Very true; the best way to be safe in a crash is to not be in one.

However, it does help if the safe car is being driven by a person minding his own business when he gets crashed into by the idiot because, after all, accidents do happen no matter what precautions one may take.

You don't have to be responsible for the crash to become involved in one.

  • @Watcher3223

Truth right there. I got t-boned by a drunk driver while I was coming home from work, and I never loved my Volvo as much as I did that night. I got out without a scratch.

  • @Sharkiesteph

I don't doubt that. Good to hear you were not hurt.

  • That was a very good commercial+VoiceOver! I actually thought it was a real commercial! :)

  • wow nice voiceover

  • @Kaixax555

It could have been better. It could have been less "announcery" as a more natural "guy next door" read seems to be the trend with voice overs with commercial type.

    But, thank you.

  • Good song choice!

  • @BlueCollarTweeker

    Thanks. Devo kicks butt.

  • the way he says his s in 0:32 hurts lol

  • @corvetteboy10

Sorry; I recorded the dialog quick and dirty and didn't take the time to sweeten it, including removing excess sibilance on that moment you've specified.

  • @Watcher3223 lol its fine stil liked the video

  • @corvetteboy10 lol ITS A WISSLE!!

  • Wasn't the one at 0:38 is from an old ad where Remy Julien took it off a 2nd or 3rd level of parking lot, then got out, brushed his shoulders and walked away? ;)

  • @JonP1961

Not sure. You may be correct, though.

  • Brick car

  • sorry volvojoakim volvo were not the 1st to invent collision , crumple zones mercedes were, in 1951 not having a pop , just putting a fact across , i do have an s40 great car,

  • @gsg9angel

This is correct: Mercedes Benz invented crumple zones.

  • This is quite good!

  • To whom are you replying to?

    Just curious.

  • Sorry, my mistake, I commented on the wrong video, as I had two windows open at the same time, cheers.

  • @devo4g63

No prob. We all make mistakes.

  • Nicely edited but not realistic. Although Volvo do put a lot of emphasis on the "safety" of their cars, they would never want consumers seeing them smashed up or otherwise compromised in any form.

  • I don't know about that.

Volvo DID have commercials that showed exactly that: Volvo cars being smashed up.

In fact, here's one such commercial on YouTube:

    watch?v=EZd9k_5nOYY

  • And here's another one:

    watch?v=LLj_bPsl7ZQ

This one is hosted by Volvo Cars themselves on YouTube.

  • Nice to see your ignorance on the web.

Volvo actually have lots of commercials showing their safety, as it was the safety they sold cars for. Always have, always will.

Look it up before you post.

  • @VolvoJoakim

Aside from the fact that successful crash tests show how safe the car is, implying that showing a "compromised" car in an effort to show the efficacy of the occupant protection systems is akin to saying that you don't want seat belts because they imply that cars are unsafe.

  • @VolvoJoakim

I re-read my post and I'm appalled that I had written it as incomplete.

The implication that a crashed car compromises its image, despite the reason for showing such a crash is to advertise the efficacy of the car's safety systems, is akin to suggesting that seat belts are bad as they may imply that cars are unsafe.

  • Well, now Volvo was one of the first with seatbelts in front and rear, and it was Volvo that developed the 3-point belts. Volvo also was the first cardeveloper to put 2-point and 3point belts in the rear.

They also was one of the first to come out with collision-zones (140-series)

Volvo has always fronted safety, and seat-bealts are also safety, it's not implying that cars are unsafe - they are there to protect you against human errors ;) Hehe.

I'm not english, so excuse my french. :)

  • @VolvoJoakim

I'm not disputing Volvo's safety innovations, including their contributions to the development of modern seat belts.

I was just stating an analogy.

I am aware that you did reply to someone else; I was just adding to your comment.

  • my reply was not aimed for you. I wrote a new long reply, but that got fucked up. I hate youtube-comments at times!

  • you should try to do this for a living. I would have thought for certain that this was a real commercial had I not read the comments and description beforehand.

  • whoa. I thought that was a real commercial. then I read the description and now I have a question. Do you do this for a living?? that was a spectacular job you did.

  • I wish I was doing this for a living. I did this for practice and to see what the reaction would be.

  • wow. that's crazy. 8D

  • I am sorry, but I do not understand Japanese.

    日本語がわかりません ごめんなさい

  • @Watcher3223

Jag är ledsen att jag inte förstår engelska

  • @PrettyBrg

I believe you do understand English, especially as your own uploads on your account suggest that this is so.

  • @Watcher3223

    Ahaha you caught me 0.0

  • nice!!!

  • yes, an srs airbag only provides ADDITIONAL protection with your seatbelt.

It does not replace the need to wear one.

  • And, SRS stands for "Supplemental Restraint System."

Another acronym for airbags is SIR for "Supplemental Inflatable Restraint."

The operative word here is "supplemental," meaning that the airbag supplements the primary occupant protection devices in the vehicle. Supplemental devices, by their very nature, are never meant to take the place of the primary devices.

Hence, why air bags do not "replace the need" to wear a seat belt.

  • really nice video!!

  • great job! I thought it was a real commercial until I read the description.

  • That's, perhaps, the best compliment I've ever received.

    Thank you.

  • Fantastic!

  • yeah and i could tell my sister to wear a seat belt and she doesnt so what can you make safer a person or a car

  • Both.

Although the safety systems can't work to save a person if he/she won't use them, the safety systems also must be designed and built properly so, when the person does use them and is in the event that he/she needs them, the systems will do their job rather than fail.

  • ok well i scared my sister soo much when i drove she finnaly put on her set belt and i was pissed with her because if she lived in a crash she would may have brain damages

  • Great video dude

  • I had a neighbor that lived 20 meters from me when I was younger. He had a quite modern car (late 90s, about 10 years ago).

His car had ABS, Airbag+++, but one day, he was at a party and he drunk drove home.

He didn't drive fast, but he wasn't wearing a seat belt, so what happened is that his neck broke, due to the airbag squeezing him up on the roof.

  • And that's why:

    1. You should never drive drunk.

    2. You should always wear your seat belt.

Airbags are a supplemental restraint, so they are never meant to take the place of your primary restraint devices: seat belts. Without the seat belts to keep you restrained and in an optimal position for the air bag to yield benefits, the air bag can cause severe injuries.

You have to remember that when air bags deploy, they must do so explosively in order to inflate fast enough to be of any value.

  • And, I am very sorry to hear of your friend's tragic misfortune.

All I can say is that you have to learn from it so you won't make the same mistake.

My apologies for saying this but it was fortunate that he did not involve anyone else in his crash from his decision to drive while intoxicated, for others and also for him.

The consequences could have easily been more severe in that situation.

  • Volvos are fantastic. They certainly have their priorities in the right order.

  • Amazing! I Love It. Keep up the good work!

  • DE-VO on VOL-VO !
