Get your facts right. Lou Dobbs is hated by every single hispanic brodcasting network. Take Telemundo for example. They are some very hard working people who research" very" carefully before reporting. But I guess that they dont like him because hes squeaky clean in all that. ...hmmm..ok ill buy that.

who is for a fortress? what I tyepd is very simple and realistic. We need open borders for trade but it must be secured. Why? It's common sense to know who, what, when, how is comming in and out. A nation without secured borders is not a nation, but wild west territory, a failed state.

I didn't mean shutting down trade, just referring to the garrison measures necessary to keep tight control of immigration. (even accepting the idea that those in power would use those assets for that purpose)

What historical evidence do you have that open immigration causes nations to fall apart? Generally this is due to overwhelming military invasion or economic collapse caused by state policy.

You should look into the actual stats on the "wild" west.

@nickfl1980 The Roman empire collapsed because it was a welfare state. By the time of it's collapse 2/3 of all Roman citizens were on welfare leaving only 1/3 of the population to pay for everyone. There's nothing wrong with open immigration for all law abiding people when you have a free market and people have to be productive. When you have a welfare state like ancient Rome or the USA now it creates problems because everyone can come to your country and demand payment for not working.

You should listen more closely to what was actually said. Stossel did not say that Dobbs was against all immigrants, but that he devotes much airtime to anti-immigrant rants. Stossel did not specify a legal category. It seems to me that he sees something unsavory about the amount of time devoted to the topic, regardless of his take on the legal status issue.
