The Librarian ( A Forerunner) wanted to activate the Halo Array in order to stop the Flood from devouring the whole galaxy. But Didact (a commander in the Forerunner military) was against the idea as he believed that activation of the Halo Array would mean a mass genocide on a galactic scale. When Mendicant Bias became rampant and joined the Flood, Didact knew he had no choice but to fire the Array.

The flood in halo 1 were released from containment by the covenant on installation 04.

No, guys here's the truth: Humans and the Prophet speices were allies a couple thousands years before the construction of the Halo rings. They encountered the Flood and managed to drive them out of the galaxy mostly b/c of the humans. However, a war between the Humans and the Forerunners later destroyed any way of defeating the Flood since the humans were basically sent back to the Stone Age. So then a couple thousands years later the Forerunners basically forget the war they had with humanity.
The Forerunners were the ones that you saw in the video, they basically destroyed themselves in order to save Humanity. Humans are Reclaimers, which is why the Covenant was killing us, they knew we were chosen and they weren't. So in order to prevent the Covenant from falling apart, the Prophets ordered Humanity's extinction.
Also, the Precursors came before the Forerunners. So to narrow it down it goes:

Read halo cryptum, they're not humans. Because of the humans previous technological expertise (before they were devolved by forerunners after the forerunner/human war) the forerunners thought they were best to be second in command to take care of the Mantle, thus the best choice to take over in case the flood wiped them out, but this decision was that of the librarian's, not the forerunner population, as they were strictly making sure humans would not regain their previous strength.

Read halo cryptum, they're not humans. Because of the humans previous technological expertise (before they were devolved by forerunners after the forerunner/human war) the forerunners thought they were best to be second in command to take care of the Mantle, thus the best choice to take over in case the flood wiped them out, but this decision was that of the librarian's, not the forerunner population, as they were strictly making sure humans would not regain their previous strength.

If Mendicat Bias ( 0:43 ) Didn't help the Flood the Forerunners may stood a chance but Mendicat Bias was a powerfull AI capable of controlling Fleets at once , It was still nice the Forerunners sacrified them selvs for other races :)

Nice vid but it dosent tell much of the story , heres a quick resume : A long time ago even before the Forerunners , the Precursors existed , When the Forerunners were born they made a whole wide empire that took control of the Galaxy , The Precursors technologies were more advanced then the Forerunners but the forerunners outnmberd them and won the war, Before all the precursors died , they left a gift that was capable of destroying all life forms in the galaxy even the forerunners: The Flood

@ZOOLESTER I think what he's trying to say is that the Humans are the closest living biengs to the forerunners (as in similar genes) and thats why only forerunners and Humans can activate halo arrays and no other race that we know of from the game...

@ZOOLESTER the forerunners were a whole nother specis they were more advanced then humans and when the flood came the saved embrios form all the specis they could and used the halos to try and kill the flood but it didnt not work, in comparison humans 5 ft 6in on average the forerunners were about 15ft the, only reason humans ccan use the forerunner tech is bacause they were cosen to be the reclamers

@ZOOLESTER actually the forerunner were a different race from either of them. genetically humans were to forerunners as monkeys are to humans. which is why humans are able to use and control forerunner artifacts but not other alien races

Forerunners and humans evolved seperately, the humans went to war with the Forerunners and we were blasted back into the Stone Age. Go read Cryptum, the Forerunners were created by the Precursors to inherit their Mantle when they left the galaxy.

@tonekai The Forerunner only started to become wiser when the Flood began tearing down their empire, they realised what they did to the humans was wrong and (looking back on the potential Ancient Humans had) saw their former enemies as special, the worthy inheritors of the Mantle.

firing of the rings, the ancient humans had actually been a powerful space-faring empire that was smaller but equal in power to the forerunners, the forerunners fought a war with them.

@AlphaX500 They exploited a loophole in the Mantle which basically allowed them to justify removing any race that might contest their power, after Ancient Humanity was weakened by their war with the Flood the Forerunners attacked them, humanity lost and was devolved back into the Stone Age.

@tonekai In halo Cryptum the Humans are fairly looked down upon by Forerunners. Forerunners also have a difficult time fitting armor on humans since humans have a different skin texture. They are rather mushy compared to the Forerunners scaly skin.

@tonekai if the book on the forerunners is counted, humans were not forerunners. the forerunners believed that the humans could have been a evolution or something of them one time but the forerunners always degrading the gen. of the other lower species. the librarian class of forerunner did the degrading, though i think that the forerunners would regret it in the new book of the series sense few of the forerunners know the truth. though i'm not going to say sense it's a spoiler to the book.

@tonekai humans were not forerunners. The forerruners had actually adopted the human race as their predecessors therefore rendering all access to their technology to the humans. Perhaps it was because the human race showed bravery or whatever the forerruners liked about them.
In fact before the forerunner-flood war, humanity was on an equal technological level as the forerunners and even invented a cure for the flood

@NATHANBARLOWXD I think you won´t get a safe answer for this. But ... i´ve read about that the humans (today´s) and the San Shyuum (the holy prophets) had the same ancestors. So, the Forerunners were no humans, but they were the guys who cloned themself and made a race, today called "humans" (and another, called "San Shyuum")
