to be honest i don't see the big deal about stuart zender. Most of their best songs were after he left. Eg; love foolosophy, little l, feels just like it should, runaway, seven days in sunny june...
ok im not going to lie, a lot of people seriously dickride zender. But he was a founding member of the group and was a LARGE part of defining the early jamiroquai sound. All those songs you name with the exception of runaway are not really bass oriented jamiroquai songs. I think the most significant thing about stuart's departure was the change in sound. They could easily stil lbe making funky acid jazz tunes. But lately its been almost daft-punk sounding music.
You're quite right, but lot of people over-estimate the influence of SZ for the band. He brought a great groove for the band. But it was JK who wrote the basslines. And look well the albums booklets : how many songs SZ co-wrote for the album ? I think Toby Smith had a more important role for the songwriting than Stu. But yeah, Stu is a legend.
the real question is how many songs did zender not get proper writing credit for? i saw a photo of an album he signed and he wrote his name next to 3 more of the tracks, right by toby and jay's. i think that says a lot.
Yeah maybe you're right, maybe that's why he left the band. But he said last year on an interview(a bass magazine), that that's JK wrote all the basslines.

maybe, but he still put his own influence into it. it's obvious the sound of the band changed quite a bit after his departure.
