Not too bad...for someone not brougth up so far away from the lands where Bulería sounds as it is..
But why listen this man por bulerias when you can go listen to thousand of guys better than him in Spain... I mean not even going to the level of great masters as Morao, Tomate, Paco de Lucia, Manolo SAnlucar ...any young gutar player of Jerez is better than him...
buleria is rather simple .. decent technique, but they really messed up the sound. I've expected much more from GK. Maybe they should stick to Rumbas :)
Why they're ruining the Flamenco sound by playing Bulerias with this rock-electric sounding guitar?!! I like Gypsy kings, but not for playing Flamenco. I can live with them playing Rumba, but not Bulerias, specially with that guitar! They should let the great Flamenco players like Paco, Vicente, and Tomatito play Bulerias!
@Caminante29 aha! what I said is pick up a guitar and show him how it should be done ;) if you can't, let it go. A guy like that knows how to choose his guitar. Get better speakers for your computer; there is nothing wrong with his guitar.
@Fussinated well, that is not even the point. can you imagine that someone like Tonino Baliardo picks a plastic guitar to play in a concert? of course the sound is electronically enhanced -- as a matter of fact it's not, he just has a mic attached to the guitar. I just hate it when people look for the first opportunity to throw shit at a guy like that. I suspect because he is a gypsy. The best musicians are gypsies.
Well, that's exactly the point. Because it is not about the guitar, it's not about the guitarist. It is about the sound set set up. Before you start hating, try to understand what is said. If any shit is thrown at it is thrown to the guy who set up the sound.
Now, look at the concert area. There is no set up for echo. It is full of trees that would soak up the sound. To compansate this sound guy should do necessary adjustment. Looks like he didnt
Well, it's exactly the point. Actually, Neither, Tonino'a talent, nor him being gypsie are not the points.
Look closely to the concert area. It is open and surrounded with trees. It is the sound technicians responsibility to compansate the lack of missing echo since trees will soak up the sound. It looks like technician while elecctronically enhancing the sound failed to do a better job.
Don't assume things, and understand well what is said.
@Fussinated I don't think you understand. The clip gets the sound feed straight from the guitar, not from the speakers. That is, do not get the same sound that is heard by people across the water, so the trees have no impact in the sound. Anyway, let's just drop it. My original point was "if you can make it better then pick up a guitar and show us how it's supposed to be done; if not, what's the point in?" I'm done with this futile argument.
No, I think you don't understand. No one is making a comment over Tonino or his talents, or even his hearing abilities. How can the clip gets the feed from the guitar directly?
OK, I don't have the set up to show you but on you tube if you look for Paco de Lucia concerts for example. The open air ones will provide the necessary answer. Because, some are bad some are good.
Now, you should drop it, with your racist prejudice.
@Fussinated dude! this is not recorded with a handycam by someone in the audience. this is a professional recording probably by a tv station. anyway.
as for my prejudice, you are an idiot (and I'm not making any prejudgments here, it's clear you are from the conversation). I was defending Tonino because the guy that actually started this made a remark about the sound and I told him to piss off because there is nothing wrong with the sound.
@guristu I don't care what you were discussing with the other guy. I state my observation. But when it comes to that you seem to be unable to register what I am talking about.
1- You say that Tonino wouldn't possibly be playing a lower grade guitar. I agree.
2- The other guy says the sound is crappy. I agree.
Given these I am trying to find to explain this. The only thing I can come with is the sound set up of the concert. If you don't agree that's fine. Yet, you made some racist remarks
@guristu >> which my comment had nothing to do with that.
To where I stand, Tonino is not even in need of being defended, along with his music. If you want to defend the sound technician of this set up, why you keep on bringing Tonino in your conversation with me? Recorded professionally or not the sound is not right, notonly for this song but all of the concert the sound is not right. There are many Gypsie Kings vidoes on you tube. Did you see anywhere else such a complaint? If not you better
@Fussinated dude! get a grip! get a life! go to school! go to work! read a book! this was started by someone else a month ago! I know how and when Tonino needs to be defended and from whom. From idiots like you who think they know how music is supposed to sound. SHUT THE FUCK UP! GET A LIFE!
After all the comments and opinions that you may have about this "bulerias" He still the Maestro!!!!! Claro que todos tenemos nuestras propias opiniones acerca de este video estemos de acuerdo o no en como lleva el ritmo, compas, afinado o desafinado o lo que sea.....Pero siempre sera el Maestro...!!!! Gipsy Kings !!!!! Tonino Maestro !!!! thanks for posting ....
@gitanomixtecflamenco this is a truly wonderful performace and great musicians. But I think that a classical guitar should not use direct amplification, the sound of the guitar is not at its best, too many snaps, cracks and pops, whereas with a guitar played naturally in front of a high quality microphone is much better. I prefer Paco De Lucia live recording of Buleria, its much cleaner and played much better I think. BUt I do not fault anyone here for their playing, Gypsy Kings are amazing.
@cormackjames Don't take me wrong, I'll respect your opinion thought. But I do not agreed with you . And sure I like Paco De Lucia but I prefer Gipsy Kings and Tonino {EL MAESTRO} Baliardo !!!
The guitar is a little out of tune, this happens when you play outdoors sometimes. It is hard to play flamenco on a guitar like that, you lose a lot of the feeling. Baliardo is a good guitarist and has good technique, but this is not his best for sure. Even a lot of the chords he uses I don't really think are suited to Bulerias. Then again, maybe that's just his own style coming through.
-yes, the vibration from the body can let your strings ring by themselfs. But do minimize the overall feedback they put a piece of plastic in the hole (one i saw a player who put a crumpled plasticbag inside his guitar).
Yes, especially if it is cooler. The wood and the nylon strings can expand or contract, depending on the temperature, which will cause the strings to go out of tune. I've played outdoors with a classical guitar and it is sometimes a problem.
damn, his guitar is not even close to flamenco. It has no hole (just notice that the reflection comes from what is supposed to be a hole). it's not even acousic, but purely electric.
ok, you disqualified yourself: that are real accoustic guitars with ther soundhole closed by a plastic-card. Every opening in a guitar body will lead to feedback at high volume. Since there is a piezo pickup in the bridge, the soundhole per se is useless at a live gig.
Ur mistaken rosettenzerrer, I think wilderny has a point there. U C,forget the feedback from the speakers and the hole, there's another feedback on a smaller scale between the strings and the hole that causes the strings to ring on the natural tone deemphasizing the smaller frequencies created by nylon strings that are absoarbed by the wood of the guitar, the result is more flamenco sounding tone. To hear the authentic flamenco tone U can hear Paco de Lucia, Paco Pena, or older gypsy kings'
... music. The feedback that u're talking about can be eliminated by proper stage setting, that simple!!!!
No offence to gypsy king, hell if I didn't like the music then why would I B Cing this, that wouldn't make sense. This is a very good buleria everything is pure flamenco except for the crappy tone, I just can't imagine why they've choosen to use the lousy sound setting?!!
too bad the guitar is not in tune, probably the temperature, but there is no comparison to Paco. I like Tonino but this is his worst perfomance. Out of tune, sorry.
