  • Problem is most of the production is overseas, we sit like fat americans consuming everything and everyone in foreign countries are producing everything.

  • I agree, and the other thing these cars work good, and some of them are my dream cars, and some of them are Commercial vehicles there scrapping, its like Traiding in your old Kenworth tractor for a New Prius while they destroy the Kenworth. then how are you supposed to pull a 50 foot trailer with a prius? you can't. and if there no trucks then there no goods flowing.

  • Same thing here in the USA last year. SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND vehicles scraped. Was that really a good idea?

  • I hate this scheme, partly because all it's doing is sending our money abroad (we dont make cars or even own any of you volume car companies anymore) and getting us all into more debt, which is crazy in a recession!!!!, not only that but think of the damage that is being done to the planet by making all these new cars, all the wasted oil, metal and energy that goes into making all these unnecessary bloody things!!! This government really are thick as fcuk!!!

  • This is true the government is trying to get people into debt

  • thank fuck, someone telling the truth about this greenwashing scam!

fuck the govt liars - they say they'll give you 2 grand towards a new car?! why not give out 2 grand to run the old one, THAT STILL WORKS PERFECTLY WELL, therefore causing no more use of resources.

the car industry is completely fucked up & hugely wasteful - something that costs that much money has to be built to last a lifetime, with guaranteed low-cost replacement parts, even upgrades. they need to design them modularly.

  • I hear ya. There's a reason why some people have cars over 10 years old, being that they can't afford anything else. It is actually more polluting to scrap a car and make another than to drive around in one. Hypocrits. I agree it has brought more jobs in, but they should not scrap good, safe reliable cars worth more than 2k. Plus I hate the fact that some classics have gone through all this.

  • Excellent points, the whole thing is yet another scam, and I know many people who have got sucked into this because they have the misinformation that old cars are bad for the environment... which is of course a load of nonsense

  • Its not a good idea at all is it! Its all about cash. This is not recycling, its scrapping perfectly good cars that are almost as clean running as the new ones that replace them. The production of a new car is hugely polluting. Yet the public fall for it. Going green my A*****e. AND the £2000 saving on your new PRICE HIKED car is more than lost by the time you drive it home!!!

So, sell your old car for a few hundred, and buy one a year old or so and save way more than £2k SIMPLE!

  • lol yeah they do, but they cost money, you got 10 grand on you?

  • joshieboi005: Not all cars over 10 years old are crap. BTW do u know anything about cars? I think not. Oh yeah, and I can't look at a new car without falling asleep. Classics are best.

  • You are clueless and immature, so really, your opinion doesn't count...

  • Excellent Points

  • i think the government should stay out of it altogether, to tax something is to artificially kill demand and to subsidize is to artificially stimulate demand

  • At the end of the day, we need a lot more debunking - and there are so many subjects to choose from with this current corrupt administration. Personally, I think they should introduce govt scrappage. As in, scrap this lot, and sell off the rubbish MP's and recycle them!

  • What would make more sense would be to offer a better discount on fuel efficient cars. Good for the consumer, better for the environment. Of course, not so good for the govt or its buddies in the oil industries. This scheme only works if the following 2 conditions are met - 1) you were looking for a new car anyway, and yours is not worth 2k trade in, + b) you can afford it. Most people should be able to negotiate at least 2k off a new car, but this now means that dealers dont have to bother....

  • We need more voices like yours! Hell, this government has no idea.
