I personally like a thinker sound, but that was nice. Good sound for the ideas he was doing. for the people calling 'gay' and airway, listen to his bebop scales, NO Air. he is making that sound on purpose. True artist
wow... very good. Play Trumpet Trompete its kind like different Flügelhorn, but not so much. I can play both.... believe me. But this player is awesome
The sound is closer to a French horn. He plays well but as someone stated the sound is too airy. I like the sound Freddie Hubbard got on his Getzen flugelhorn. Freddie got great flugel sound and all the flexibility a Jazz player wants.
good playing but get rid of that sound...way to breathy!!! It's accented even more b/c you tounge too much for that amount of breathiness...starting teh notes with air might make it better, but change one thing or the other and I would totally dig it.
I would think he was too...it was just a little too much for my taste. The improv is great, don't get me wrong, just a little more core to the sound would have been nice for me.
Oh yeah, I hear what you were referring to, I didn't catch it when I first saw the clip... Yeah, prolly a tad too breathy. A bit more core fluegel sound would complement the breathy aspect better.
I'm still gonna practice this style a bit, make some of it a part of MY style...
I think the airy sound is great. It's part of what makes Julian Wasserfuhr standout from the crowd. He won his portion of the trumpet contest so obviously the judges liked him as well. You can find his album "Remembering Chet" on Napster if you don't mind listening on your computer or ipod.
Superb playing! Amazing Sound! I got a Cd from him. Bravo!

sounds gay, shouldnt be that airy, its supposed to be a beautiful sounding instrument, not sounding like a saxofone

Was thinking just the same thing indeed. Don't know why you'd call it "gay" though :P
