i've seen self bows backed with burlap which be jute fiber. it was strong and looked awesome like it had been carved to look that way -sort of burnt on look when glued aand varnished or polyurethaned. great vid

hm not sure but i think that this isnt a good idea combining it with aluminum arrows. If theres too much clothing inside the arrows may bend or smth. I use this technique but instead of cloth i use plastic bags. The target is waterproof and the arrows dont penetrate the back (shooting with a compound bow, 60lbs) and are removable with two fingers aswell.

they take about 10000 hits before needing replaced.

The targets that you buy at the store that are the thick sponge looking ones...the material for that is so expensive. My grandpa gets it for free from his job and we buy the refill bags and just stuff it. Great video!

when I make one I will probably use cardboard or old newspapers as filling.

actually way back I had a cardboard box filled with newspaper for target practice. worked very well. and didn't cost me anything to make.
