Let it be known that the Romans never made it past the Rhine with out getting slaughter by the Germans...

Cesar made it a point that he didn't want to fight the Germans unless he had to, being that they were twice the size of the roman centurions with blonde braded hair and beards. But its the Roman's greed of land which ultimately aided in their downfall. They shouldn't have messed with the Barbarians to the north.

History shows that the Roman's advantage in battle was simply the right tactics mixed with the right weaponry and superior formations...

A German might kill a few romans, but there was always a roman inline waiting to take his place...

anyways the Germans sacked rome several times after its downfall, but the romans never really conquered Germania.

@emorocks1108 That's actually a common misconception. Contrary to what many historically inaccurate movies depict, the "barbarians" were actually very organized. They didn't have the iron discipline of the Romans or Greeks, but they didn't just charge in naked and screaming and brandishing a huge axe either.

Lol, I tried this out with my friend. We used the greek Phalanx to create a fortress-like circle. At this point rtw sadly is a bit unrealistic.I think In order to balance the gameplay, they have added the phalanx to the germans, but actually they never had something like this.... But it's still awesome :D

@marbleMarV depends on the faction i'd say. i use Roman archers to weaken the enemy troops before i enter a town (maximum first level stone walls). works perfectly well, meaning that my archers are normally the first troops to gain a weapons or experience upgrade, meaning again that saying archers in RTW are not effective is simply wrong....use em right and they shall bring you victory after victory...

You can use anything to beat the dumb AI. I've beaten a fullstack of AI controlled horse archers with only using 6 units of gaul warbands, with no noob box. A noob box would've gotten slaughtered there.

@TheRoopeKonna its a very good strategy if used correctly the box has to be small and tight so that you can move units from place to place quickly also you must leave heavy inf. And heavy cav. Outside the box so that you can hit any tough units from the back and rout them while they fight against the main army i base this on medieval 2 total war i have no knowledge of rome but i still think it applies :)

Hmm. I thought this is called a "half-open noob box", a strategy made by the newbies who use them against AI opponents... against a human that would not work, prolly four spartan units would crack that open and kill them all.

I do not it is newbish use it against AI when it is superior on numbers or cavalries. It would be foolish not to use it.

Oh yeah, you can throw any tactic at the AI and still win. You'd still win with almost no casualties if you'd just advance and use regular tactics to beat your enemy.

Noob box just puts your opponent into the initiative and advantage.

If he's a human, he probably breaks it open like an egg and kills your troops. Wanna try?

Oh yeah, and RTW is not what you call "real life".

That formation, historically, was a starting position, not a position you'd stay in for the whole battle. You'd evolve and advance from that position realistically.

@MastirCheef29 hahah no they made Urban cohorts berserkers, bull warriors all fictional (or in the case of berserkers 600 years later and vikings not germans) and they made rome way imbalanced, there units should be the best, but the most expensive, in a 1vs1 a bull warrior vs urban the urban allways wins even though it cost 400 denarrii less

@JayOneDee actually he used the spear way more often than the axe, the portrayal of the germans using the axe in large numbers is a sort of uneducated public view of ancient german "barbarians" much like the portrayed egyptians in RTW which looked nothing like that in ptolemaic egypt.

i hate normal rtw because AL tactic sucks ass. What matter what difficult you take they suck. they form a single line formation which is horrible. you can only take cavalry on them and *Boom* enemy routs

Rofl someone lucked out that he had Noob Comp.

This wasn't on very hard, and the formation has weaknesses beyond believe (like total lack of missle support).

If that roman would have trown all his javelin in before charging, theirs a good chance he would have smashed trew his first line.

Let alone stand if he brought some archers, he would have been toast.

Also, a very hard comp would try and flank with those war dogs, and it would play havoc on morale.

Die Tatsache, dass dieser Mann setzte seine Krieger in einem guten Reiter Bekämpfung der Bildung ist nicht unfair, es ist einfach gut zu spielen. Gute Schlacht, ich spiele immer die Deutschen. Sie haben gute Qualität für Kosten-Verhältnis. Die Römer sind zu viel Qualität für zu viel kosten. Die Deutschen leicht schlagen die Römer in dieser.
