This is definitely one of the most intense and delightful composition ever. Jules Massenet was probably kissed by a muse when he wrote this masterpiece.

This is beautiful! I love the opera and in the final scene I remember a duet between Paphnce and Thais based on this theme, It is lovely. This evoked some lovely memories.
I played it when I found out my parents wanted to get divorced. It stopped me from crying. That's how beautiful it is!
My parents reconciled, though, but this is the piece I'm playing for my University Orchestra's audition 2 days from now. I don't sound NEARLY as good as this.
& MJ could be a good reason to want to play anything beautiful like this too, but in the end, I'm sure we both play it simply for its own sake.
It's like I'll happily tell my family I love them when something good happens to me, or when they do/give me something really nice, but telling people I love them for love's sake alone... sadly isn't one of my strongest points :o(

Cette version est magnifique je ne sais pas qui est au violon et dirige l'orchestre, mais je parierai pour Sarah Chang et Flacido Domingo tellement elle a compris l'intensité que Massenet à mis ici. C'est sobre, sans vibrato excessif. C'est une pure, vraie Méditation. Merci
Quel collection des tableaux ! J'aime surtout ceux d'Egypte (bien sûr, l'opéra se déroule à Alexandrie..) Je suis allé déjà deux fois et je compte y retourner. Vous me faites voyager dans le temps et de l'esprit. Il est vrai que l'Egypte était à la mode en 19e siècle (même dans le style mobilier) et peut-être trop dans le romantisme, mais l'Egypte fait rêver. J'ai passé un précieux moment de cinq minutes et trente sept secondes !

Il y a encore le train Orient Express. Il ne va pas jusqu'à Istanbul, mais entre Paris et Venise, en passant par Buda-Pest ou Prague. Moi aussi, j'aimerais prendre ce train, mais c'est un peu cher pour un voyage de 4 jours.(2400€ - mais à deux, c'est moins cher :) Et je connais par coeur Venise, j'y suis allé au moins 10 fois ! - Vous avez un peu le même goût que moi!
"Mort à Venise", c'est un chef d'ouvre. J'adore Venise, parce qu'on trouve toujours quelques choses de différentes. J'étais victime de pick-pocket 2 fois (Touriste japonais...bon pigeon !) mais j'y retourne quand même.
Vous verrez, c'est comme si on est au 19e siècle pendant le carnaval. (mais il fait froid !)

The different interpretations of this piece are always interesting. Leonid Kogan ommitted the final few bars, choosing to end on the high 'A'. I like that, not least because there's always one sleepy fool who starts clapping at that bit, no matter how much you try to lead into it. Also, there are versions without the 2 bar introduction - just straight in. It's such a beautiful piece.

Matter of fact he played this at my baptism July 31, 2005. Sadly he passed away July 12, 2006 from Esophageal cancer, but his music touched so many hearts and lives.
