I lived at SoCal dragstrips beginning in March of 1963 (Lions, Irwindale, OCIR, Pomona in February for the "Big Go West," Fontana and a couple of trips north to Bakersfield ('65 & '67) for the March Smokers' Meet. Front engine top fuelers were the best BUT were always just a heartbeat away from serious trouble. In particular, clutch explosions were always catastrophic and many great drivers in the 60's lost their lives including Mike Sirokin, John Mulligan, Pete Robinson and many many more.
This was at Cruisin Grand Nitro night in Escondido, CA back in 2006 I think. I was there and got some great photos of the cars. Cant' wait to see them again this year.
I HATE START-UP VIDEOS THAT THE CAR IS ALREADY STARTED!

The older Style digger type Rails are the ones to watch, they have a sound and quality that the present stuff dont have,
Ill take a 392 Hemi over one of the 500 donovan's anytime,
