  • it while its siting on your table rather than just leaving it in there.... if a static discharge is what you are worried about its the processor that will get damaged any way, not the hard drive (unless its a solid state drive)....to minimize that risk just take out the motherboard system button cell battery , the main battery (of course unplug it too ) and don't stand or work on a carpeted surface (so when you move about you don't generate a static charge)

  • i have an E1705 too ;) any way , why would you take the hard drive out....if your worried about something happening to the data , there is a greater chance of something happening to

  • Every time you asked "Do you see...?", I had to respond, "NO." Too dark.

  • Great instructions but needs more lighting. TY

  • i love dell

  • For the love of god, if your going to shoot a tutorial video on how to do something in which visual aid is necessarily please. oh please use adequate lighting. This is barely useful.

  • Can it work on a Gateway 200stm notebook?/ Because its all like cant even hold the screen and falls? Thanks

  • can't see anything, it's too dark

  • dude...you need a light, A LIGHT!!!

  • same exact laptop as mine :D

  • Why did you have to remove the components that aren't related to your lid?

  • video is good next use better lighting

  • L-1011!!

  • can any one tell me how to repair Dell Lattitude d810 hinges i have damaged my right hing left is fine can anyone guide me repair it i will be very thankfull!!!!

  • lol i have that same laptop

  • Why remove the screen from the body of the laptop? That's a lot of unnecessary work. Just remove the bezel around the screen and tighten the screws. It could also be the screws at the base of the hinge. For that, you would just need to remove the plastic piece above the keyboard, which is very simple.

  • is that a Dell Inspiron E1705? i just got a 1501-a lower end, AMD Version of the E1505.

  • this wont work :( im trying to disconnect the ribbon cable on the keyboard and i CAN'T GET IT OUT (inspiron 1521)

  • nigga i cant see shit!!!

  • @adioo890 LOL

  • take a light before doing video guy ! because we didn't see anything !

  • Is working in the dark a requirement he forgot to mention?

  • Great video though I have an Acer. Btw, you almost sound like Mitch Fatel - the comedian.

  • I leave my Dell Inspiron E1505 on a Table all day, so I just never close it. :D

  • Lol I bet you wiped off that Inspiron logo by using too much isopropyl alohol.

  • I cant see a thing

  • Test

  • When the hinge is not in the laptop...should I be able to open the hinge with my barehands or do the hinges apppear frozen/locked up?

  • When the hinges are not in the laptop...should I be able to open and close them with my bare hands? I've ordered a few sets of hinges and they all appear to be "locked" which is the reason I am replacing mine..it was like frozen...

If anyone knows I would appreciate it. Thanks

  • @UT00ber50 Yes. It takes a lot of force when they're not in.

  • DARK AS FUCK

  • how to tighten acer aspire 4937g laptop lid?

  • @elitelord Not sure, I haven't worked on physically repairing any Acer computers.

  • @banstaman does this work on an inspiron 1521?

  • @elitelord I don't know if you still want this but I have an acer 4920 and I tightened the hinge by screwing in the screws (covered by rubber) around the screen (especially the bottom 2)

  • Will IT WORK ON A DELL inspiron 1525

  • @GalwayChick From what I've been told, it generally does. You should ask @donkashmoney. That person had an Inspiron 1525, and was able to fix their system.

  • @GalwayChick I've got one to and my left hinge keeps unsnapping

  • @GalwayChick yes

  • i'm new to this practical work because i was never taught it in school. when you remove the hardrive, what would cause it to wipe it's data. i'm afraid of removing it for this reason. also, do yo really have to dissemble it all like that just to tighten hinges?

  • Thabks fo rthe tutorial (even if a bit dark!). I managed to follow your instructions to the letter - and I tightened the relevant screws. Alas, the wobble is still there - though the most of the open/close proedure is a bit tighter now. I'm just going to have to live with the wobble + that 'crack' noise as the loose parts slide over each other.

  • thanks banstaman... it worked for my dell d 410.... nice video

  • one SMART IDEA IN THIS VIDEO:

light is sooo good that you cant see any screws or wires he is talking about

  • wow what a boring video.

  • Two things, 1)You sound like Ferris Bueller and 2)Thanks for making your vid in a fuckin cave cause it's so dark I can barely make out what you're doing!

  • Two things, 1)You sound like Ferris Bueller, LOL and 2)Thanks for making your vid in a fuckin cave cause it's so dark I can barely make out what you're doing! Good effort tho, thanks!

  • @banstaman i know mate just souded funny and i rymed

  • " and u mite shave anway the grooves in your scews" lol

  • @BrettFUKD Teehee =) Didn't mean it THAT way.

  • @banstaman not to be mean but can you put more light next time and keep your head out of the way

  • Waaaayyyyy too many usless/pointless steps. If you have something like a e1505, just take off the little cushion things off, unscrew all the screws behind them. Use a little flathead or nail and pry it off. On the bottom you would see the hinge tighten them. Then you take off the panel where your power button is at. You would see a indent where to pry it out on the right. After that you would see the remaining 2 screw to tighten for the hinge. After you tighten them just put it back together....

  • Thank you very much good job its nice to know extras like non specific witch can make things more complicated to label screws

  • i suppose a xps m 1710 is valid for this tut ? they look the same anyways

  • Thank you for taking your time to do this. The video would be better if you had a light on it, but anyone with half a brain, who would attempt this, should know how to remove drives, etc. To all those who had nasty comments, I hope you find happiness. Must be miserable to always be negative.

  • all this to tighten a hinge? fuck that lol

  • get something called a lamp....

  • Agree :-) he did such a detailed work but in dark!!!!!

  • Ya good video but no light :(

  • Would this be possible to do on an Inspiron 6400?

  • Yes, it is a tiny bit different though. There would be fewer screw points.

  • Thanks a lot! :D

  • my hp lasted 6 months. my dell lasted 2 years and counting. remember this wont work for the dell 1520. well it will but there are more wires in the 1520. 2 for the camera 2 for the mic. 2 for the wireless antenna and a ground wire and the plug for the screen. every other step will work fine. Unless your hard drive is in the way... leave it in your laptop. its the safest place for it. nice vid

  • Very good video - you explain very well. It's just a shame about the lighting...

  • too dark man.

  • dude it's too dark....make the video again with more light

  • i dont know why but i dont like dells, or toshiba, i only like acer and hp, all the acers i had not one accident all of them work

  • I'm at the other end of the spectrum. Acer for me, is problems left and right. HP and Dell happen to be my best bet. Depending on the model(s) of course.

  • its too dark u geek

  • i have my 640m for 2 years only. my screen is dark and dell said the LCD screen is gone. they want from $400-500 to replace a new LCD screen. i think that's a lot of money for just a screen. i paid $1300 for this dell and expect it to last for at least more than 2 years. too bad, their salesman did not offered me extra warranty. does anyone have this problem? NO MORE DELL FOR ME FOR SURE...oh yeah, and the hinge like on this video...it sucks...it gets loose very easily!

  • Mine is still rocking it strong. It sucks to hear about yours. You are indeed, better off buying an entirely new system, you can get a hell of a lot more for your money. If it's quality you're looking for, you'd probably want to look more into HP or Lenovo, and DEFINITELY stay away from Acer. Dell just doesn't build em like they used to.

  • i'm thinking about Toshiba but NO acer or Hp for sure. im still using my 640m but have to hook up external monitor to be able to see what's going on. if i can find an lcd screen at a good price. i will try to change it my self. im gonna watch this video and learn. but its too dark, i can hardly see the laptop.

  • you can buy a laptop with that money :O,

  • Comment removed

  • @1backstab @ 8:18 is where i get lost my screen sticks on the left side i unscrew it but the left side wont come out

  • @1backstab o i found it i had an additional screw holding the hinge on

  • BANNEY I LOVE U

  • I hearts.

  • HOLY SHIT..how lucky of me to have the same laptop as you omg TYY!!

  • bad lighting

  • i feel like i learned how to dismantle my laptop from head to toe

...jesus....i thought this would be a short and easy process. guess not.

  • yes , you may have a point but not all laptop have screws from where the screen is attached to the hard drive !

  • How do you use laptop if you dont have power supply for light in your area ??????

  • wtf bro...remake this with lighting

  • :( it's too dark

  • at times it's so dark, all i see is pitch black. nice tut, but could've been done in half the time.

  • good instructions, but turn on a freaking light!

  • mate! you're the health and safety superman! very very well done!

  • Why thank you!

  • Great intentions but WAY too involved! Here's the short w/ the same result. > Remove trim piece (the one w/ the pwr button on it) as he shows. >Remove screws on bottom of screen trim as he shows. ONLY the bottom screws! >Pry trim piece off using small flat head and common sense. >Tighten 4 screws total that fasten hinges. 2 on top, 2 on bottom. >Reassemble and close screen. >There are two screws on the BACK of the laptop covered by black stickers. Remove the stickers and tighten screws. >DONE!

  • thanks for putting this together, but it is really too dark. you might consider recording it again with the lights on so people can actually see what you're doing.

  • Turn on a fucking light next time you do a video.

  • Thanks for the detailed explanation - it worked perfectly!

  • at least yours was still attached. my sony vaio actually broke off from one side, it is now being held up by the wires and the other side. scheduled for repair collection on monday.

  • I tightened my laptop hinges a few days ago it was starting to become wobbly, all i done was removed the strip at the top of the keyboard and tightened the screws, done :)

  • yay, thanks! i just did the abbreviated version of this (only removing the hinge cover and plastic bevel, supporting the laptop screen on a book so it was level). it worked perfectly for my inspiron 6000. as it turns out, one of my hinges had come completely unscrewed from the screen. (so *that's* why there was a horrible crack in the side of the screen with black metal showing, and the screen was totally loose...) now hopefully i can get another year out of my dying laptop!

  • Does this void your warranty?

  • In some brands... Yes.

  • Well, the brand is obviously Dell... but the author of the video already answered my question...

  • Yeah, I have no idea why so much work went into this. All that's required to tighten your hinge screws is to: 1) Remove the hinge cover (the strip of plastic with the power button on it) then 2) remove the plastic bevel (top plastic LCD casing) like he demonstrated at the end.

From there, you can tighten the hinge screws on each side of the bottom edge (2 screws on each side). No offense intended, but you put way more work into this than is actually required.

  • oh yes ! I tried it as you said and it worked! thanks man!

  • I'm glad I read your comment first, and had already taken my laptop apart in the past so I understood what you were saying, fixed my monitor in 3 minutes ...feels good to fix stuff yourself!

  • Does this work with the new Dell Laptops, like the inspiron 1525?

  • No, you cannot. They have different designs, and you might end up damaging something.

  • Actually buddy i used your video as a guidline worked perfectly for my laptop and its a new model Inspiron 1525. So Thanks!

  • I can't see shit!

  • me 2

  • why did he take so much apart, all i did was take the screws out from around the screen and pull the plastic far enough away to get the driver on the screws to tighten them. he must not have a girlfriend and has too much time on his hands

  • I have a girlfriend, and I have limits of time for myself. As I said before, the reason I took a lot out, was because I am clumsy and I might damage it myself. What others need to do to get to it quicker can be done, in this case, you just took out the screws.

  • I ended up putting a a bit of loctite threadlocker on the 2 internal screws that hold the hinge to the display screen...hopefully I never have to tear everything apart again now. Dell hinges suck. But thanks for this vid, really helped me out

  • dude you need more light i cant see shit

  • the vagina wants what the vagina wants

  • Was there even a vagina in this video? Oh hey guess what? VAGINA JUICE!

  • o hey srry bout tht... nice vid btw.

    -the vagina man

  • Would you recommened putting some loc-tite on the 3 hinge screws so they never loosen every again? I want to just do this once and never again have to take my computer apart. I've already sent it away to Dell once to get the hinges tightened, but now my warranty has run out so I have to do this myself..

  • Well if you want to, give it a try and tell us how things work!

  • banstaman, you are BRILLIANT! Thank you!

I had an issue with my right hinge on a e1405 being loose, so I just tightened the two screws right next to the hinge labeled 2 and 3. They are visible once you take off the plastic gray strip across the top of the keyboard. But on the e1405, it's necessary to remove two screws that are holding the strip on, otherwise it won't come off.

  • Thanks, I am glad to know this helped! On another note, thank you for pointing that out! I haven't worked with an E1405 nor an E1505, I believe the E1505 is the same process, but thanks for noting the screws on the E1405.

  • Yeah, I had an E1705 and I tightened the screen but the problem only came back after a week or so, eventually the screen itself started malfunctioning.

  • Oh like, did the Wires strip or anything?

  • It works, but you are wrong in your description, it usually varies with who has the better hinges, Dells take about a couple tens to a hundreds of thousands of cycles before loosening, same with acer. HP, forget it 250 is the most you are going to get!

  • ....Ok my hinge got loose, so what I did, what everybody should do, I sent my notebook to Dell and the fixed it and sent it back

  • Well, some people have had their warranties expired, and may be expensive to repair, talking about $300 or so! I mean yes, it is the best thing to do if you are still under warranty, but sometimes Dell can see this as "Wear and Tear" damage, which is not covered by stock warranty, so...

  • my hinges got stuck and the cover wont close

  • Perhaps it is not latched in, because on the left hinge, there is an extra "tail" on the hinge that goes into a slit to lock the hinge to the base, perhaps that is your problem.

  • just that the hinges dont turn, even if i remove them and try turning it with my hands, they just dont swivel anymore, this just happen suddenly, as they were ok the day before

  • Well I mean you cannot turn the hinges by hand, I have tried so, many times before. Well I have no clue at all about how and why they wouldn't budge, are you still under waranty? Your problem can pass for parts and craftsmanship faulty.

  • this would have been a lot more useful to me if it wasnt so freakin dark

  • Or so I have noticed!

  • I can't see anything AT ALL!

  • So sorry about that!

  • It gets better. I went ahead and cleaned my keyboard. I was afraid to take that top latch off, which is above the keyboard. Is it necessary to get rid of the HD and the wireless cords as well?

  • Yes it is necessary because this process shakes the system around a lot, and taking off the wireless cords is necessary because you cannot take the screen off without taking off the cords.

  • Because by the time you need to tighten it, you're laptop is already out of date (unless you like opening and closing your notebook a lot). And if a loose hinge bothers you, I'm sure an out of date computer would tick you off more...

  • Even still after 3 years a Dell has not even lost 10% of its value, so it wouldn't necessarily be out of date, maybe if you have XP.

  • it's so dark

  • But I wouldn't recommend tightening it...

  • Why wouldn't you recommend tightening it Ryan?

  • This does not void your warranty.
