My older brother got me into the Pistols' music when I was a little kid. Later on when I first heard Dookie by Green Day, I immediately recognized the Sex Pistols influence. This cover makes perfect sense to me. Both are very legit bands.

Would have been good had (a) they not shortened the song and (b) made the snide comment after the song about doing it better than the Pistols did after their reunion. Green Day may be popular and may have sold many more records and got a lot more radio play than the Pistols ever did, but in a history book of rock and roll, Sex Pistols would get a chapter, Green Day a footnote. Sad part is I liked GD early in their career.

Exactly, if you listen to Basket Case's simple drumming, good simple tunes - and pretty much anything in Dookie - you can see how their influence comes from bands like the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones.. and not NOFX or hardcore punk. At first, I only liked Basket Case but started to listen to one song after another on the Dookie album and I found that almost all of them sounded good.

My older brother got me into the Pistols' music when I was a little kid. Later on when I first heard Dookie by Green Day, I immediately recognized the Sex Pistols influence. This cover makes perfect sense to me. Both are very legit bands.

Look up the lyrics for the song "Know it all" by Lagwagon and that will explain what happens to most 90 punk bands, such as Green Day.

Would have been good had (a) they not shortened the song and (b) made the snide comment after the song about doing it better than the Pistols did after their reunion. Green Day may be popular and may have sold many more records and got a lot more radio play than the Pistols ever did, but in a history book of rock and roll, Sex Pistols would get a chapter, Green Day a footnote. Sad part is I liked GD early in their career.

Exactly, if you listen to Basket Case's simple drumming, good simple tunes - and pretty much anything in Dookie - you can see how their influence comes from bands like the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones.. and not NOFX or hardcore punk. At first, I only liked Basket Case but started to listen to one song after another on the Dookie album and I found that almost all of them sounded good.
