I know what you mean. When I got back; never went home to even visit family. I survived, many didn't. Finally went home last year to my home town. What I knew is all gone after 40 years; but I had to do it.
I don't guess, I know they deserve a tribute. I agree with you questioning solving the world's problems with arms. The atrocities were also from a lack of training for junior officers on maintaining moral under the situations created by the green machine. I mean you have a bunch ofclose friends, and the same group is always coming up and killing one or setting traps and killing another without a way to strike back at the killer.

If anyone deserves blame for the Vietnam War, it's LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON. He and his cronies were responsible for STARTING and escalating the war which reached it's height between 1965-69. Richard Nixon deserves blame too for his slow and delayed withdrawal, only because he wanted the US to leave the war with a strong face, not in disarray.
Hippies & Beatniks are such dumb people... The Vietnam Vets have endured more hardship than they'll ever realize. God Bless ALL War Veterans! :)

I guess the vets deserve a tribute. They went through hell because their country 'needed' them. However, I disagree with the reasons Americans were in Nam or in Iraq. Changing the world with arms will backfire most times. It's a huge responsability to be the most powerful one in the world. I hope America will learn lessons from history (English Empire and other European countries). Still, these vets deserve recognition.

Everyone thinks that a soldiers willingness to go to war is to back a political view or to protect freedom and there is no true way of knowing becouse we all joined and deployed for our own reasons. Regardless of political views we still pack our shutes and wait for the green light without hesitation ready to do what we have to do and willing to pay our own price to do it so our loved ones wont be forced too!

We were never attacked by either Vietnam OR Iraq. These were wars of acquisition of land, resources, and power. Vietnam was the most corrupt engagement we've experienced, and much of the suffering of our veterans is from the fact that they knew that. Iraq put our troops doing torture and other disgusting acts. Our vets give their lives. The LEAST we can do is provide a damned good REASON for their sacrifice. We have none in either war.
