Well look it the other way, in a democracy, the people wote and 57% of the people wote yes, then actually 43% are not happy, that would be nealry 500000 unhappy people.

We just had that in school and well, the reality is shocking but true that all in all, the democracy makes the people more unhappy.

You can easily argue that those in a democracy are more willing to state how they really feel because there isn't a potentially severe consequence for breaking from the majority. Sometimes people will say anything to avoid the negative spotlight. Granted, it's only my opinion

In a Republic we elect our officials so things like 57% of us suddenly decide for example that all Jews need to die(before i get harassed about this i realize that Nazi Germany was not Democratic but in fact Fascist). American for founders expressed strong feeling about making sure America would not turn into a Democracy but instead remain a Republic.
