REBECCA 1997 - Shipwreck

Just finished watching this version of Rebecca and I didn't really like it. So far the best and most accurate adaptation has to be the 1979 miniseries. The actress who plays the girl is just too beautiful & outgoing. I didn't really like how Maxim de Winter was portrayed here. Isn't he supposed to be charming and attractive? Maxim is supposed to be 42, this actor looked a lot older. Mrs. Van Hopper was another miscast. The several altercations made in this version also did not do it any favors.

@MyLittleCubbie Too beautiful? She seemed just spot on to me. Funny thing is, she's actually the daughter of the lady who played the same role in the 1979 version!

I just read the book a couple of months ago. Its short; you can read it in a day or two. It is really good. Had never read any DdM before. It is written so you completely identify with the new young wife (who's name is never mentioned in the novel), and you see everything unfolding through her eyes. While reading I was thinking what an incredible movie it would make. I guess others have realized that before me!
