Its a shame they dont include The Riddler in the next movie. I picture him as being the head of an important corporation of Gotham City, but dealing with an obsessive need to outsmart everyone and using death traps on people who may be a menace to his empire (corporate adversaries o inept employees). At the end I would like to see him being outsmarted by someone who he underestimated. Not the Batman, but Harley Quinn and his apparent bimbo-like personality.

Jim Carrey, the 60s show etc. But in the comics and cartoons, he has a more arrogant and sadistic side, and less manical laughter. Tommy Lee Jones was acting like the Joker in Batman Forever, but Nolan portrayed a "true" Two-Face in TDK. He will do the same with the Riddler.

the first 2 min didnt really get me sucked in, given that most trailers are 2 min at max, (Avatar almost had a 3 min one) 4 min of talking gets a bit slow.

The thing about portraying the Riddler as a Jigsaw-a-like is that traditionally in the comics he wasn't seen as a brutal, sadistic murderer so much as a cunning trickster seeking a challenge. Turning him into some kind of twisted monster might take away the intellectual image that's so integral to his character.
That's an excellent point. However, I very much want the intellectual aspect of his character to be emphasized. He has used traps since his first issue and the only way they can escape them is by answering the riddle correctly. I don't think this takes away from his intellect, it just raises the stakes. The Riddler justifies these death traps by saying "if Gotham's citizens were smarter, they would just have fun with my games". Killing "dumb" people is doing the city a favour to the Riddler.

When I think of the riddler in a real life incarnation I think of zodiac killer and jigsaw from saw and you have the riddler with some green touch. Chris Nolan needs to realize this if to re invent the character.

The saw clip was there to introduce the "deadly" puzzle traps, which the Riddler is known for using in the comics. The difference between the Riddler and Jigsaw, is that Jigsaw using them to make a person appreciate life. Riddler uses them to test their intellect, if they are smart enough they deserve to live, stupid people deserve to die.

It is actually part of the ENTIRE point of the trailer - which is to show one way the Riddler can be portrayed in the films. I used Se7en and Saw to demonstrate him as a genius who uses riddles and puzzle traps on his victims.

The thing about portraying the Riddler as a Jigsaw-a-like is that traditionally in the comics he wasn't seen as a brutal, sadistic murderer so much as a cunning trickster seeking a challenge. Turning him into some kind of twisted monster might take away the intellectual image that's so integral to his character.

That's an excellent point. However, I very much want the intellectual aspect of his character to be emphasized. He has used traps since his first issue and the only way they can escape them is by answering the riddle correctly. I don't think this takes away from his intellect, it just raises the stakes. The Riddler justifies these death traps by saying "if Gotham's citizens were smarter, they would just have fun with my games". Killing "dumb" people is doing the city a favour to the Riddler.

@DanEile They could base him on the Zodiac. Jigsaw or John Doe is more like the Riddler of the Nolen universe. Since he likes the brutal side of villans. The thing is that Joker (Ledger)seemed to be more about puzzles so its going to be interesting.

And "no offence" but Johnny Depp is the most obvious and boring choice for the Riddler, we all know exactly how he would play it. When I think of the riddler in a real life incarnation I think of zodiac killer and jigsaw from saw and you have the riddler with some green touch. Chris Nolan needs to realize this if to re invent the character.

If the Riddler is in the next installment he should be like how he is in the comic which is nothing like the joker. He is a narcissist with a predilection for riddles.
Unfortunately people have never seen an actuate live action portrayal of the Riddler.
Depp would be good if he'd let go of the 60's interpretation and brought the some of the cues from Public Enemy to the role.

I think if there was a Riddler in this dark world of Batman series, the personality would be too much like the Joker unless it was Jim Carrey but that would never happen as he's already played him in another series of Batman films.

The saw clip was there to introduce the "deadly" puzzle traps, which the Riddler is known for using in the comics. The difference between the Riddler and Jigsaw, is that Jigsaw using them to make a person appreciate life. Riddler uses them to test their intellect, if they are smart enough they deserve to live, stupid people deserve to die.

It is actually part of the ENTIRE point of the trailer - which is to show one way the Riddler can be portrayed in the films. I used Se7en and Saw to demonstrate him as a genius who uses riddles and puzzle traps on his victims.
