teamsteven, I understand why you say that. But here's the thing. He's God and not human. So because of that reason, us as humans can't fathom His knowledge and wisdom. So the reason why he doesn't is something us as humans cant comprehend. And so because of that, us as Christians just have faith in Him because of the fact He is God. His word is true and law. He said to have faith and not worry. So with faith, that's what I'll do. For He is my everything.

Certainly, God is love is a hard concept, never fully conceived. If a perfectly good and all-powerful God existed then God would have the power to stop it or the love to want to stop it. But since there's evil in the world, God has not put an end to it, therefore God must not exist. However, if God forced man to act justly freedom of the will would be void and deemed unnecessary. That's entirey incorrect though. Because of God's perfection, He cannot have sin in heaven. And if He were to sit back and do nothing about people going to hell, then yes he would be evil. But He gave us his Son, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. So He's not evil. People just ignore Him and then blame Him for the consequences.

The way I see it, if God makes perfect sense to me (a mortal man) then He couldnt possibly be God (the perfect. omniscient God). one more thing. i cant understand how an atheist can have as much passion for God as a christian. If God doesn't exist, then why is there so much controversy. how can someone that doesn't believe that God exists at all have so much PASSION for spreading their disbelief. Only a living God could explain it. If there was no God, it would be clear that believers are mistaken. But on the contrary, there is a God, and His presence incites atheists to have passion for spreading their disbelief.

The dirt represents sin, we are so sinful, we were born God-haters, we weren't the least bit rightous, we cannot seek for God on our own (Rom. chapter 3). The bible says in Isaiah that our sins are like filthy rags before God. Depravity is moral corruption, a state of corruption or sinfulness. Total depravity is the teaching that sin has touched all aspects of the human: body, soul, spirit, emotions, mind, etc. Hope that helps! :)

What I love about this song is the feeling of renewal it gives. It conveys its message very well. I also find it nice to see an artist use some poetic devices in a song rather than simply telling us how sinful he is and how badly he needs to be forgiven. That play on words, how he later describes how he is wholly but not "holy"...I wish I had that ability to play with words so subtly. =P
