thts my opinion, to each their own lol...
yeah, alot of tkd fighters try to stay in their confort zone with kicking and then continue to kick then people get in close, if they are taught right then they are actually really good fighters
when fighting 2 ppl stay out of the middle, use one as a barricade and focus on just one person. Try and keep the other one behind him. I wouldnt worry, you did good. Its always hard to fight 2 people. Ive had to fight 4 before so I know how knackering it can be.
i don't want to sound like I'm hating but u should keep your hands up and throw some back kicks (best kick ever) personally i don't think u should be fighting more than one person because TKD is more of a sport and not the best for street fighting but good job.
u did pretty good. on my blk belt testing i had to fight 2 ppl at once for 3 minutes non stop. i could barely go on after about a minute =P lol but i was so scared when i was sparring cuz at my test there was like a 100 spectators and i was on the floor all by myself sparring these 2 guys like double my height lol and im only 4'9" so ya
not half bad u managed 2 pull through a little tip tho dnt throw so much round kicks, add sum spinning hooks or a jump reverse. also ur intructor was rite keep ur hands up and dnt 4get 2 mix it up.
Good job. Just a little tip when taking on more than one fighter...move around until you have them lined up and keep them lined while you're sparring. Keep up the good work!
if this is black belt level tham i am a grand master, this is a dissgrace to martial arts he should be handed back his white belt.

Agreed! Tae Kwon Do is a great martial art when practiced as it was designed by the founder. Too many schools have lost their way.

Chase12083 8 months ago
@Chase12083I'm a second degree black belt in taekwondo.
I quit several years ago which was an all time high disappointment. (at the time it was not)
Anyways, to cut to the point I just met up with my old instructor from a new friend. (who happens to be taught by him + 2nd degree)
I could join back with my second degree and teach classes, 4:30pm to 7:30pm for $50+ a day.
Not to bad while I attend College @19.

It's even funnier that these guys take themselves seriously. I love the waist-high spin kicks.
Use that in a real fight.

It was supposed to simmulate a real fight, wasn't it?
I think it failed then.
If it's just friendly sparring OK. But as the title says "TKD 1st Degree Black Belt" I was waiting for something more.
Don't take me wrong. I like TKD. I'm only kinda disapointed.
