That's actually not a holding penalty. The Tech offensive lineman there does NOT have to disengage the block when Orakpo spins, so that block was perfectly legal. It make have looked bad, but that lineman was allowed to maintain his block after Orakpo made his spin move.

I think they were trying to appease the whiny Tech fans who cried foul & made up penalties when they got beat the years before. Even their coach, Leach, complained to Big XII officials after the game. Interestingly enough, after the meeting he came back to Lubbock awfully quiet about the situation. Obviously, proven wrong.
when in the spread your tackles must hold a lil on every play, the inside linemen hold more than tackles do tho, cuase DT use the bull rush and power swim. with that being said, that block by T Tech, was a holding penalty that wasnt called. FACT... defensive linemen can also be called for holding under certain circumstances

As for the play itself, I think it was a hold, barely, at the end, but one that had no bearing on the play itself. It wasn't holding until about the :30 mark, when Rylan Reed impeded Orakpo's movement in the opposite direction. By that time, unfortunately, Orakpo was injured and out of the play.

Was it enough to make a difference in the outcome of the game? Who knows. But I will say that no offensive line in the Big 12 Conference played dirtier that that of Texas Tech.

But that being said, I do strongly believe that the Tech o-line in that game held more than in any game I have ever seen in my life. If you want to know the true story behind that, Orakpo hurt his knee during the spin move and the Tech O-lineman was trying to hold him up as you can clearly see in the replay. He was trying to stop him from getting hurt. Holding would be taking him down, not holding him up. Orakpo fell on his own and it was sad that he got hurt, but it wasn't holding.

Texas will win. Texas tech will loose. Tech isn't a bad team, but I've seen them when they lose. Just like everyone else who likes a certain college team, they'll be pissed as soon as they know the game's over; then they'll leave.
The Stadium will probably hit 110 or 110 thousand capacity, but as soon as Texas holds it down in the 4'th, Tech fans WILL be pissed and end up leaving.

I recently watched a replay of that game & there was a major hold on at least 80% of every critical drive. Most were directly in front of the refs. I think they were trying to appease the whiny Tech fans who cried foul & made up penalties when they got beat the years before. Even their coach, Leach, complained to Big XII officials after the game. Interestingly enough, after the meeting he came back to Lubbock awfully quiet about the situation. Obviously, proven wrong.

when in the spread your tackles must hold a lil on every play, the inside linemen hold more than tackles do tho, cuase DT use the bull rush and power swim. with that being said, that block by T Tech, was a holding penalty that wasnt called. FACT... defensive linemen can also be called for holding under certain circumstances

Technically you're correct, the game had no bearing on Tech's bowl chances. However, it created more exposure and publicity than any game last season, exposure and publicity that went pretty much directly to Tech, and that's much more important in the long run.

Hey Indynation. You can't blame that on the left tackle, that was just a fluke. Yes I think our LT held him, but the reason he hyper-extended his knee was because he tried to spin at the EXACT time that our LT tried to pancake him. They were both doing they're jobs and Orakpo went down on a fluke injury.

As for the play itself, I think it was a hold, barely, at the end, but one that had no bearing on the play itself. It wasn't holding until about the :30 mark, when Rylan Reed impeded Orakpo's movement in the opposite direction. By that time, unfortunately, Orakpo was injured and out of the play.

The refs were inconsistent the entire game. That play MAY have been holding. Borderline call at best. Reed was engaged and Orakpo turned his back to him. There were two blocks in the back on Shipley's punt return too. If we reviewed the entire game film, I'm sure we could find numerous occasions on which Texas held as well. Texas was lucky to get back in the game. It's too bad for the Longhorns that their secondary couldn't cover a soul or catch the gimme interception. Wreck 'Em.

I agree with the last post . . . UT flat out blew the game. Tech deserves credit. However, Tech got away with an enormous amount of holding in this game. Was it enough to make a difference in the outcome of the game? Who knows. But I will say that no offensive line in the Big 12 Conference played dirtier that that of Texas Tech.
Then again, I suppose it is the O-Line's job to play that way.

I'm a huge UT fan and I'll say first that the holding isnt an excuse, Tech still just flat out beat us, we had our chance and blew it.
But that being said, I do strongly believe that the Tech o-line in that game held more than in any game I have ever seen in my life. Sergio Kindle got taken down by the face mask on one play right by the QB and they still didnt call it, but the refs let it go, so I cant blame the linemen for doing it. The fault is the refs not the players.

If you want to know the true story behind that, Orakpo hurt his knee during the spin move and the Tech O-lineman was trying to hold him up as you can clearly see in the replay. He was trying to stop him from getting hurt. Holding would be taking him down, not holding him up. Orakpo fell on his own and it was sad that he got hurt, but it wasn't holding.
