well, i think it's safe to say that a $100 dollar walmart bike would survive a run down...it's just a matter of how many rides down. lol but if you're going to be doing this as ur style of riding then investing in a 2k would be a good idea. I know this, because i started doing dh on my hardtail..then i got a big hit. =P it lasted for about a month...now it's in 2 pieces... =)

we're going up to whistler this summer for like a week to mountain bike. my buddy and i like to mountain bike around here (wa) but we barely make it out to real places like galbraith mountain. do you think it would be a good idea to invest in a used downhill bike for like $1000? right now i ride a upped Giant xtc (like 10 years old)

Well the problem with used down hill bikes is that they're ridden very hard. I have taken my big hit into the shop a lot of times so if you're going to buy a used one, i would take it to a bike shop and just have them check it out. make sure it won't snap on you. =) lol But other than that, it's a good way to save a lot of money!
