Edward Gal and Totilas were a perfect pair. It s so obvious in the attitude style, and presentation exhibited here and in all the videos I have seen. I have read a horse never forgets. I am sad he has been sold and on to new owners.
Its funny to read those negative comments. As a trainer I know most negative comments are probably coming from "backyard" riders that couldnt even get through a low level dressagepattern without pulling the horses mouth or spurring it in the sides.
Love watching dressage videos and watch how different horses work and carry themself. The FEI commitee banned rollkur and wouldnt give a high score if they suspected it. Enjoy the ride instead!!
He has a very nice canter, and a very correct piaffe. 10 means perfect. This horse is trained correctly and is beautiful. Who are we to be arguing with weather or not this horse is "correct" when the best judges in the world are giving him 90%+!? I however, do not like his extended trot. If he wouldn't give so much effort with his front legs, his back legs would have a chance of reaching equally. You can't train that kind of leg movement, it's from his breeding.
Hey - either you buy into the new competitive ideal or you don't.
I happen to think its hideous, but - like the half dead Western Pleasure horse - I'm afraid the mechanical Dressage puppet is here to stay. And why not? All the equestrian sports are becoming characatures of their former selves.
I'm kind of surprised that people still bother to argue about it, really.
There is nothing wrong with the way this horse is working! You can definatly not compare this horse to the 'blue tounge world cup horse' If you knew anything about dressage, you would understand that.
i think these both are worth to view them and i would never judge them. i feel a little bit ashamed for all those riders writing bad comments. maybe they were a little bit jealous. i would be very happy if i had a horse like this and if i could ride like this and even then i would not judge them. i do not think that we all should look away if something goes wrong, but sometimes it´s not so bad to have a look at ouerselves instead of pointing at others.
Did you know they NEVER turn this horse out? I just read an article about it. Apparently he's to "valueable"... Poor horse. kept in a box, and then paraded around like a circus freak. He's not even a horse :(
seriously, that is just awful, he is worth £22 million, and it is such a shame, if you look at a classically trained horse, they have happier, smoother movements, not as tense- this is a very tense test. These horses are simply robots.
When he canters at the wrong point - 2 early - u know he's like a child who's being told how 2 behave & controlled all the time n he's suddenly just got it wrong 4 a mo - then he's quickly gathered n all back under control again... He's like a Spanish Lipizzana (spelling?) in certain movement s, but the wrong breed 2 b so elavated... their riders wear spurs n tight double bridles 2.. Don't u just wannna take him out on a beach n gallop flat out or let him loose 2 do woteva he pleases!!!
Actually, 'Edward' got it wrong - there's no way a horse that's so controlled n has no access 2 equine reality (ie. out in the field, fucking about, njoying the company of other horses/ponies) get's it wrong - there4 it must b rider error :-(
vorne hui hinten pfui wenn das die zukunft unseres dressursports ist können wir ja einpacken -.- ich finde das ist eher zirkus anstatt gymnastizierendes reiten..
Just take a look at the 'Blue tongue world cup' video on You tube - the wonderful training behind this superb performance ??!!!!! ....I don't think !!
THANK YOU! I'm getting sick of people attacking me when I see "leg throwing" and not pushing from behind. I don't understand what's going on with judges these days. Granted, he's a beautiful horse, but it's simply not correct.
Perhaps all the advocates of Edward Gal should watch this video...Edward Gal en Moorland's Totilas clinic NIC Zuidlaren deel 1... it might be enlightening. I'd like to say you don't have to be a pro to know what is right and wrong, in fact most experts don't know, let alone care, what is wrong at all.
¡Bravo Totilas!
I would like to make it clear that I DO NOT blame the horse for the mistakes in the extended trot and halt. Since the horse is the one performing the movements I just always say 'his' (which could also refer to the rider in this case). While it is possible that this horse does not have the elasticity in the hind end to overtrack the ex. trot the halts are completely the fault of the rider.
Rhetorical question - Why is the reference to the "horse" making the mistake? Both partners in this team are phenomenal, but let's leave room for rider error!
okay guys so don't hate me but... the piaffe and passage work was lovely, active in the hind end, rhythmical, uphill. the extensions though (for me) were a huge disappointment. I thought when I started watching this that with that hind end I was going to see an expressive AND through extended trot but all I saw was illusion. the ex. trot should overtrack by several hoof prints and his was hardly through in some spots, and his first halt salute was a disaster. I did love the pirouettes.
you are absolutely right, great piaffe and passage tour, but spanish trot or working trot (just tracking up into his foot print) with great elevation of the front legs is not the definition in the FEI. you are right about the extended trot. all 3 halts were disasters, with 45 degrees behind the veritcal in 2 and not square and backing before the rein back,
how about the cross canter instead of the left lead strike off? i think you have to have courage to say what you are seeing correctly. kudos to you for calling a spade a spade
thanks, I'm always concerned that people will yell at me you know? It's not like the horse isn't a beautiful mover, but the behind the vertical thing in the halt makes me cringe.
no one is arguing that this is a beautitful horse, well bred, compact, dramatic and with beautiful athletic ability. when we speak of 'his mistakes' being because he is so young. remember these are all rider mistakes. don't forget: a horse already knows how to be a horse it is the rider's humble task to do him justice and learn how to ride him and bring out the best in the horse' the horse would be in a pasture or a stall without the rider. the errors are not by the horse, but by the rider.
i was there and i tell you- the atmospere was phenominal! this horse came in and everybody stopped what they were doing. Totilas has done that mistake in the walk before- thats simply his youth coming into play. i hear they don't want to breed from him right now, which is fair enough. he is young and being a stud may make him difficult to ride. got plenty of time though =) xxx
definitely not! Thank god he won't be a breeding stallion. This way he won't be exhausted from both breeding and sports and will get us the gold medal!
Thank you so much for sharing! And the person commenting on the score is phenomenal. Look at Totilas being perfectly calm after the ride, amazing! And what a comeback after the misunderstanding into the passage. Thank you once more.
..... and a legend is born!

Nice horse indeed - but are the judges forgetting to follow the FEI dressage rules??
How does it get 10's when the poll is not at the highest point, when the back legs do not equal the extension of the front legs.
10 is perfect, this clearly is not !
