  • Some good information but unlike the TRAM Flap, which directly harvests the abdominal muscle, DIEP Flap surgery leaves the abdominal architecture fully intact.

  • i had a total mastectomy ten years ago and a tran flap reconstruction nine years ago no problems since.

  • is there different types of mastectomy?im in my 50"s and dont really care about having boobs,i just want to look right in close.mine is in 2 weeks. thank you. emailtjox47@yahoo.com

  • e_e how is the nipple secured? is there any chance that it will fall off later on?!

  • @daremesexy1

I heard that it is tatooed, surely secured, don't worry be happy.

  • @daremesexy1 I dunno how your comment is funny but it just somehow is when I read it it made me laugh out loud

  • Worse comes to worst to go for a reconstruction is really a woman's choice of medical and not a cosmetic surgery for boosting her body image and self esteem. Last but not least, whether breast reconstruction after a mastectomy will affect a woman's tummy muscle or severe side effect in the future is an important decision to consider.

I would appreciate if someone can solve my above question here, thank you.

  • I had this surgery done 4 years ago... the tummy tuck was the best... I guess having 2 boobs again was nice, I went with a 2 year wait for the surgery. Instead of getting the nipple I have a tatoo of a green eye of envy. Any other survivor out there have any tat's where the nipple should be?

  • wow.... bless all of us women. this is good info i advise all women to look at this for choices

  • Breast cancer rates are highest in countries with the highest induced abortion rates. Breast cancer was infrequent before Roe vs Wade legalized abortion nationwide. Currently, there are about 1.2 million abortions in the U.S per year. By age 45, 42% of American women have had an abortion. Since Roe vs Wade in 1973, breast cancer rates in the U.S. have increased about 40%. Induced abortion cause biological changes to occur in breasts which make women more susceptible to breast cancer.

  • There is research linking abortion to breast cancer. For more info, type this into your Google search engine:

    1) Coalition on abortion breast cancer

    2) Abortion breast cancer

These two above will lead you to websites that discuss in detail the link between having an abortion & the abortion increasing the risk of breast cancer. It seems The National Cancer Institute & American Cancer Society try to discredit the research as the abortion industry is a powerful $500-$800 million a yr business.

  • I'm almost done with my chemo and will begin my reconstruction as soon as the chemo effects go away. This info was so helpful...Thank you!

  • can you breastfeed after this?

  • I don't think so

  • 3 months on, and its still tough...the tissue expanders are uncomfortable, (the doctors will keep pumping you up as large as you want, however, I said No, after a size C - after being an A cup....you really have to keep positive, and remember that the final outcome will be ok..however, I get my implants in Jan, so I will post on how it is...I miss my lady lumps, and sex has changed through this....implants don't replace what you have lost in the raw...only through clothes do you fool people!!

  • I just had a masectomy and reconstuctive surgery done same time using the lastissmus dosal 10 days ago so this was really helpful. thank you

  • @boopodge Gosh, I wish you all the best!

Hope you remain cancer free forever and your reconstruction looks fabulous! :)

  • While hungry and sleep-deprived, I watched a series of these informative videos and I almost passed out!

It was a tough combination really!

I always wonder how people become doctors to perform such operations. Hats off to all doctors without whom God knows what disasters would've happened every single day.

  • I found this really helpful after just having a double mastectomy myself. I was too thin to use tissue from my body, and have to have implants instead. This information is extremely helpful to those of us, who are faced with breast cancer at such a young age, and want to remain as normal as possible. The fear of the surgery is worse than the surgery itself. So this is helpful in relieving the fear, and knowing that there are options in how to replace our breasts to feel like a woman again.

  • from your ear! who knew!

  • why dont all women get the fatty implants from there own body and not use the synthetic kind? I think it would feel more natural and less likely to reject it.

  • its dangerous, really the synthetic is safer the your own fat. its kind'a nasty. i know that it seems like taking your own fat adn putting it in your breast so okii but really, you can get all kinda of nasty infections that could make you lose your breast-.- least thats what my teacher says...*shutters*

  • shudders*

  • Sometimes it isn't possible. My mom wanted to use her own body tissue from her abdomen but her doctor said that it would be much riskier for her due to a high possibility of her blood pressure rising dramatically. There are different reasons for everyone.

  • Is your mom OK!? I hope she is

  • aw, yes she is, thank you for asking!! She's done with all 3 parts of the surgery. I am very grateful.

  • my mother's having a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction today...I'm so nervous!

    Thanks for the video...

  • hi how is your mother? *hugs*

how did the surgery turn out? did she use implants? please let me know,* thank you

  • Hi, how are you?

My mom's surgery turned out great! I am so happy and relieved, to say the least. My mother had her double mastectomy and breast reconstruction back in May (which was 7 hours). After that surgery, she had to go into her doc's office every Monday to get silicone injected into the breasts to fill them out until she got to a size that she wanted (the silicone was temporary).

  • Glad to hear your mother is a Survivor..

  • Thank you very much! I am so glad and blessed.

  • Just 1 week ago, she got the implants put in. Once she heals, she will go back to get the nipples put on(which will be made from her own body tissue). She is up and running, and doing great. Thank you so much for asking. Take care!

  • Thank you for sharing that. God bless you and your mother. I guess she will not have to worry about b.c. any more.. ;) yay!!

  • Thank you very much. I hope and pray that none of us will have to worry about her getting B.C anymore (our family went through that once already and that was unbearable).

    Take great care!!

  • Wow.....it's amazing what doctor's can do your video's are great! keep making more :)

  • amazing what science can do!!

  • thaaaaaanks

    its great video

  • Great video; keeps the focus on recovery and choices for reconstruction. Well done!

  • Or, no reconstruction. Don't forget that is a healthy and viable option as well.

  • Operative word here is 'choice', poetvision. What any woman chooses is her own business, whether to have surgery or not.

This vid is for people who want to know about the surgical option.

  • my friend wants a breast implant and she is wondering that does it look more natural if under the muscle?

  • question: when the portion of the latissimus dorsi is put in place in the chest..

wil the cut off portion of the latissimus dorsi grow back?

  • It doesn't. You have a scar.

  • if it doesnt grow back, then youll have restriction to lift your arm?

  • I would suppose you might have some restriction since what is cut is gone forever.

Have you considered not doing anything? Retaining your pectoral and lats intact?

Great video, but there are alternatives to cutting up a woman's body.

Really, the fake boobs they build for you have no nerve endings. What's the point in that? Give me balloons and I can hand them out to people who think I should look a certain way.

  • Great medical explanation!!

  • That's a really informative 3d medical animation by Nucleus Medical Art! I never knew exactly how breast reconstruction was done. Very educational!

  • I always thought a breast reconstruction surgery was all about a foreign material implant like the balloon. I never thought that moving/relocating one's own tissue to the breast section was possible. Does this method have any side effects? Sore/pain in region where tissue was relocated from?

  • The breast reconstruction medical animation is very useful in helping inform patients about the differences in each method of breast reconstruction. Nice work Nucleus!

  • this is a great medical animation, its perfect for patient education cause it's not scary at all and I scare pretty easily

  • Wonderful animation! Very useful for explaining the different methods of breast reconstruction.
