Proverbs says that a wise man will have riches laid up in his house, but it also devotes several verses in that same passage (which I don't consider to be coincidence) to extolling the virtues of generosity. The key, then, is that our lives in every regard be flow-through accounts. We ought to give as Jesus gave, without reservation or asking for return,

I have been struggling with finances. God is providing for me. I have gained my treasure in Heaven. I pity the GREEDY people on this earth. Greed doesn't get you to Heaven. Jesus paid my way and not the money of this world. Greedy people want more and more. Why do you think that our world is in trouble? Nothing compares to the riches of Heaven. My treasures are laid up for me there.

Case in point: Sodom and Gomorrah. another one is Egypt. Read your bible more and know that God will take care of business when it is needed. He allowed the two bombs to be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He also allowed 9-11. If he doesn't deal with the bullies of the world, then he is not a just God.

"the eye of a needle" was a common name in the time of Jesus describing a "hair pin" turn in the mountains. It describes a tight and awkward turn that one was forced to come down off his camel and lead it through himself. I believe what Jesus was saying was that it is very difficult for a rich person to come to him because it is easy to become comfortable in earthly riches. The more comfortable you are on your camel the more likely you are to simply "go a different path"...just my 2 cents.

I agree totally. Jesus said the LOVE of money was the root of all evil. You can be poor and still love money. Being rich is a stumbling block but it is a different problem altogether. As you point out, dont serve it, make it work to your benefit and move on.

I believe that money makes good people better, and bad people worse. The trouble right now is that the wrong people have the money. Dallas holm is a fantastic guy. I met him and his wife once. I ended up up with 2autographed CD's and he even signed my sling... I had a broken arm at the time. I still have that sling! (and the CD's)

The publican in Lk.18:14 went to his house justified. The just shall live by faith (Hab.2:4,Rm.1:17) and the humble shall be exaulted. Remember the characteristic of the Pharisee was self righteousness (Rm.10:1-4). The publican smote his breast (showing godly sorrow) and seems to be like of the parable in Mt.21:28-32. Also in Mt.5:3 (poor in spirit) the word "poor" is from the Greek word "ptochos" which is also traslated "beggar". This describes the attitude of prayer for the publican (broken).

BTW, the parable of the sower does speak about the deceitfulness of riches, so if that concept of what I was going over before from James1:9-11 might not fit in that same way in the parable of the sower, but may from that parable be pointing to a hindrance to taking up our cross and following Christ. This might be of the implication from 1Tim.6:10.
