This is impressive drumming and sounds a bit like something buckethead would do, if he had a space feel to his music. Wouldn't mind seeing derek drum with Buckethead.
i hate it when ppl say all he's good for is blasting and being fast. obviously they havn't seen him play stuff like this cos he can groove like a king
His snare is somewhat the same as Tomas Haakes. Tomas' is a Sonor HLD590 8x14 made in the late 80's early 90's, Derek's snare is a newer production 6x14 snare. This snare weighs about 25 pounds whereas Tomas' weigh around 36.
Probably this song and it's album never released. It is really good though. I listened this song on MDF 2008 and amazed Hi-Hat & Bass combination. No questions about that, he is a drumming god.
Really makes your realize, drumming is like walking, after doing it for so many years, it becomes second nature. Roddy is the shit in any style of drumming
really nice tasteful drumming, not everybody can blast their ass of, and be able to tone it down according to the song, but you can. again, really tasteful.
this his got to be the most suiting, original, skillful drum pattern to a sci fi show at like 1 am in the morning. lol. I Really like the way you never stop trying new stuff. next up, pirate music! lol
These are the kinda drum grooves I like. Hi hat grooves are the best.

My respect for Derek Roddy just rose. I thought he was a speed king with no groove, and now I believe I was wrong.

Is that the sonor artist bronze-black snare?
The same as Tomas Haakes, it sounds great. I wish I could afford one but they are far too expensive for me.
lewisn27 3 years ago
I think it's an S-classix snare.
