I saw the Romantics as a warm up for Cheap Trick, this was before they released this song though. I actually only wanted to go to the concert to see them as I was not a big Cheap Trick fan, lol. One of my mates set a seat on fire in Madison Square Garden and I silently slithered away and watched on the steps so I wouldn't get kicked out, oh to be 16 again. BTW this version, interesting only because of the girls otherwise pretty lame.
@rsturbolad26 Yeh the Romantics version is so similar yet alot better in all aspects (emotionally, production wise, tighter etc). At least they got song writing rights and more people now know who The Romantics are over Bucks Fizz
It'd be funny if one of the girls whacked their heads on the fingerboard of the guitar as they stood up from crouching down and singing into their mics.
I love buckfizz, land of makebelieve etc ow my yes but this has too much sinth instead of real drums the romantics did it first and gave it something only a good (band) can give it.
Well done Bucks Fizz. Best version of this song EVER MADE!!!
The Romantics are somewhat unromantic with their poorer (but not unlistenable) version. Bucks Fizz version is much more professionally mixed and better put together. 100% accurate and true. OK?
I must respectfully disagree. The original has a haunting quality to its' sound that lent itself well to the subject. This one is cool, no argument there, but it's a very different interpretation that I just can't connect with the words. The women are an incredible addition, though.
I agree, not a bad version but they can NEVER outdo the original. I should know, I covered this song myself but I just couldn't get the vibe of the original. My version can be found in my profile.
that is correct, the romantics wrote and released it in 1983, but was unpopular in the uk charts until bucks fizz covered and released this version in 1984
Actually, their not even playing their guitars. I'm a guitarist, so I know. That guitar player has no idea what he's doing. The guitars are only props. Those guys are only singers. Great song though...
Well, yeah; the guitarist isn't even moving his left hand. Seems like most music videos are just miming except for live stuff, so you can't really tell anymore since it's always going to look fake to you or me.
Whoever actually did the music did a pretty good job, though.
At least this is not the worst version...but is rubish anyway...

What’s the artistic value of making a cover version that’s basically a copy?

The Romantics were a great group that never really had much a chance to succeed.

Are you talking about the world famous Romantics that no body else has ever heard of? They were brilliant weren't they.

The Romantics would have been bigger, but a dispute with their label killed off any chance of more fame.
