I totally respect Descartes and have read his Discourse on Method, but we must remember this was before the enlightenment period, and even before Darwin. We know far more now than we did in the early 1600's, culminating in several flaws within his arguments. This is not proof of God's existence. It was simply a new means of philosophical thinking.
The assumption that we were "created" by anything is a common fallacy you unwittingly stumbled upon in this video. I appreciate your other points but this one is flawed.
@onlyguitar1001 You're kidding right? Part of his philosophy was that you cannot know anything apart from the fact that you exist.
And furthermore what he thought. is so so so very important. His influences especially in mathematics are very much alive today. It is very much what he thought as it's importance.
@MrLamchopxl71 explain why when you look up the quote on google search, only descartes comes up? and why would my philosophy teacher tell me that he said that if he didn't. why is it that it's always his name linked with that quote? you're the first person i've ever heard say "I think; therefore, I am" is not Descartes' own words.
@jimbojimmothy check the youtube video that gets deleted alot. It shows the college in israel that offers courses on how to edit wikipedia with the money that is stolen from americans and shipped to that stolen land israel
@xar51 he does not say it in the Meditations, true, but he says it in the Discourse on the Method and the Principles of Philosophy where he actually uses the latin Cogito ergo Sum.
If God DOES NOT EXIST, then you should think and read Descartes' argument about the rumours of God being flawless and perfect as is where they came from and why their still here today. Just think about that. Those things about God could have come from somewhere.
sometimes we over rate one particular individual to the extent that it becomes hard to understand his simple lines his simple philosophy like what we did to few of modern day philosophers " i think therefore i am" what the heck he was making simple point that we treated in a way that most of us wrote this line on their bodies got posters fitted in bathrooms obviously a thinking place making fcking sense out of their philosophy that they themselves never thought of !
please help me! i need to do a documentary film about rene descartes connected to philosophy. if ever you can give me some ideas on how to do it or how to start it, please do. It would be a great help! =] thanks!
"If we had created ourselves, we would have made ourselves perfect." That's the flaw in this video. I MUST make myself perfect? Why? If I want nothing more than to see what a flawed body, either emotionally or physically, would go through, I wouldn't make myself perfect. My life could end abruptly or until at 95. I could then wake from this dream, examine the results and try another scenario. God is faith. I don't think you can rationalize faith with logic. Decartes' idea is simple and true.
Wow, stately words from if not the greatest one of the greatest philosophers and thinkers of all time. His appeal to the divine is questionable, but it makes total logic and without the mention of God the whole statement could fall to pieces. Without the use of God, I don't think we could think anything exists at all, everything is subjective, but when we add God into this, Philosophy, the Universe, and Existance is both logical and beautiful.
Great vid but the assmption of God is hypothetical because all evidence can tell different meanings, it's the concience assumption we make for our selves that is the answer to us individually... We will understand if god exists when the candle melts
descartes is in a bar drinking a beer. the waiter ask him if he want another one. Descartes answers: "i don't think". Then he disappear!

If he proved that there is God then everyone should accept that. So did he really prove it?

Overall I liked the video, it was interesting. I'm glad I'm a faster reader :) I loved the pictures you used and the way you wrote everything.
