Do you know where I can see this whole film? I've searched the web for a torrent/STREAM, nope. Searched stores for a DVD/VIDEO, nope. All I find are these small clips here and there.
@tzDub92 indeed. then again, who wouldnt do it for that much money. all i think is that hes not that special, hes just a foreigner whos good at japanese.
Great Piece about Gaijin Talent in Japan ! They are much better off than in the USA because they seem to be in the catbird seat for life and have very little competition.Dave Spector was very candid and honest as well.
Wow! Get the Aquanet and pop your collars, the 80s are back! Looking at Tokyo nowadays, you'll have to do a bit more to stand out than just be an American. This documentary is so dated, I nearly fell off my seat laughing with the reference to "Family Ties".
@tompkova So, let me get this straight. It's okay to be a funny American on American television, but it's "bullshit stereotypes" and "selling out" if you're a funny American in another country?
Gilbert, Derricott, and Spector are professional Ugly Americans who have done everything possible to destroy any possible positive images that America has to offer. They are despised by both Americans and Japanese alike.
Spector likes to portray his detractors as being mostly ignorant gaijin, however the truth is that he is largely despised by Japanese as even they see him as a sycophant.
He's also published a book in '84, "It's Only a Joke", that purports to 'explain' American humor: "Why don't black mothers let children play in sandboxes? Because they don't want them to be covered with sand by cats." "What do you do with the dead body of a black? Flay his skin and make a wetsuit."
I used to work at Kent Gilberts eikawa back in the day. I had a great time there, does anyone know what happened to him and the school? Are any former teachers from that school reading this? I worked at the Sunshine building and Kichijoji.
dave is very famous here in japan thou, few japanese know that he changed his hair such like a heavy metal group member and wore blue contact lenses. what the left man and the center girl said(03:10) seemed not to be what they really thought. it seemed something like the japanese producer's angle. anyway, this video was very interesting. thank you for uploading this.
