  • How I didn't know this! I'm gonna rent this movie right now to my kids!

  • @ivanpb1983 It's pretty cool.

  • religion is a load of crap. There is no god.

  • i was 10 wen i saw the movie and i didn't get the message or point of atheism or Christianity so if they "tried" to send a message it failed cmon who else didnt get it

  • "he's been known to be pushing on kids for a long time" unfortunately for kids, he's not the only one

  • Wow I guess the bible has all the answers in till you read the old shit

  • The brain explains free will. And I have never heard an atheist say "Science can prove everything."

  • Wow, what a rude little tv host. And they pair her against a "father?" How about just a regular interview where they ask her questions?

And she was clearly nervous. Did they get the worst person to ask about this on purpose?

There's no such thing as "militant atheism." A movie is not a military agenda, so they can shove it. The religious people who think its great a thing don't have to go see the movie, simple as that. What they WANT is to stop movies like this from even being made.

  • So thats why they never made the trilogy, the US is hilarious!

  • the burden proof is on atheists????!!! LMAO..... OHAHAHOHHOH somebody hold me back im gonna tackle that guy

  • I don't know why good folks like Annie Laurie waste their time accepting these interviews. They get limited to no air time and have a bunch of words shoved in their mouths.

I also believe that anyone who wants to discuss the Pullman books has to read them first. While not exactly praising religeous power structures, the whole series is not really a promo for atheism - especially the first one and especially as portrayed in the film.

    Gimme a break!

  • By the way, the only themes in the books they attack are its anti religious themes. They don't talk about the loss of innocence or the doctrine of the church, they just say "I find it insulting and disturbing. Make it go away." Their not even trying to understand the books.

  • The His Dark Materails trilogy is speaking the truth. The Catholic Church is basically like Nazi germany, only it is smart enough to span its crimes over a long period of time. Watch Doug Stanhope on hating the Jews, "The Nazis got their ass handed to them after 12 years but the catholic church has murdered and tortured for centuries." Speaking of hating jews, the cahtolic church has preached anti semitism in the past. If there is a devil on earth its either the dark lord cheiney or the pope.

  • I find it funny how the movie portrayed Christians in a certain way then the far right went straight ahead and reinforced what was written about them. Still not the stupidest thing I've heard the church do.

  • @ColdLance you'd think they might learn the greater the attack the greater the box office.

  • Fuck Fox news

  • Why does the priest so angry?

  • All that Fox wants is a living straw man. I respect any atheist willing to put up with such bullshit in order to get a word in here or there.

  • To paraphrase Richard Dawkins, children are incapable of these concepts. There are simply children of Catholic parents or children of Muslim parents. The default position on religion when you are born is atheist. I was indoctrinated from the time I was young to my early twenties. Then agnostic for a decade while I figured it all out. Then atheist and finally Humanist. Children should be given the tools and be coercion free when making these decisions. I regret not being able to myself.

  • you get the last word due to respect what the fuck happened to america

  • Wow let her talk for f*ck's sake

  • Wow let her talk for fuck's sake

  • religion sucks and if you are a choir boy it sucks literally and its also a pain in the ass.

  • dude......that priest is gay lol

  • keep that fag preist away from the alter boys

  • Euugh! What a revolting priest! I think he must be the Catholic churches answer to scientologies David Miscavige. He creeps enough to be a good advert against the church. On a more serious note: a simple answer would be to force kids to learn about both atheism and theism at school. Then at least neither side could whinge about it. Also, I think Catholic priests should be kept away from children.

  • @27182818R nah he is a troll. a Real life troll.

  • I'm proud to be an atheist and a member of Freedom from Religion Foundation. Notice that the priest was not characterized as a "militant" Catholic. Fox-- fair and balanced!

  • Let her talk you douche

  • How come debaters are never sharp enough to inform religious people that what ever good religious people do,it has nothing to do with proving god exist

  • 2:20 Yes religion has been a source of peace, serenity, happiness; pain, anguish, holy war, death camps, book burning, witch burning (really fucking stupid), loss of freedoms and rights especially for women, imprisonment and persecution torture and hanging/burning of non-believers, and holding back our scientific development for hundreds of years. Thank you so much religion for everything you have done for us. :P

  • We atheist and non-belivers are right behind Islam in numbers.

  • I've seen the movie. How in the hell is it promoting atheism?

    Good movie!

  • typical cooked up FOX controversy

  • For people who hold so much power the world, they can't even deal with a MOVIE that challeges there worldview ,it's really quite sad and patheitic, it's not about the children, it's about control , if kids actually looked at religion without the bias of "hell or else" they would see the illogical and upsurd nature of it.

  • I'm pretty sure that in a debate the moderator has the obligation to remain non-biased. This reporter is an asshole. "you make such a ridiculous and stupid statement... that you lose credibility" and then at the end he says "I also respect your believes as well Ms. Gaylor". Bullshit.

And the priest doesn't use logic... "if all the catholic hospitals and schools went under... our health care system would go under with it" No moron, they would simply become regular hospitals and schools.

  • This priest is so obviously gay.

  • This father is so full of crap! Back with the burden of proof again, when will these people join the real world.

So it is alright to have movies promoting religion, but not the other way around?

    What are they scared of?

  • i love how they call it a "nicole kidman" movie. don't dumb it down for me, i know it's called THE GOLDEN COMPASS with daniel craig, nicole kidman, and dakota blue richards in it

  • Yeah right. Christianity is peaceful *cough*warsexecutionmurderbigotry*cough* and atheists are militabt *cough*donatemoretocharitymakemoreadvancementsexceptintheweaponryfield*cough*

  • pretty horse shit journalism here...

  • "Hang on a second, one more question for father, I want to be fair here."......... Does he even know the meaning of "fair"?

  • Christianity has way too much power. I am an atheist and love being so and I answer all the questions about religion that my children and I don't lie. Neither one of them seem interested in trying out religion but they do enjoy questioning it and discovering for themselves everything wrong with it.

  • She should have walked off the set.

  • Christianity was once shunned upon, now it is taking over the world and the minds of little childen who do not understand religion but are forced into Religion and Church.

  • She wasn't even given a good chance to speak, they'd just bring up other points before she could talk on the given subject. It's so unfair.

  • "For billions of people, religion has been a source of peace".

    LOWUT??

  • Look I am a LCMS lutheran and I don't agree with the papacy. But that doesn't mean Christ is not true. Christianity is take it or leave it. That is we Christians present our faith and let the individual decide to follow. I believe in freedom and responsibility and with that the RC has gone against the Gospel and terrible things have happened. But in the end all you can do is have faith in what ever it is you believe and try to run to the truth.

  • "the burden of proof rests on the atheist" - mwahaha

Ooops... God "heard" me typing this message and sent a tropical storm to Miami!!!

  • "the burden of proof rests on the atheist" - mwahaha

Ooops... God "heard" me typing this message and sent a tropical storm to Miami!!!

  • Why do atheists attack believers?

  • @Nimzowitz why do believers attack atheists?

  • @theheatofthemoment You're right. It's something we shouldn't do.

  • @Nimzowitz It is fun to attack ungrounded faith based beliefs, We don't attack the believer, we go after the nonsense in his or her head.

  • wow. did he just cut her off at the end? :| what a fucking moron i wanna punch his nose and choke him to death. wait, no i dont - im an atheist.

  • What would America be like if all those people who give 10% of their income to the church, gave that money to Science and Education instead?

  • Omg and i though america was more evolved, guess i'm totally wrong... U guys are too conservative and scared... hate people like that....just keep ur critiscism for ur self !!!!

  • @Meaveroirdan After you stop criticizing us.

    Please do not generalize.

  • 2:14

Look at the paedophile saying that his belief is the source of peace and serenity, while being hysterical! He can not keep his cool!

  • Teach a kid science and history and that's wrong, tell a kid they are going to burn in hell if they don't believe and that's OK.

  • "I also respect your beliefs."

Yeah, he sneered at what she said, he misquoted her and refused to give her the time to correct or clarify her statement, and he let the kidf*cker have the last word. That's the MSM's idea of respect for the beliefs of atheists.

  • This hurts my brain. I can't believe people this dumb exist.

  • I love how they completely trash atheism and then talk about how god is the best and amazing... And then RIGHT after that; they show a tropical storm that probably killed thousands....

    Hmmmmmmm

  • @Ptolmey13

    Nice! You are very perceptive.

  • This video really upsets me.

  • Spanish Inquisition...

  • @grindhiphop Some ahole flagged your post. I wish the flagger had to leave his/her username Moris is a fucking Faux bumboy.

  • FOX SUCKS!

  • Atheists have the burden of prove?

The definition of atheism is a rejection of theistic CLAIMS

Why should atheist have the burden of prove to reject a claim that isnt backed up?

And WHY didn't the host pick up the priest and absurd statements like 'if religion goes down, healthcare goes down', instead attacking the atheist on a misquote?

    Speaks a lot really.

  • Father Morris, go to hell. Mrs. Gaylor, You are awesome!

  • "pushing atheism on kids????"

The christian faith tells children that if they don't believe in god and worship him appropriately, they will be tortured in hell for eternity.

Give me a break...who's pushing who???

  • Fuck this host is a moron. Surprise that we are watching fox. Religions are useless nonsense, and bullshit.

  • Host is a bastar d

  • what a rude host

  • This priest is nauseating and the interviewer is goddamn disgrace.

  • Ah, typical of fox news

  • If you are a true believer, why would your mind be changed by Pullmans books? I read the Narnia chronicles and it did not change my mind :) - I am still an atheist. As for children: Shouldn´t they be allowed to make up their own mind about things? But I would argue that Pullmans books are not really suited for young children, as they are very complex indeed.

  • religion makes people happy? well ignorance is bliss.

  • Does anyone find it strange that the anchor doesn't even try and hide his bias?

  • This is fox "news", I expected nothing less from the idiots there. Do you notice how he gives the priest more time and respect.

  • to Christian rep: your reaction?

to Christian: your counterpart says, and i quote "religion poisons everything" what's your reaction?

to Atheist: here's what you said, and don't deny it. when you make such a ridiculous and stupid statement, you lose credibility

to Christian: you always get the last word, out of respect, please the last word

i could go on and on and on about all the ways this makes this an incredibly biased interview, but i don't wanna use too many 500-character boxes

  • my factual, unbiased, mostly word for word (where not redundant) recount of the interviewer's questions:

to Atheist rep: is it true that this movie has a hidden agenda to recruit kids into atheism?

to Atheist: let me stop you there, but the catholic league says that these books denegrate christianity, trash the church and sell the virtues atheism, what about the first two?

to atheist: do the books denegrate christianity. it's one thing to promote atheism, but do they denegrate christianity?

  • i wanna see what this 'Father' has to say about the pope covering up a priest molesting over 200 deaf children.

  • wow, that was not fair, nor balanced. silly fox.

  • When a movie "pushes" non belief on kids, it's a huge problem. When kids are indoctrinated from birth, it's normal and acceptable. Let kids at least reach an age where they have a basic understanding of the world and allow them to choose for themselves. An by the way, Fox News is absolutely pathetic (not that most people didn't know that already).

  • Pinnacle of hypocrisy, I tell ya. If you don't like the movie, DON'T WATCH IT! Don't have your kids watch it. It's that fucking simple.

  • Ooh, evil... Promoting godlessness to children. Not letting them believe in glorified fairy tales and mythological books thousands of years old full of bullshit "morality." Not brainwashing them into having some stupid imaginary friend that will supposedly bail them out of every pickle.

Get real, Christians. So you think you can force your kids and everyone else's kids to follow Christian doctrine, but god forbid an ATHEIST tries to spread his own beliefs?

  • OMFG!!!!!! FUCK RELIGION!!!

  • wow, this host is a douche

  • Absolutely mad, is this what counts for news in America? So its allright for religion to say to 5 year old kids that God exists but its not right for atheists to say to kids that God doesn't exist? How does that work then?

In fact its atheists' right to do that- at least we have proof!

That has to be one of the most biased and arseholic 'news' anchors i have ever seen!

  • How fucking disgraceful typical religious bullshit I wish there was a hell for those two paedophile enablers to go to

  • ahh... propaganda...

In most of the media religion is either promoted or avoided. Religious americans dont seem to relize yet what a really BIG market atheists (and their children) are.

When I'm a parent, I will definitly show my children stuff that approach the atheistic point of view. Where im from the christian view is not so omnipresent, but it still impossible to "keep your children away from it". Now, I dont want too hide it from them, I want them to see other points of view.

  • PS: that last point really makes all the difference between non-believers and all the others. We wouldn't hide "other religions" to our children. Quite the opposite. Just show them everything. I saw quite a few docus and movies about jesus, mohammed, budda, history stuff with religious empires etc by the age of 12. I knew by then that religion is more than just a blind believe, but, sadly, some approaches got a bit taken away by the possibilities of a unified world view among the population

  • PPS: "some approaches got a bit taken away" or might even be designed with this in mind... its no accident monotheistic religions are very wide spread...

  • "I want to be fair here..."

    Pfft! That's a good one.

  • That Father seems curiously camp...

  • wow, this is one of the more "in your face" examples of fox bias i've seen.

  • @cl1mbat1ze one of the more 'in your face' examples of fox that you've seen ? more in your face than when that fox news lady suggested killing Obama along with Osama ,just because he was black ?

  • Movies about violence and sex are fine, mind you.

  • @wonkavsn

    ur got that right

  • @wonkavsn

Isn't that what their book talks mostly about? Not sure why anyone bothers to go on Fox "News".

  • if you really believe in god and are spiritual, there is no way you can chose christianity. better to be an atheist. jews christians and muslims are standing on 3 corners of a triangle and pointing at the other two telling them they are going to hell, its obvious all 3 are wrong.

  • Im a 15 year old atheist. I just want to know where can I go to escape the bullshit i go through with christianity....is there a country that wont ostracize me. If so, ASAP im moving there.

  • which country are you in right now ?

  • america. Georgia to be exact

  • then its not so bad. you only have to tolerate the others who complain and fuss over your atheism instead of minding their own business but no one can punish you. in saudi if you say you are changing religion from islam and many other islamic countries, the punishment is death. wouldnt you rather stay in america ?

  • Unfortunately, here in the UK we have no separation of church/state, and so we are all forced to fund the anglican church, and Roman Catholics and atheists are not allowed to be in the monarchy.

  • Canada :)

  • Norway and Sweden should be tops. Since you speak English, England is very secular too and constantly make fun of the US for involving religion in our politics.

  • @Evanthezombie Scandinavian countries. Over 70% of the norwegian population describe themselves as non-religious.

  • Come to Australia :-D

No-one ever talks about that shit in public, esp. schools. They promote learning.

  • Western europe. England, France, Germany, the scandinavian countries, Switzerland... California?

The christians here are very aware of the atheistic/agnostic point of view. Very few will bring up religion. Actually, a lot of people how see themselfes as christians are technically agnostic, or at least they don't believe that God does things in the physical world (which makes them, in a narrow definition, atheists x)

  • "Religion is a source of peace and serenity...and has changed society for the good"

Yea, those twin towers sure were fucking up the New York city skyline huh?

  • Please compare the time given to the damned priest compared to the poor girl. I cannot stand the screaming and fanatic Fox dogs and their associated criminals such as these pedophiles.; great going Pullman.

  • Catholicism poisons everything, and everyone, and if it cant ~ it will kill them.

  • lol @ faux news

  • I love the way Fox carefully ensures their newsmen take a central, unbiased view between their guests! LOL!

  • Ahahahahahahah.....That is the most genius comment I have read in ages.....But I think that he died for our sins not for himself. Which makes your comment all the more brilliant

  • I'm so glad that I'm a atheist and hope the catholic church one day answers for all they have done in the past.

  • this is weird. i have read all the books. only the last 2 have anything to do with atheism. the first book has nothing to do with religion at all. neither does the movie.

i find it funny when he says religion is good for people. religion has started more wars than anything else. it is a poisen. i am not saying abolish it. just that religion can corrupt people. it can do some good, but the good is ruined by all the bad.

  • I love how that Fox anchor says he respects her views after he just called her statements "stupid."

I would expect such a level of hypocrisy in one defending religion.

  • shes kinda a shit debater, but i geuess thats why fox asked her to come on, they wouldnt want atheists to sound smart would they?

there are hundreds of books/movies that promote god, why not have some that promote atheists, oh thats right, in america atheist is a dirty word...

  • atheism is not anti-christianity.

its not all about you retard. its anti-religion as a whole

  • god you're lucky. the us sucks. i'm sorry, but the us has gone downhill so much mostly cuz of religion. surprisingly, no they're not a joke. just a bunch of biased conservative idiots that bash atheists, gays, and anything that isn't tolerated in the bible. sad, isn't it?

  • Oh yes you do, they just hide their bias.

  • "news" channel ? No reasonable person could call this news.

  • Sorry my video suck so bad. It didn't when I first posted it.

If anyone fails to see how obviously bias Fox is , they would have to be a 'tea bagger"

  • @AuShawster Try to add "yt:stretch=16:9" to fix the aspect ratio. (Without the quotation marks of course)

  • @AGrandt I could not find where to change aspect ratio?

  • @AuShawster Ad, sorry, forgot to mention that you add the text to your video's tags list.

  • @AGrandt Thanks a lot! It wasn't that way when first posted it but the aspect ratio has been screwed up for a while now. Much better!

  • Well said, Miss Gaylor

  • Annie Gaylor rulez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is a 'news' station. LOL It is popular with the American bible belt. American christian right wing extremists are much the equivalent as the Taliban is to Islam.

  • i hate most conservatives. they don't listen to anything you have to say. and i live in a very conservative town. i'm not against christians (though i'm basically atheist) but it's because conservatives are soooo arrogant. they don't use their common sense, they're too absorbed in their little books.

  • I come from a 'faith-tarted' family and community myself, I can identify with your situation. Luckily, reason rules on the internet.

  • What an idiot! Why does the burden of proof lie with Atheists? We're not the ones saying there is a magical man in the sky....

  • This is so ridiculous its unbelievable!

Atheists in the US are like 5%, christians like 80%, so what the fuck are they complaining about if we get 1 movie that supports atheism.

Fucking pussies thats what they are. And the priest probably molested 5 ten year old boys that morning.

  • Atheists were 5% maybe in the 70s. Atheists, in 2010 are approximately ~15%-20% of the population.

Approximately ~85% of atheists are now "new atheists" that have been deconverted from their religion.

Approximately ~70% of atheists are under the age of 25.

Wish I could give you my source... Various studies from American Atheists, Center for Inquiry, and some other organization's posting which I have read. Once being in an atheist student organization on college it would seem to ring true.

  • Christian are always pissed! Calm the fuck down!

  • Bahahaha, "I'm trying to be fair"? Really? Haha, Annie Laurie or who ever didn't get anywhere near as much time to talk, haha.

  • Did this prest even read thes books we are the dust so wer basicly reincanated into somthing. And thay say that hes bashing religen I think that most religens bash them selfs like haw this prest lafs at the ladey when shes interupted. I like the books and Im pagan so I belev in things and dust makes just as much sence as anything els. Sory about the speling cant spel for crap. )o(

  • What a cunt interviewer.

  • That was a completely bullshit interview; the interviewer was totally biased against Annie Laurie and wouldn't even let her get a word in edgeways!

  • wow you suck. :P think outside your little book of narrow-mindedness.

  • ..........is that moron priest standing in front of a vatican backdrop?

PS "The latest on pictures from Miami, wow look at that! Tropical storm watch...as gods mighty and benevolent wrath decends on Florida!!! WOW those floridians must have really really done something to piss our holy father off huh?"

    Fox = Furh dee furh

  • this was a suckass movie!! my dad, brother, and cousins said that its a stupid movie and they dont understand why people like it so much. its an embarassing movie!! hows this an anti christian movie?

  • Aisha, Why does it matter what your dad brother and cousin think? Who knows? They might all believe in God (LOL)

I agree the movie was a disappointment. The books were really good.

  • i actually liked the movie. of course, it wasn't NEAR as good as the book. but still think about it: philip pullman understood the reason for the changes and didn't complain and liked the movie. so why should we complain when the author doesn't? XD but the series is soooo good.

  • Yes, looks at the movies coming out, most of them have some kind of sex scene, profanity, drug use, sexual themes, more violence than necessary not to mention the gory horror flicks. Now do really think they believe in Jesus and are following what he said when these type of movies are being produced. In times past there were some upstanding people in Hollywood and some that actual believe and followed God that was like in the 30's to 50's.

  • I did not disagree with people saying they beleive in a God, my point is that people say it but the don't show it and faith with out works is dead. Pretty much people say a lot of things but as always action speak louder than any words.

  • I now the statistics, and they are going down by the way from (90% to about 76%) but just because a person says they believe in God does not make them automatically on God's side.

For the simple fact is they do not follow any of his commands, they do what ever they want and say I beleive in God.

Also, the statistics do not show the god that they really are talking about is theirself, they are like yeah I beleive in myself which I think is god.

  • Comment removed

  • Religion and God are completely seperate things. You can believe in a higher power without buying in to this church bullshit. It's all getting more and more cult-like by the day. Why shouldn't kids be told to watch out for religious groups? Makes sense to me.

Pullman is simply telling a story about how the Catholic empire could ultimately become just as violent and overpowering as they once were in the past, which frankly I believe is a very real possibility.

Fuck the church & its bullshit

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for that wonderful laugh I had from reading this post. I loved it.

  • You don't understand! God didn't create a woman with sin. LOL!

  • Wow, fuck the "Fair and Balanced" Fox "News" and fuck religion.

yes, god forbid a movie might teach "atheist values" to children! Those kids might start questioning the bible and their infaliable word of god!

  • Fucking bastards wouldnt even give her a chance to talk. HE GETS EVERYTHING FUCKING WRONG THE COMPLETE FUCKING RETARDS. What am i getting angry for? they are just retards

true but they tend to be the very retards in control: Tony Blair, George Bush, Armadinijad. one and the same. it's time my friend, our time. the time of the educated, of the tolerant, of the reasonable, of the human, of the atheist. let's hit this shit!!!! revolt!!! (in as friendlier way as we have so far...but better). love

  • Fucking bastards wouldnt even give her a chance to talk. HE GETS EVERYTHING FUCKING WRONG THE COMPLETE FUCKING RETARDS. What am i getting angry for? they are just retards

  • it's fox news, so obviously they're gonna gang up on the poor woman, the asshats. and that preacher was scary as hell when he got really into his speech. this series is brilliant and i found the movie very good, though not near as good as the books. gaw, these people are so anal. it's ridiculous.

  • For him it was, yes.

  • Didn't this movie puke at the boxoffice?

  • The book series were great but It wasn't really a very good movie.

But what has this got to do with the the topic of this video?

Didn't the Vatican puke at their anti-abortion campaign during the US election?

  • Has to do with popularity - whatever that's worth. Abortion is popular in the U.S., atheism, especially in children's films, is not.

  • Bullshit, If you think that asshole Donahue had anything to do with the failure of this movie. The Catholic league tells Americans not to go see something and it usually is a box office hit.

There is nothing in the movie a child would recognize as being anti god. The author is an atheist OOOOOH You have no idea how many in the arts are.

Want to see a real reference to atheism in a childrens movie? watch Disney's Road to Teribithia> google it

  • Pullman wrote a trilogy, and he hoped his less blatant "Compass" would lead to the other books as movie sequels - which are far more pointedly athesistic. The hoped for success of "Compass" never materialized, leaving the sequels' production doubtful.

Even though atheists are only about 4% of the U.S. population (less than 3% worldwide), they do represent a rather large percentage of Hollywood and other arts, so you are correct! Just hard to get a large audience for their worldview.

  • Who was it who said 'the times they are a changing"

-non-religious are about 14.7% of the world's population

-the number of people in the US who don't believe in a god to be about 10% ( A 2005 Gallup poll) After books like the God Delusion, Letters to a Christian Nation, and God is not great, I am sure the numbers are a bit higher.

Tell me why do people post bullshit stats on the web where stats are instantly available?

  • According to Mark Twain, there are "lies, damned lies, and statistics." You can find whatever stats you like on the web. Mine were from Encyclopedia Britannica (2006), but hey - they are unabashedly theistic in all they publish, right? Even if atheists were 10% or more, it doesn't seem to help at the boxoffice much - and it certainly won't help you in eternity. Anyway, got to go. May you have a long, happy, wealthy life!

  • My favorite Samuel Clemmons quote is "faith is believin what you know ain't so"

  • Neither will religion.

  • wow. well put. i am also completely for atheism being in entertainment. after all, Christianity is in entertainment

  • not only did the priest get the last word but the lady was cut off every time she spoke.fair and balanced is furthest from the truth, just like religion
