  • Arlington

  • LA, Atlanta, DC all nerve wracking, white knuckle commutes!

  • @GodsBestJoke Thank you for watching, check out my newer videos in HD.

  • i dont remember this road whenmy 5th grade class went here

  • Anyone moving here may want to think about the traffic congestion, because going towards Woodbrigde is horrific during rush hour, as well as other parts of the area. The interstate system is not confusing after you have been here for a while, but it takes sometime getting use to, and I say this because of the traffic problems and the fact there are so many transplants here and they all have their own driving style.

  • @menuvision I know dude, i have to go from Falls Church all the way to Woodbridge, going on I-395 and I-95.I also have to go back. It is so annoying, ESPECIALLY AROUND THE LORTON EXIT!

  • These are fun to watch. I'm thinking about moving to this part of the country after school, specifically Washington DC, so videos like this are very informative! Thank you.

  • @yourwifecalledagain Thank you!

  • they need to widen it on the virginia side badly. it is a mess every afternoon. it is amazing how many cars are on that road trying to get out of d.c. on a weekday especially.

  • VDOT wants to put HOT lanes on this section of I-395 but Arlington County has sued them saying it was discriminatory against low-income residents. They are also hindering the progress of the I-66 widening inside the beltway. I've never seen a highway other than I-66 that decreases in lanes as you get closer to the city.

  • This is way better than Street View from Google...hehehe...I likes!!!

  • I've gotta tell you. That Interstate system looks awful confusing.

  • In general it's not confusing at all, this small section in downtown Washington however is confusing from a numbering standpoint.

  • @Themadfarter1976 - That's what I said when I first came to Virginia.....

But it's really not that hard to understand if you know that you have I-95, and at Springfield the mixing bowl begins. I-495 circles around DC, and 95 doesn't go through DC, but east of the city and into Maryland. 395 takes you into the city, and I-295 can take you out of the city (or vice versa).

    That's all. =)

  • This area looks nice and clean with full of trees!!!

  • AWESOME GREAT JOB

  • Nice video, I take the democracy Blvd exit to my house.

  • there are plans to make I-95 go THROUGH wasington DC believe it or nto.

  • Those plans died almost 30 years ago, ain't gonna happen although I wish it would.

  • what's the song homeboy?

  • @ATP2555ify "War" by Joe Satriani; It's right there under the video screen as a download.

  • Heh, I live in Springfield when I'm not at school. I'm going up tomorrow - taking 81 north and then 66 west, I think. 4 hours of driving - and sharing the road with the most dangerous drivers around(18-25). Your vids are awesome, btw!

  • Virginia Tech?

  • Radford, actually. Close, though!

  • that couldnt be 695 because 695 is a beltway that circles baltimore and youre in D.C. so that is most likely 295

  • That is indeed I-695, as long as it does not enter MD it won't violate any numbering rules, I've seen it marked on road maps from the 1960's as well.

  • if that 695, you should be around baltimore then?

  • 3-digit interstate numbers are allowed to repeat as long as they aren't within the same state. The freeway connector between I-395 and I-295 in DC is I-695 (but is not signed as such); the Baltimore beltway is another I-695.

There are I-395s in Virginia/DC and in Baltimore, as well.

  • Whoops, this should be a reply to smartkid1985.

  • Ohh! youre right!, because there is a I-495 in Maine! Thanks Coredesat!

  • Like Cordesat said, 3-digit interstate numbers are allowed to repeat as long as they aren't within the same state. So thats what youve been trying to say when you said it does not enter MD it won't violate any numbering rules.

  • and theres a I-270 in either missouri or ohio

  • Both, and don't forget Colorado (Denver)

  • interesting.

  • actually in route logs it is unmarked 695. Freewayjim is right because it doesn't enter maryland at all so it follows the rules. 395 also enters dc and there is another in balitmore. same thing there.

  • The one with the the metal fence. It was known as the Robert J (Bob) Heittman Memorial Bridge.

  • That would be the I-95 Southbound Ramp

  • Did you know that one the flyovers in the Springfield interchange is named?

  • No I did not, which ramp and who's it named after?

  • I would like it if you did New York City next year. I-95, I-78, I-87, I-278, I-278 and I-495 would make good videos.

  • So would I!

  • Great video! I love the DC area! I'm 16 and got a real driving experience when I went up to DC this past Christmas and got stuck in traffic on the beltway on my way to Tysons Corner. Can't wait to see the videos you got of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project and Tysons (assuming you went to these places!

  • I do have WW Bridge footage, I am out of commission for a few months though as my house had a fire and my iMac got zapped & fried, I have the footage on tape thankfully and on an External HDD (if that is'nt fried)

  • That really sucks. I hope that you get everything back in order soon.

  • Thanks, much appreciated. The External HDD is fine so as soon as I replace the PC and get the home back in order, the videos will resume!

  • Sorry to hear your house had a fire, Jim. Hopefully your house only suffered minimal damage, if any.

  • There was moderate damage and alot of fried electronics :(

  • No problem, fellow roadgeeks gotta stick together and show love to one another.

  • this video brings back memories of when i used to take that same highway to school....ah, the good ol days.

  • That stub end/ghost underpass on the SE freeway is interesting. I didn't know that drivers could continue under the Pennsylvania Avenue bridge because I had seen some detailed pictures of that interchange and saw two "do not enter" signs upon the entry of the road. Nice video though, Baltimore also has an extensive history of canceled freeways as well.

  • The roads under the Pennsylvania Avenue bridge are used mainly for RFK Stadium events, I thought it was pretty neat to get it on film.

  • people still go thru there

  • Another great video fwj. I am not sure how you found DC with so little traffic, that shall remain a mystery.

  • Traffic was very heavy coming up I-95 in VA, we tried to film it but it just wasn't worth it. Traffic on the beltway near I-270 was pretty bad as you'll see in the next video and it was bad from I-495 east to I-95 in MD. I was shocked at how light downtown DC traffic was.

  • Wasn't the whole Springfield interchange reconstructed like a year or 2 ago? At least that's what I thought I heard about this interchange.

    Anyway, awesome video as usual.

  • Ooops, actually was the one to make that comment....

  • Yes, it was completed last year I believe after about 6-8 years of construction.

  • Damn, the Springfield Interchange is truly impressive. I need to head up there sometime soon, it's been years since I've been on I-395.

Another great video, and awesome music choice! It's a shame they haven't bothered signing I-695, though.

  • Thanks! You'll get to see the Springfield Interchange from a different direction in the next video.

  • I've never been to Washington DC, but I may go in the future sometime. Good job.

  • It's worth seeing.

  • Great Job Jim!!! You gotta love the music!!!!

  • Lol, typical of Atlanta drivers, too. You and I can attest to that, lol.

  • I'm mad at the jackass that cut left in front of you for no reason. Anyway, good video, Jim.

  • It's a typical DC driver, thanks!
