@ethanr432 Thanks. Few if anyone understands what I meant by that statement. WIlliamSledd is a gay youtuber that has videos showing off his favorite underwear.
That is a nice thermostat, and I've been around them before, but I have a brand preference to White Rodgers. I have had White Rodgers in my house for 10 years now, and no problems, and the WR 80 series thermostats virtually DO NOT fail according to testing. I've also found that White Rodgers stats tend to be more accurate than Honeywell, especially the Honeywell PRO 3000.
Still though, great, informative video though! Nice work!
These are great especially when using on a HP system with a fossil fuel back up. In my area oil and gas back up is fairly common and oil is still big here although fading from popularity.
Would someone anyone show how the wiring is done correctly before the programs I have a black/gray wire, orange wire, & blue with no lettering for them.
@triniann2757 Low voltage wiring in HVAC generally follows a standard color code with terminal designations. Not all manufacturers stick to it religiously. Check the schematic to be sure. The colors of your stat wire are odd... some other strands might be tucked back inside the wall. Standard colors are (in order, 18/2 thru 18/8): red, white, green, yellow, blue, brown, orange, black. Pulling a new wire isn't too difficult and would be cheaper than buying an IAQ.

It's not "the" Vision 8000. There are more than one kinds. 8110 is is just like most other normal programmable thermostats. NOT compatible with multi-stage systems.
Commercial building models do not have permanent override.
"Vision 8000" is a product line, which contains many different types. It is not THE type of a thermostat.
"...I like this thermostat that much! If some gay guy can tell you about his favorite underwear, I can certainly tell you about my favorite thermostat..." ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doe's this particular thermostat work with radiator - boiler systems? Please tell me yes. These are the same thermostats we use a the office and are simply the best.
Honeywell make great T/stats. So good Carrier even copied them. I miss working on this old school stuff. You should do a video on a VRV inverter system, they're scary to work on, and too dam cleaver for there own good!
I have a White Rogerss 1F81-261 programmable thermostat. The display indoor temperature sensor keeps going down to 35 (F) when it is on cool mode which causes the out door condenser unit not to kick in at a set temp at 79 (F). My unit is straight cool. I believe the temp sensor on the thermostat is defective. Any idea what causes it to do that?
@Mriluigi Thanks for the reply, you were right. I got one today and instill it. I got a White Rogers Non- Programmable this time. Everything works great. Thanks again!
@rbu2m There are times when bad thermostats will get by the quality control people at the factory. You might want to take it back to the store if it's still under warranty. If it's no longer under warranty...what can I say. Nothing lasts forever.
@DrZarkloff Thanks Dr.Z, I had to get a new thermostat and it's up and running. I didn't get the programmable this time. Great video on the Honeywell as well.
Thanks for the post however, that stat is way too complicated for most folks. My older customer's especially have a hard time with it, even in the mode that disables a lot of the features. The owners manual is over 30 pages, and if I'm not mistaken, Honeywell has a more technical manual online that is twice as many pages.
Not knocking you Z, your the best for sharing your knowledge.
come on coach! you gotta admit that the White Rodgers Big Blue 3/2 Universal is a much more user friendly stat?! lol especially with the installer settings etc. Stay blessed. Oh and we need a vid on the sequence of ops for both a heat pump and a hi efficiency furnace.
I just picked up the RTH7600D from Lowes to replace my Aprilaire 8363. I ran it for a week, and it constantly cycled my system about 5-6 times an hour to keep the set temperature, which I thought was normal. However I knew this was taxing on the system and, I ended up disabling the 'Smart Comfort' feature, and then properly enabling the 'Gas Furnace Eff >90%'. It seems to cycling when the1 degree differential is approached now. Not sure I'm keeping this model.
Just a follow-up on the RTH7600D. Its going back. This thermostat is bent on proactively heat-cycling 3 times an hour to maintain that 1 degree differental. The temperature differental is not adjustable either, unlike my Aprilaire 8363 which can be adjust for 1, 2, or 3 degree. So for now, I'd rather a call-for-heat occur when the temperature differential is exceeded, rather than running the heat off some predetermined and unadjustable heat cycling program.
That is why I like Carrier T-stats. They allow you to set the number of cycles an hour. The default is 6 I believe, but I always set my cycles to 4 an hour. Some other stats may let you configure this as well. You usually have to press and hold 2 buttons down to get into the default setting menu.
hi doctor, i have a question. i want to replace my original honeywell digital thermostat with one that has a programmable setting. i picked up a lux digital programmable 5-2 setting for 29.00 the reviews for this one were all positive. my question is :
when removing the old one, i have 2 wires. one is connected into the W and the other is R but on the diagram it says RH and has a jumper into another R box. what to do? ps, nice video. if it dont work out, i will return this lux and get the 8000
Hello. The W wire energises the first stage of heat. The R wire goes to 24 volts. RH is used in case your furnace has a separate control transformer. In your case, R and RH are jumped so you only have one control transformer.
I have the same thermostat except for it has a Lennox Badge on it. They probably paid Honeywell to stamp their name on it. Oh it even has a an outside sensor. I agree it is a great thermostat to stock up and use.
Hey Doc...great video. Can you explain how the 8000 determines when to call the 2nd stage? I understand it is not based on a simple temperature differential but takes into account rate of change. Comments?
I have this Thermostat and I really like it, but I have one question, when we I had a new heat pump installed, and when they were testing the heat, I noticed a red light up in the upper right hand corner, and I was wonder what dose that mean
When the fan in set to the ON position, the indoor blower runs continuously. When it's set to the AUTO position, the indoor blower will cycle with a call for heat and cool. When it's set to the CIRC position, the indoor blower will cycle as it does in the AUTO position, but the indoor blower will energize periodically even without a call for heat or cool.
Dr Z you forgot to mention the price. our cost, hundred an change. customers price over 300.00. bottom line just mention it will pay for itself well before the seasons over.
Just wondering makes this better than the climatouch C3? Check my videos I did one a while back on it which I was using it in a apartment. I like the wireless outdoor sensor which I use now. I wish I would have gotten the one with the humidity control though like this one.
i have a question, do you know why my a/c says-( required indoors for rated performance) my cousins a/c also says the same, and also my furnace and a/c name is Standard, is standard part of trane? because my cousins a/c looks the same as mine and its a trane
I could not agree more, the vision pro is by far the best thermostat on the market. I have installed them on all types of systems from heat pumps to hot water boiler systems. It can be adapted to work on almost any system.
hello, first off...your videos are very usefull and informative, keep them coming. ok, now im pretty new to hvac and was wondering how you would know when your txv metering device is bad? for a residential split system, non-heatpump. What should i look for and what problems occur when the txv goes bad? Hope to hear from you...take care.
You are right, there are tons of thermostats out there and for consumers it is a hard choice. Props on your tutorial! By the way, our technicians are trained on how to work with these, as well.
Im the gay guy who can tell you about underwear.. (i work for calvin klein).. Ive had a vision pro 8000 for the past 2 years.. I love it and it was very easy to install myself.. I know the system.. Trane XR 13 with electric heat.. not a heatpump... I live Ft. Myers florida.. Its a nice and easy to use thermostat and as long as people know there system.. its easy to install..
While I am up north, I don't want to run the a/c unless the humidity in the house is high, so I simply installed a non-digital humidistat that cuts the 24 volts to the thermostat when the humidity is low. If the humidity is high, the thermostat is set at 80 degrees and will run to lower the humidity. I really don't care if the temperature goes to 100 if the humidity is low. My electric for the 3 ton packaged unit is less than $20 per month.
Thanks. I live in High Springs. It's just outside of Gainesville. You have the right idea about how to run your a/c when you're not there. I used to be a maintenance man at a high rise condominium on Fort Myers Beach. That's exactly the way I used to tell the owners how to setup their thermostat for the Summer months when they weren't there.
Thank you. I was told to make/break the wire to the AC and not the 24v feed to the thermostat.but it works fine. The humidistat is line voltage rated so it cuts power to the 24v transformer. A little green here and there helps the environment. I don't know if there is a chance of a surge of the 24 volts but it has worked for five years. Thanks for "giving back" to the community.
You got some great instructional vids here. Thank you for taking the time to make them and put them up. My furnace just stopped working and I'm trying to fix it,... or brake it worse,.... before I call a guy like you,... ha, ha
I think this guy is right, I love this Honeywell 8000 Thermostat. Although this thermostat will cost you about $50 more than a Honeywell 5000 or 6000. Althought the 5000 is non programmable and the 6000 is the programmable, they are not touch screen. I like the Honeywell 5000 equally as well at a savings of $50.
@DrZarkloff im an a/c tech of 10 years and the vision pro iaq is by far better then the 8000 and it will control the speed of the blower on verilbe and your cc 750 were others do not
I have a Honywell Focus Pro 6000, and it works great. The thermostat is located in the hall, which works well when the kids visit, but I'd like to be able to selectively regulate from our remodelled rooms when they are not here. Is there a dual control thermostat you recommend? Wireless?
hey.. say i have a closet i want to keep a constant temperature.. and i was using a heat bulb to heat with.. what piece of equipment would i be looking for that i can plug the lamp into that will shut it off when it gets to hot, or turn it on when it gets to cold?.is a thermostat what im looking for?
You can use a line voltage thermostat. Go to Johnstone Supply or Baker Distributing or any other HVAC supply store and ask someone at the counter to help you get the right one.
And actually come to think about it. I think the Venstar T2900 is a little easier stat to configure in the back-end as well. So, maybe the 8000 sits third on the list for me. Tough call though. The 8000 definitely has the coolness factor over the Venstar being touch screen and all.
I like the Honeywell VisionPro 8000. However, I think it takes second place to the Carrier Edge thermostats.
The 8000 is easy to use once all of it's advanced configurations are set up. However, if you are the Joe Do-it-yourselfer it's not as user friendly and can be frustrating (unless you are familiar enough with what kind of system you have). Don't get me wrong I love the 8000's but I think it takes a back seat to the Edge. The Edge is truly plug-and-play without any need for advanced config
That is all..3 wires and it is up and running(Honeywell 8000 vision). I am thinking about changing out my carrier programmable on the wall. My wife finds it difficult to operate. Once she waited for me to get off work to adjust it. The house was cold when I got there, she couldn't adjust the heat. Does it have reminders for filter change and temps outside?
It's a great thermostat. Honeywell is coming out with a wireless version of the FocusPro soon. Also, They're coming out with a new model called Prestige. It's in HD color and real easy to program.

i love when homeowners ask me for the old school t stats, but honeywell makes a nice digital old school t stat i usually offer that, just a heads up on that one
Honeywell's Focus Pro 6000 Series is pretty good, too. It has the same adaptive intelligence recovery technology. No more guessing how long it takes bring your home from the 'set-back' temperature to the 'comfort' temperature. Honeywell has taught the thermostat to do it for you.
I can't bring myself to toss my old Chronotherm III (T8601D) into the trash. The keypad has failed (will not accept commands), but it still maintains my comfort levels. The programming is bullet-proof.
@DrZarkloff The T8601 failed for good a few weeks ago. The programming wasn't as bulletproof as I thought. I have a TH8110 to replace it... but I went with the TH6110!
Aren'y we suppose to contain the mercury in that kind of T'stats? We usually take the mercury bulb and put it in a seperate container for proper disposal. Hope you already did that before smashing it.
Doc, you left out one great feature "armchair programming". The stat doesn't have to be hooked up to the sub-base for programming which makes it that much better!
I love the TH8110 and TH8320 thermostats. Very easy to set up and program. I always make a point of 'ordering' the homeowner to sit down in a comfortable chair while I walk them through every step of the process. I let them press all of the proper buttons, while I instruct them.
This reduces the number of call-backs for programming questions. Many problems can be fixed over the phone, when the user is already familiar with using the installer's menu.
as a tech myself, i agree with you about the 8000. it is by far the easiest stat i have ever dealt with besides the mercury ones! thats the only stat i recommend
all we realy need is 20°C sriaght up no need for over heating on 30°C or over cooling on 18°C onces u have had a hot day on 30°C and steping into ur home on 20°C u well a lot cooler! and is u had a cold day on -15°C steping into 20°C NOT 30°C it will feel a lot wormer any!
Thanks. Yes, all Vision Pro 8000s are the same. However, they do sell a Vision Pro 8000 Commercial. If you're a homeowner, you're better off with the non commercial one.
so how do i change the batteries on my thermostat, i tried to open it with a knife from those 2 little slits on the side but i didn't want to wreck it, please help, we're freezing .
If you have the VisionPro 8000, just grab a hold of it and pull it away from the base plate. Then you should be able to replace the triple A batteries. No tools are necessary.
I have one of those stats and they are TOP SHELF! I wouldn't use anything but!! The nice thing about it is its easy to program and use, and when my P.O.S Bryant furnace gets the boot, and a nice Trane hi-eff 2-stage heat goes in this stat will work nicely with it! Works well with my "poor man's 2-stage cooling" in summer too
Thanks for the comment. I usually have to replace the old mercury stats with the VisionPro 8000, so I go out of my way to bring in the common wire. I really don't like having to go back a year later only to replace the batteries. The built in memory battery is supposed to be good for about ten years. I work for the school board, so I lock the stat so that the settings can't be changed by a non technician.
its true and i agree.honeywell controls are the best control ive ever seen and encounter, they were trusted for many many decades of years,92% of our controls in our central plant are honeywells,8% is waste control.
I am a proud owner of the Vision IAQ t-stat, Was a owner of the VisionPro TH8320, upgraded to the IAQ line last fall, and they are by far the best. My mom can even program theirs! where n the past, always on HOLD cuz they couldn't program them in the past.

Just wondering makes this better than the climatouch C3? Check my videos I did one a while back on it which I was using it in a apartment. I like the wireless outdoor sensor which I use now. I wish I would have gotten the one with the humidity control though like this one.

i have a question, do you know why my a/c says-( required indoors for rated performance) my cousins a/c also says the same, and also my furnace and a/c name is Standard, is standard part of trane? because my cousins a/c looks the same as mine and its a trane
thecarexpert18 2 years ago
Do you mean: American Standard? Yes, Trane and American Standard are one in the same.
DrZarkloff 2 years ago
all it says is standard
thecarexpert18 2 years ago
I tried to google "Standard" and came up with nothing about air conditioners. You might want to ask a Trane dealer.

I could not agree more, the vision pro is by far the best thermostat on the market. I have installed them on all types of systems from heat pumps to hot water boiler systems. It can be adapted to work on almost any system.

ok..thank alot on the feed back about the txv question...much appreciated!!
handyman0325 2 years ago
hello, first off...your videos are very usefull and informative, keep them coming. ok, now im pretty new to hvac and was wondering how you would know when your txv metering device is bad? for a residential split system, non-heatpump. What should i look for and what problems occur when the txv goes bad? Hope to hear from you...take care.
handyman0325 2 years ago
You could get normal high side pressures and very low suction side pressures.

Thanks for this video, Dr. Z.

You are right, there are tons of thermostats out there and for consumers it is a hard choice. Props on your tutorial! By the way, our technicians are trained on how to work with these, as well.

Thanks for watching. I have found that the Vision Pro 8000 is the mostest for the leastest.
DrZarkloff 2 years ago
Im the gay guy who can tell you about underwear.. (i work for calvin klein).. Ive had a vision pro 8000 for the past 2 years.. I love it and it was very easy to install myself.. I know the system.. Trane XR 13 with electric heat.. not a heatpump... I live Ft. Myers florida.. Its a nice and easy to use thermostat and as long as people know there system.. its easy to install..
sxyaeprep 2 years ago
I lived in Ft. Myers for 17 years. I've been living in the Gainesville area now for three years. It's really much quieter up here.
Yeah, the vision pro 8000 is a great thermostat. Although, I've recently fallen in love with the Honeywell Prestige. It just can't be beat.

Continued:
While I am up north, I don't want to run the a/c unless the humidity in the house is high, so I simply installed a non-digital humidistat that cuts the 24 volts to the thermostat when the humidity is low. If the humidity is high, the thermostat is set at 80 degrees and will run to lower the humidity. I really don't care if the temperature goes to 100 if the humidity is low. My electric for the 3 ton packaged unit is less than $20 per month.
comobuff 2 years ago
DrZarkloff 2 years ago

Dr. Zarkloff,
You are the best. Where are you located?
I am a Tampa snowbird and would like your opinion on my "Thermostat/Humidistat hookup.
I am retired and don't need fancy multistage/multievent settings, so I have a simple thermostat similar to the ones you throw away.

ferratilis 3 years ago
The 8000 is a great t-stat; the Honeywell Prestige is even better.
DrZarkloff 3 years ago
I think this guy is right, I love this Honeywell 8000 Thermostat. Although this thermostat will cost you about $50 more than a Honeywell 5000 or 6000. Althought the 5000 is non programmable and the 6000 is the programmable, they are not touch screen. I like the Honeywell 5000 equally as well at a savings of $50.
work5045 3 years ago
I usually use the Honeywell 5000 whenever I don't need a programmable tstat. It's a great non programmable.
DrZarkloff 3 years ago
@DrZarkloff im an a/c tech of 10 years and the vision pro iaq is by far better then the 8000 and it will control the speed of the blower on verilbe and your cc 750 were others do not

I have a Honywell Focus Pro 6000, and it works great. The thermostat is located in the hall, which works well when the kids visit, but I'd like to be able to selectively regulate from our remodelled rooms when they are not here. Is there a dual control thermostat you recommend? Wireless?

hey.. say i have a closet i want to keep a constant temperature.. and i was using a heat bulb to heat with.. what piece of equipment would i be looking for that i can plug the lamp into that will shut it off when it gets to hot, or turn it on when it gets to cold?.is a thermostat what im looking for?
ismokegreentrees 3 years ago
You can use a line voltage thermostat. Go to Johnstone Supply or Baker Distributing or any other HVAC supply store and ask someone at the counter to help you get the right one.
DrZarkloff 3 years ago
With the Honeywell Touchscreen you can also "programme" the fan to do different things during different periods. (ie: 'circ', 'on' or 'auto')
skarpes 3 years ago
And actually come to think about it. I think the Venstar T2900 is a little easier stat to configure in the back-end as well. So, maybe the 8000 sits third on the list for me. Tough call though. The 8000 definitely has the coolness factor over the Venstar being touch screen and all.
parallelworlds 3 years ago

I think I will give this Honeywell model a shot.

It's a great thermostat. Honeywell is coming out with a wireless version of the FocusPro soon. Also, They're coming out with a new model called Prestige. It's in HD color and real easy to program.

PutSome5tankOnIt 3 years ago
I have the Focus Pro 6000 at my home. It's a pretty reliable t-stat.
DrZarkloff 3 years ago
@DrZarkloff The T8601 failed for good a few weeks ago. The programming wasn't as bulletproof as I thought. I have a TH8110 to replace it... but I went with the TH6110!
PutSome5tankOnIt 1 year ago
@PutSome5tankOnIt Darn. Sooner or later, you want to upgrade.
DrZarkloff 1 year ago
Aren'y we suppose to contain the mercury in that kind of T'stats? We usually take the mercury bulb and put it in a seperate container for proper disposal. Hope you already did that before smashing it.
neilblackdog 3 years ago
Don't worry. I always dispose of my mercury t-stats properly.
DrZarkloff 3 years ago
Doc, you left out one great feature "armchair programming". The stat doesn't have to be hooked up to the sub-base for programming which makes it that much better!
magictouchair 3 years ago
It is handy
DrZarkloff 3 years ago
I love the TH8110 and TH8320 thermostats. Very easy to set up and program. I always make a point of 'ordering' the homeowner to sit down in a comfortable chair while I walk them through every step of the process. I let them press all of the proper buttons, while I instruct them.
This reduces the number of call-backs for programming questions. Many problems can be fixed over the phone, when the user is already familiar with using the installer's menu.

Works well with my "poor man's 2-stage cooling" in summer too
REWYRED 4 years ago
I agree 100%.
DrZarkloff 4 years ago
Cool! Thank you from Florida.
DrZarkloff 4 years ago
Thanks for the comment. I usually have to replace the old mercury stats with the VisionPro 8000, so I go out of my way to bring in the common wire. I really don't like having to go back a year later only to replace the batteries. The built in memory battery is supposed to be good for about ten years. I work for the school board, so I lock the stat so that the settings can't be changed by a non technician.
