i reckon cliffs of dover sum this lesson up perfectly. Just constantly referencing the same melodies some an octave up or slightly changed. The best melodies are the ones u listen to the whole song hoping it will happen again.
hey dave, great videos. so we can take some intervals from a scale and make it into a melody? can we also use chord tones to make a melody? can anyone answer my questions? Thanks.
I have been stressing out with chord sequences and riffs for a long time...I can honestly say this vid completely opened my eyes to the creation of music!
Thank you so much!
Totally awesome your in Vais band btw, didn't read that til later on
excellent lesson dave. question: do u live in a house or an apartment/townhome? i ask this because i was curious if the neighbors might get upset with the loud guitars. kind of a dumb question.
But i thought we had to first come up with the harmony prior to the melody.. and that it was easier... is it??? and if we come up with the melody first how do we figure the harmony..??!
Recently Ive been practicing to a metronome, practicing sweeps and stuff, but the faster I get at playing the guitar the less I enjoy it. The best music really is the simplest music.
i want your fender!

Hey Dave, what kind of picks do you use? I thought you used Jazz III but it looks like you have a big red one there.

Sounds cool, the finger picking on strat is rather reminiscent of early dire straits.

Really good video, slow and easy; But I'm pretty sure this is how to build a melody..?
Anyway, I wonder what if you have the melody in your head, but can't get it out on the guitar? How/what should I do? Any suggestions?

Take a lesson with Dave online?
mmaier2112 2 years ago
I think that you should get software like the EarMaster and practice without a guitar, it's really helpful.

if i have a melody in my head, i normally try to sing it and record it on my pc. from there i can work out what notes to play on guitar.

Learn your intervals, the you will know how to play what you hear in your head.
