Wow! Ich bin durch Zufall hier gelandet, weil ich mich mit Mozart beschäftigen wollte. Wobei ich keine Ahnung von klassischer Musik habe. Ich hab auch solche Schulveranstaltungen hinter mir ... das Lampenfieber ist auch nicht wirklich klein ;-) ... trotzdem:

Warum gerade der Papageno nicht einen geraden Ton singen kann ... zusätzlich ist das tw nur Sprechgesang - verstehe ich nicht ...gibts doch gar nicht daß es keinen anderen Schüler gab??! Die Papagena war auch schwach - dünnstes Stimmchen ohne Kraft ---> aber die 3 Mädls dafür sowas von gewaltig gut, daß es einem die Sprache verschlägt ...

genau lesen hilft manchmal... hätten wir professionelle sängerknaben für die aufführung engagiert, hätte der sinn und zweck einer schulaufführung mit UNSEREN schülern wenig sinn ergeben. wir waren/sind eine ganz normale schule ohne besondere singtalente, und wenn dann ist das halt nur zufall. wenigstens können die drei mädels schön singen und das ist die hauptsache.

können halt nun mal nicht alle profis sein.

Übrigens gibt es bei treblefan77 einen Auschnitt aus dem Ingmar-Bergman-Film "The Magic Flute", wo die Drei Knaben eine Partie der Drei Damen singen.

I think its fairly common to use women instead of boys, especially in schools, were three boys with high enough voices can be hard to find.

Naja das hat schon was...

So schlecht finde ich das nicht.Nur den hohen Ton nach 4:19 min hat sie leider voll verfehlt.Aber Mozart ist eben nicht einfach.Und für eine Schulauffuhrung doch ganz beachtlich.Sicher wer keine Ausgebildete Stimme hat es eben noch schwerer da hoch zu kommen.(Oder eben nicht).

Ich singe selber in Hamburg in einem Operettenchor und wir hatten das Stück auch in der letzten Aufführung.(Ausgebildete Sänger).

Im Gegensatz zu: "Der Segen froher Eltern seyn" heißt es "Der Eltern Segen werden seyn" und der Rest, wie du ihn oben schon zitiert hast, fällt gänzlich weg...

Papageno is a bird catcher and he dresses up as a bird to confuse the birds and have an easier time catching them

Papagena dresses similarly, so the two of them match ^^

well, it appears that Papageno is an invented name, derived from the Italian word "pappagallo", which means "parrot"

Given that Papageno catches birds and dresses up as a parrot or at least bird-like, and that Schikaneder (who wrote the Libretto) probably could speak Italian, the assumption seems not so far fetched :)
