I cannot seriously believe how many people have told me Enka sounds like dying cats. I didn't realize that this was Enka until I just looked it up, but had I known, I would have called them all crazy. This is a beautiful singing style, and what comes first to mind when I think of Japanese music. Traditional, rich, and enchanting.

i grew up in japan i moved to the uk in 01 when i was 14 and since jpop is popular in my visual arts club at uni i thought i could take some enka in a but it seams im the only one who like Enka they will play h!p stuff all day but soon as i put say 梶芽衣子 get funny looks is enka really that obscure out outside of Japan

I'm portuguese and know Fado really well. The word 'Fado' means fate - that's why it's played with so much soul.

the difference between the two genres, I think, is that enka is much much softer. Fado is sung very powerfully.

I work in the U.S. with international students from Japan and I am so sad how the Japanese students hate enka and prefer rap and American culture. (nothing wrong with rap but nothing wrong with enka either)

I'm from Brazil, and a lot of Brazilian students, boys and girls like rap and Brazilan funk more than good music.

I hate nowadays Brazil music scene. there's a lot of shit music. there's good music too, but the most popular are rap, hip-hop and funk.

It's so different from American funk. It's a sickening music genre which makes Brazilian women's image fall.
