not being funny but anyone with basic photoshop skills can make a shit hole look amazing, which is basically all you've done here from what i can see.
These photos were nice to see. I have not lived in Folkestone for over 10 years when I finished school there. It's great to see these photos and to recognise a few sights. It might even convince me to come back and have a look at the place next time I am in the UK. Nice to see some positive publicity for once. Great photos...thanks for putting them here for everyone to see :).
I absolutely love this, I lived in Folkestone up until I was about 10, my grandparents still live there.
I love Folkestone and it's good to see Other people do too; my cousin and friends I still have down there hate it and I honestly don't understand why, Folkestone is beautiful, the air is cleaner the people are nicer it's just bliss.
I try to get down as much as possible especially in the summer.
Your photography is amazing and you truly capture everything I love about home.
Folkestone is a magical place, I live in London now, but part of me will always remain in the town that was my birth place, and which will continue to be the inspiration for everything I've done since then and now. It's strange that a lot of the scenes in this video I photographed with my Instamatic at the time, there are a lot of "key areas" like The Lease, and the harbour, plus that scene of the Warren with the cliff's reaching into the distance to Dover........
@thedebtsettler they have loads here.. one on radnor park, 2 or 3 in hythe most weekends and one at port lympne zoo... also a big one over in sandwich.
Excellent photography. I live in Folkestone and like every town it had it's good and bad parts. Well done for showing the positive aspects of a town that is once again starting to thrive.
I like these pictures, they are what they are, I like the effects. I used to live in Folkestone, it was beautiful in the 60's/70's, I can't stand to go back there now, it's too depressing, the Warren, and the Leas, are still magical for me though.
Photoshop or no photoshop Folkestone has lots of lovely places to see, go walk take a camera and see what you come up with , yes places are down in the town but look at the ever changing sea and countrside , I LOVE Folkestone my hometown it is who i am .
becaus i dont care enough about this shitty town to do anythign about it alos im 18 im not going anywhere until im i have enough money to be able to canada and being able to cope comftably there
@MrThePun Well i see you are also a photographer so why dont you go and take some "unphotoshopped!" pictures of Folkestone if you live here instead of saying you hate it... you can always move if you dont like it here :)
@bubbawillums Hey buddy, really love the images you took, personally I would say that the only negative is its obvious they've been photoshopped, in my opinion if they hadn't been pushed quite so far in photoshop they would look a lot better and more authentic., I've yet to get out to Folkestone for some pics (I'm only 20 mins down the road) but there's definitely some good places to shoot,
beautiful song and awsome images . Who are the women featured? Are they friends or just public that you photoed . terrific presentation, shame that the old rotunda site did not feature as this would have shown the current poor state of this part of the town
remember the money Folkestone made AND SAW, it put it on the map and as far as De Haan is concerned he doesn't even need the money to rebuild Folkestone but he is and he only does it because he cares about Folkestone, sure the boost in the economy may increase his pay but do you see Michael Howard etc putting money into new schools to help the youth etc? Never mind the rubbish council how about you guys move out of town- would save us a lot!! Community spirit!
How about being 'patriotic'! People don't determine a places beauty...These photo's quite clearly illustrate what lovely features the place has! I'm all for the nature and I'm against the political bull****, however you cannot deny that JG provided a thriving economy anyone that can remember Folkestone when places like the Sunday market and Rotunda were there would
ya.. very good at taking photo's, and its more the weather and well taken pics which makes this town attractive... which u have put together very well.
unfortunately, realisticly, there are a lotta twats in this town and a lotta shit that needs repairing or removed .
Folkestone is not a case of 'what you see is what you get'; more a case of 'how you see is what you get'. People who view it negatively are discounting the fact that we have town, coastal and country areas and communities. The photos here (while predominantly of the coastal areas) display the natural beauty that is possible if you look. JG is only a part of the town's history, and to dismiss Folkestone out of hand is a disservice to the countless people who try to improve it for the better.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Folkestone is gone, dead, forgotten. Jimmy Godden destroyed the seafront and killed the tourist industry so no-one has any reason to go there. People think of it as a run-down, chain-shop polluted town that just happens to be on the sea.
Would the last person to leave Folkestone please turn out the lights? Thank you
Sorry you feel that way my friend.. however it is on the up and i have seen many positive changs in the last 2 years and will continue to help and promote my town :)
Me?? No, I'm from Folkestone. I was born there, have a house there and expound its virtues to people when talking of our hometowns. I'm currently in Jakarta and look forward to returning in November. I teach foreign children when they come to the town and they ALL say how peaceful, green, friendly it is. And that the air is fresh. It's happened too often for it just to be them being nice. I introduce them to the town's history, too. It IS a very nice town. I like it.
@louthesz I live up north and i LOVE Folkestone, i lived/worked on a Vineyard there last year for about 3 months and i have so many happy memories. Although i agree these pictures are more creative art than a document of what Folkestone actually looks like. I'm planning a short visit in October, can;t wait!
Folkestone is no different to any other Town/City, including L.A.. Cannes or Monaco... if you look for the dirt you will find it.
Some of the true residents know that there is also good to be found. This video shows some of that.. A certain well known artist also visited the area and liked what he saw .. his name ?... WILLIAM TURNER.
Sometimes I wonder how folk can miss the beauty right under their noses. I have only lived here a few years and I love the place and totally agree with spikemanfortune...
These pictures are how a guy with an eye for beauty sees Folkestone - we should all look through his eyes and life would be infinitely more wonderful.
your photos are good but they are not the true depiction of Folkestone. You'v very clevery used alot of sunsets etc which many find attractive but you always seem to focus on the same aspects of the town. Folkestone's got its possitives yes, but would you really live here if you had the choise?
An excellent vid ( bit self indulgent) but you miss the point, the town has been torn to pieces by messrs Godden and De haan with assistance by Cllr bliss and his cronies you should have put the song Wastelands on the vid instead
There is no editing been done here that would not have been done using film types and conventional darkroom processing. Digital photography means that the pictures need to be "processed" through photoshop as the darkroom no longer applies these days.
Hardly any editing done to this pics only black and white conversions where needed. Any photo thats ever been taken has had work done to it either in camera or during the processing of film, i prefer to use daylight balancing filters and creative use of exposures to get my pics.. But thanks for the negative feedback which is what i would expect from someone who makes a video like you did.

I am moving to Folkestone soon and I wondered if anyone can let me know what large regular boot sales there are on in the area?
I am willing to travel up to about 25 miles from Folkestone itself.
Ive heard there is a good one on at Ashford on a Sunday?
I would be most appreciative if anyone could let me know?

Where's Radnor Park?
Is it that big green area just as you drive in on the left near the Railway bridge and roundabout?

3tezkez 2 years ago
When will people realize that photoshop is just a digital version of the darkroom (that EVERY film photograph went through) Jake..:
Boost colour - Use Fuji Velvia film
Dark vignette - Use cheap lens
Grainy - Use fast ASA film
Darker skies - Graduated filter
Even sharpening was done in the darkroom.
Jake, I can't believe you get up to change the channel instead of using the remote because it's the 'modern' way of doing things...
