Wow!...the memories...I had the priviledge to train with Eric for about 5 years...that form in the first minute is called "Tang-Nan" or ocean form. You are absolutely right in that he is an excellent martial artist. He loves to teach and he loves to learn.
Oh and btw to all you idiots talking shit... Once again, yeah it's a demo. I bet you guys talking shit just watch martial arts movies and have no idea what he did in his career. I'll invite you down if you'd like and i'll put on a demo using your ass as a dummy! He didn't just teach katas, he taught many styles of martial arts, and made it usable on the street. It's mixed marial arts, I doubt you have the balls to get in the ring anyway.
I trained under him for about ten years, no longer teaching. But very well rounded martial artist and great teacher. These are demos btw, so a real fight would be much worse. I'll post a demo from last year by this weekend.
oops sorry, i've been super busy. I work for him now but i'll get the demo up this weekend for sure. Taking it tonight to have a friend of mine get it off tape and on computer.
ive met Eric a couple of times the school he said he used to have is now run by someone else, n he told me they teach muay thai there, can anyone give me more information?
Uhh well... I can give you Eric Mattingly's number if you'd like... or talk to jdbernal3 hahaha.. he seems confident in his knowledge.. he could hook u up.
Got #3 to work on IE. Won't load on Firefox. It's cool seeing this stuff from Eric. Now he teaches mostly an MMA style but throws in san soo techniques (joint lock, throw, stick and knife). He's like an encyclopedia.
ohh yeah... firefox is weird with youtube videos... but yeah he's really good and EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE... I went to a seminar with him last saturday.. omg, I learned some AWESOME techniques, I acutally used one of'em yesterday. -lol- I was like, wait n o the arm goes there, NOW TRIANGLE LOCK!!! and baddow, i felt bad though, he said he couldnt breathe, n i got tighter n tighter cuz he wasnt doing much... hahaha poor guy but we're good friends.
Hahah no, I trained under Cathy Consolino. And she trained under him, and he trained under master ron van browning (sp?) and he trained under master jimmy wu.
Van Browning...correct. Cool, Cathy was his first black belt, wasn't she? I've heard her name. I trained under Eric for about 6 years. I can't get Best of Eric 3 to play.
I am a former student of Mr. Mattingly. Initially his base martial art was from a traditional background but as mma has evolved so did he. For the past 10-15 years he's trained Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai and taught a mixed martial art system. He was actively competing in grappling tournaments earlier until he developed back problems.
haahhahah everyone says that.... all he does is basically KATAS.... demos are nothing but flash... don't you understand that?!!? Just because they can put on a god demonstration doesn't mean they don't know how to use the same or similar techniques.
It'd be nice to see him in a real life situation, since I've only seen demos from him, he seems like someone who just wants to work in movies y'know, got any tourney footage with him in ?..
The fight demonstration was a total piece of crap, but I like the staff demo. I understand that its for show but show some realism. From one martial artist to another, I like what he is doing but that demo was just for show. No one is going to understand how this will apply in real life-real time situaions. Unless he is trying to attract a younger audience with the crispness of the moves, the audience isnt going to see it for anything more than just fancy cool moves.
well every demonstration is a show... n yes the fight was choreographed... but any martial artist will do almost as well as that in a real fight... just takes lots of practice.
true but... it's training.... u train THOSE TECHNIQUES, do be able to do them in a real situation... I mean, why the fuck else do we do them u kno? Thats what martial arts is for.
Awesome. And I had to mention, the music seems very similar to a Street Puzzle fighter theme XD I've been playing it non-stop XD

What would his response be if they attacked with anything
other than "right" handed punches, and "right" footed kicks.
drop the "moo" mentality.
you will go much farther.
fuck the moo.

Multiple (resisting)opponents? A Choreographed fight is not a real fight or even close to how a real fight happens.
