This is one of the greatest songs every written. I've heard renditions of it by such legends as Patsy, Cline, Loretta Lynn and Lynn Anderson, but nobody nails it quite like Ms. Wells: exactly the right tempo and use of vocal range, and even the instrumental accompaniment (especially that mournfully whining steal guitar) do justice to this song like none other!

I was a little boy of 6. Boy, what memories this song brings! My daddy was an Indiana farmer, my mommy, in the corn row next to him. What a hard life and I don't blame daddy. He drank a lil' bit much whiskey and caused mommy some tears, but this song used to play in the '54 Chevy Truck as I sat and watched them both work so hard rogether. We made it and now I watch my own sons plow that field and 1000 acres more with pride.
