lollobrigida, sorry to say, was a real bitch! she wa a friend of my grandfathers, and would call him from italy, when he was in his 90's. that was nice, but , she felt everyone was beneath her. very snobby. not at all like sophia loren, or anna magnani.
@ipmoic i think she leaned into him, and he had no where to go. there just was no space. let's get off the intimidation b.s. this dude is a better actor than given credit. he acts like a dork, because that is his' schtick, and it has made him rich.
Watch the clips from Cavett's show here on u-tube, or better yet, get the full interviews on DVD, and then explain to me why we have devolved into Jay Leno, David Lettermen, Conan O'Brien, etc, where the host IS the show (or thinks he is), and all guests do is plug their recent projects for three minutes, and then off they go. Where's the intelligence of a Dick Cavett Show these days?
Ms. Lollobrigida looks lovely, as she always does. I always found Ruth Gordon to be somewhat of a bore, so this addition to the show added some spice at the last minute.
@nerdflanders8710 In another clip from same show she says she has been acting since 1915 and is celebrating 54 yrs. in show business making this 1969.
When Woody Allen asked "how are we going to split this up. Who gets who?" He probably didn't care who he got. I'm sure Gina had a pretty daughter or grandaughter and Ruth probably has a pretty Grandaughter or Great grandaughter that he could seduce. What a stupid butt. No wonder he defended Roman Polanski. He's his own kind.
@arlichar11 She was definitely not a nobody. Maybe you aren't that familiar with celebrities before 1970. After she finished her film career she had a fair amount of success as a photographer as well.
dick cavett reminds me of alan partridge.everything always seemed to fall apart on his show, his guests would always do something that would shock him.he was also boring like alan partridge, one of the reasons carson kickedd his ass.put his show on today and it would still be better than the lame ass shows that are on now.
I've been youtubing through DC's interviews and have enjoyed the way he allowed the stars to talk, he had the biggest names Brando etc of their time on his show, I like him
There are some people who, for the life of me, I can't understand how they got in front of a camera. Allen and Cavett are two of them. Now, behind the camera, I can understand. Gordon, I believe, was hot stuff at that time, enjoying a big comeback in "Harold & Maude."
Empressoffrance you took the words right out of my mouth!! am glad am not alone thinking this!! he is not funny, he is ugly, he is amoral, talentless, - and these are his best bits!
Cavett took risks. He was hit or miss with guests but seldom at a loss for words. People felt comfortable on his show. Unfortunately, he never had the broad appeal of a Johnny Carson. He had no schtick, although he had been a great comedy writer.
@ipmoic yes, cavett could never have had the broad appeal of a carson, given his intellect. a lot of his comedic quips, would go flying over peoples heads today..........i agree with you. i don't see another dick cavett, coming down the pike soon or ever.
WA shd be glad anyone wants to be around him.I never found him funny or amusing. He just likes to be around children. Whatever Mia Farrow saw in this disgusting, little dwarf is beyond me. She is a good person and good mother + actress. She must have been at a low point in her life to have hooked up with this degenerate.
@eutuve Right on. I cannot understand what the hell Mia saw in that disgusting little dwarf. He and Roman should be sharing the same cell. Have a good day.
What a dish Gina is here! And still is. A very entertaining clip from the Cavett show. It makes you wish that more of today's talk shows were as good. Cavett was so fortunate to be active at a time when so many Hollywood legends were still around. Groucho, Jack Benny, Robert Mitchum, John Huston, Elsa Lanchester, the list goes on. Cavett was one lucky guy to be able to meet and interview such people. There aren't any celebrities today who are as much fun as these guests were. Hooray for YouTube!

Strange how Woody leans BACK when Gina leans towards him.
Many hateful comments about Allen here--a great artist who has major character flaws. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
I think the bottom line is: Allen was naturally shy and intimidated by such a lusty presence as Lollobrigida.

Was/is Dick Cavett the undisputed King of American Talkshows ? We had Terry Wogan and Michael Parkinson in England but this guy sounds even better !!

@johnnycheck99 Dick Cavett beat Wognan & Parkinson by far, although Wogan was the better one out of the two

Woody Allen. He only wants to be with the "in" people. When Gina leans into him, he's leaning as far away as he can.
Woody is, if nothing else, transparent.
