@JWYVP it wont open on your computer. just download the file on your computer, then send that file via email to your gmail account on your droid phone, then you need an app installer on your phone to open the app and install it

i got everything loaded on my droid and ran the app. everything went great for like 10 minutes, now its been frozen for like 15 and i cant turn off my phone. im taking the battery out now and im gonna retry. am i doing something wrong? please help!
Will this work with an Android Droid with 2.2.1? I get to the part where I press "permanent root" and it seems like it takes forever to install. Is it supposed to take a long time to install?
Is it normal to take some time? I have a Droid X with the VZW official OTA 2.2 update and trying to root and the step running exploit to obtain root access is taking awhile.
Here is a side step. Just download the file from one of the links. Once you download the file... E-Mail it to your google Gmail account. Go to the E-Mail of the Apk for Z4root on your phone and it should give you an option to install. That way you can skip the app installer and go right to installing.

You can successfully just go to the megaupload site...the first link and download it straight to the phone from there. It could take up to 6 to 7 minutes to download even if it does not give you status on percentage it will download and when finished you can simply select the file and go right into installing.
Oh ok thanks..i just got a couple more questions..people tell me dat if u delete certain apps ur phone will get messed up..is that true?..and if it is what are da apps u cant delete?..or what if i dont delete anything lol..thank u so much for ur help i appreciate it
@toluca206 I would just suggest downloading launcher pro from the market. It is a way way better launcher and it is fast. There is a option in the preferences that allows you to hide apps in the app drawer. That would be better than deleting them permanently.
whats the chances of my droid x getting bricked?..people say it only bricks if u erase apps but what apps exactly?..and what if i dont erase anythin? lol
@toluca206 I would say the chances of you bricking during root are extremely low. I have not had a single person message me on all three different roots I have posted videos for. I did have a few people get stuck because they were rooting on low battery life but soon realized they were not bricked.
Could you download Z4 Root directly onto the Droid X, save it to the memory card and run it for a succesful root? I can't seem to find instructions on how to do it via macbook

@furbyREYES Hey there, just download the file, than attach your phone to the computer w a USB cable. After the file has been downloaded, find it in your downloads and just grab it and put in on you removable disk (which is the SD card) don't put it in a folder though...Hope it helps =)
Z4Root Does not work on Moto Droid 1. For what reason I do not know, but i've tried it 4 times and all it does is slow my phone down to a stop pretty much. Is there a way to download the apps needed, or find the apps needed to run it on a Moto Droid 1?
Had the first droid for close to a year and never bothered to root, got the droid x and just rooted it with your easy tutorial, thank you so much. Love the music that went with the tutorial. Keep it coming, I just subscribed !
@con3legend It should take no longer than a few minutes. If you ever get stuck just do a battery pull. It is also recommended that you root on at least 60 percent of battery power. The standard for firmware updates etc. is 60 percent battery life.
Okay so I did it as described but without a computer. I used astro to move z4root.apk to the sd card. I didn't realize I had to enable usb debugging but it seems to work. I was allowed to use wireless tether app but could not connect to the internet with another device. What now?
@macappfan I have posted root tutorials for 2.1 ... 2.2 ... and now 2.2.1 and nobody has ever told me they bricked there phone. I did have 2 or 3 people on 2.2 tell me they bricked it but they quickly got back to me to let me know it was fine. I think people who thought they bricked it were trying to root on low battery life.
@toluca206 I have not heard of any serious problems with this method. In my opinion you are safe. I read and heard of people getting stuck in the process but were able to do a battery pull and be back in business.
Need some help here. Everything installed correctly, when I try to root, it says that USB Debugging must be enabled, which it already is, so I humor the silly rooting program and uncheck then check it again, and it still continues to say that it needs to be enabled. Any help?
@xxxBlooDFloWxxx I ran into the same problem at first. All you have to do is leave debugging enabled...turn your phone off and on and run Z4Root again.
@theswagfactor1 Through your usb data cable Pc to DX or Manually take the sd card out and transfer from you Pc with and SD adapter... there are a few ways to do this but the most simple would be your data cable.
i know this is for the droid x but i tried to do this in moto droid. it slowed it down to shit. and when i tried to do "permanent root" it just closed the app. the phone didnt reboot. any suggestions?

Works perfectly! Just did it now in the matter of 3 minutes. Didn't have to unroot before 2.2.1. Follow these directions and you will be rooted again on 2.2.1!!
I have read hundreds of droid forum post & while many think Z4Root still roots their update, when they try to run an app requiring root access as i have it fails. @bgmalchemycht I am sorry you are having problems but it works. I am tethered to my labtop right now writing this to you rooted...running 2.2.1 using wifi tether from google code. I am also using Jrummys overclocker, set cpu, among other things. The only problem I ran into is when I tapped on permanent root I had debugging turned on but it said it was not... but after a quick reboot I was able to go back in Z4Root and select permanent root.
This is INCORRECT! Sense the latest Motorola Droid update in Dec. 2010, Z4Root will no longer root the phone. If you don't believe me wipe your phone, reinstall fresh, Install Z4Root open & choose root, even though it appears to root it does not. Download an app from market needing root access it will fail.
