  • @cntwejstprtnd

    true

  • I was born deaf in one ear

  • He's so cute!

  • I would marry Chris, Deaf or not, I'm in love with him. Oh, and all you hoes making fun of these people, Get a life.

  • @cntwejstprtnd I dont AT ALL view deaf people as lesser than me i actually have a friend whose deaf and i love her shes a great person but sometimes she tells me she would love to hear and be able to do things i can and so i know what its like:/ and im so sorry if i insulted u D:

  • @cntwejstprtnd I hope this doesn't sound offensive, but so when a Deaf person is planning to join some group or get a job, will the managers or whoever need to learn some basics about deaf ways of life to allow easier communication?

  • i took sign language in hs. n wut cntwejstprtnd (top commnt) said., not all people are like that about deaf people. some deaf people like to be bitches to people becuz they expect them to think what cntwejstprtnd said, about people being surprised about deaf people n shit.,,obviously u see how cntwejstprtnd n allikaiter comments basically say "deaf people aren't stupid, so hearing people educate yourselfs"

  • its amzing the effort they put on

  • That guy is so cute ^_^

  • I don't like the portrayal of "they have to overcome such obstacles since they are Deaf. It's such a struggle and nearly impossible to live normally." I don't know how the show actually shows it, but this setup is everything the Deaf community is trying to avoid!

  • @cntwejstprtnd I'm saying this is putting Deaf people in a light of pity where everything accomplished by a Deaf person is any more spectacular than a hearing person. Deaf people can do anything except hear and I think this mini documentary by MTV pities the deaf. Idk, I think it just should've highlighted the culture more.

  • @cntwejstprtnd no shit! This isn't a very accurate depiction of Deafness... more like choke-ear.

  • I had one work for me well he was hard or hearing it total difference

  • what happend to the rest of this episode? I would like to see more of his story.

  • These ppl are not DUMB its there ears that dont work. not there brain.

  • @allikaiter You've been watching Switched at Birth? lol

  • even the deaf guy has a girlfriend im such a loser

  • @vevomembersiwilleat what is that supposed to mean..? that a deaf person is incapible of finding someone that loves them? geez, no wonder you're alone. if you keep saying ignorant things like this, you always will be. just because someone is deaf, that doesn't make them a bad person, it makes them handicapped.

  • @Heather146 ugh ugh ugh unlike most people i can handle being alone ;) even joke about it . you replying to my joke just shows how much time you have to waist (AND im actually glad for the deaf guy !) unlike some people i dont envy or hate other people cuzz they have what i never will ...... think im a better person than you

  • im Deaf just from one ear and its sometimes hard in life but i ride bmx and couple buddys of mine say im good ,,,,and when i tell my dad its not funny to be saying that word just for fun( Deaf) and it breaks my heart when he started laughing

  • Tht's so sad like i know they do just fine but wouldnt u WANT to hear like be able to hear music and hear ur girlfriend/boyfriend's voice and say i love you and things like tht it's so hard on them especially when their around a lot of hearing people and trying to understand what they say but i think the boys cute and the girls pretty:)

  • That emo boy is HELLA FINE.

  • Cholear implant is deaf culture genocide.

  • Funny thing is my ex-bestfriend's sister is Chris from this show and when they first told me that he couldn't hear and that he was deaf I didn't believe him and yelled from my friends room his name " CHRIS!" and no answer each time. Then i found out he was actually on this show, cool how im friends with someone whose been on tv :p

  • HEROOOEEEEE

  • I loved this episode!

  • This episode made me cry!

i know there´s nothing wrong be deaf, i have a dear brother and he´s soo inteligent

itñs just that sometimes i feel selfish becuz we are always complaining about little things that we don´t like, and we don´t see everyone´s needs So...that´s why it made me a little Sad :)

We should start thinking in everyone else :)

    and don´t Complain!

  • @xXFireXRevengeXx

    Amen to that!

  • hi, im deaf too you and its awesome thing you do on your video, xDD :)

  • I am completely deaf and I love how we, the Deaf, use our hands to communicate. I think it's beautiful and magical. We can do everything, except hear. Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and other celebrities want to learn how to sign. Did you know that? :]

& Chris's friend and I used to like each other ha. Deaf world = small world ! I met Chris at Gally. I was like "Wow, you are Chris and.. I saw you on MTV!"

  • I am deaf but I go implant when I was 3 now I am 16 I in hard high school and I am best sport is water polo I use with out my implant no sign Lange just I can read lip

  • being deaf must suck when ur playing counter-strike =/

  • @copperhead88

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I am deaf FPS gamer for pc and I have defeated many players many times in the past in different FPS. There are alot of deaf gamers that you're not even aware of! Keep ignorant to yourself!

  • Comment removed

  • @copperhead88

First at all I am fully born deaf and it is YOU who have NO idea of what YOU are talking about. Often it have been said that people with can hear, can see, or have all 5 senses would beat other who have less senses and yet it was proven wrong many times. You are obliviously young person who act like you know everything when it is not the true. There is a saying from famous RAF pilot who said this quote:

  • @Chaoic16 lol u make me fucking laugh dude :) u keep believing the shit u just told me... xD

example.....if you are camping in a small place upstairs and you aim through the window....in my case I would hear a player that is running up the stairs when YOU sir cannot... what happens? you die HAHA....dude you cant fucking have a "special sense" that makes you FEEL that a player is running up the stairs...the only thing you can do is to look behind you or down the stairs from time to time..ffs

  • @copperhead88 Hey, I know im not part of this conversation but I just wanted to tell you that, unless you live a life being deaf at some point, you wont understand what Chaoic16 is talking about. I may not be deaf but I know that they sense vibrations well (like someone running up the stairs).

  • @Phoema21 w00t? sense vibrations in a fps game? how? u mean they can feel vibrations in their ear instead of sound?......xD

  • @copperhead88 i wouldnt know remember? ask @chaoic16 he'd know. try taking on a deaf person who knows how to play before you knock how good they can be. I just hate it when people think they are superior for whatever reason without knowing the hard facts. and that quote he posted is very true.

  • @copperhead88 the deaf can feel vibrations through their feet , hands and other parts of the body. Try this Put in ear plugs and over that some ear muffs. Cant hear? ok good now put your hand over the speaker of a tv or radio while its on. Have a friend run past you...you will feel the vibrations from both tests. this is how Deaf people can get around with OUT hearing.

  • @copperhead88

""Great pilots are made not born... A man may possess good eyesight,

sensitive hands, and perfect coordination, but the end product is only

fashioned by steady coaching, much practice, and experience." - Air Vice-Marshall J.E. "Johnnie" Johnson, RAF "

And the point is, it is not your body that makes the difference, ti is the person inside them, the experiences and determinations inside them that makes the most difference. Besides for your info,

  • @copperhead88

One sense that you lost, you make other sense for it. In case you don't even realize it, we develops sixth sense which allow us to have better 'instinct' and you are just assuming thing based on your ignorant, biased way of thinking. I have already defeated countless of hearing people who claimed that I can't beat them. Same with other deaf gamers so we have no need to waste time on ignorant person like you. Thank you and I won't ever waste my time on you.

  • @copperhead88

I would also like to add one more thing... You may think you can beat us deaf players, but at end, you lacks of what it is like to have a strong determination, wills of steel, and strong fighting spirits.. the heart... That is why I am damn proud to born fully deaf and it bought me alot of unique challenges through my life that you would never be able to learn from. ;)

  • @Chaoic16 were you like born deaf or did u become deaf over the years?.... if you were born deaf then YOU really dont know what the FUCK you are FUCKING talking about u dip shit....I have been playing fps games for 8 years and I know how fucking important SOUND IS.....if you are in a quiet place in a fps...example you "camp" or you move slowly....then you can hear your enemies closing up to you from different directions...then you will be ready for them and kill them. once again u get the point

  • Being deaf doesn't hold you back it's just ignorant hearing people who can't see past it that holds deaf persons back. F.Y.I I'm not deaf. Becoming educated about hard of hearing individuals clears up our misconceptions.

  • @Caramartelli

I don't think it EVER was the claim that deafness equaled stupidity or a lessened ability to learn, achieve, invent, or whatever. At least not in modern times.

However, it very much IS true that the loss of hearing is a significant social barrier, as (spoken) language is a significant part of the human experience, not to mention the loss of music (a pan-cultural, pan-global phenomena) and the inevitable (and heavy) hit the person's awareness of their environment takes.

  • This was one of my favorite True life..best show mtv has going for it..actually. ever since Trl ended and rr/rw challenges i like the watch that other than that...this true life was oneof my favorites, the bolemic one which was kind of gross but it was real and raw, the relationships or double life lol, getting surgery, or im fat those old ones those were really good

  • I don't care if the girl on this episode was deaf, she was smokin' HOT!

  • @knicks3085 "i dont care if the girl...is deaf" why would it make a difference anyway? you could have just left it at "she was smokin' HOT!" its not like being deaf is something that affects your looks -__-

  • @HaloofCurls Cute AND taken too. I saw the episode and he has a girlfriend.

  • @HaloofCurls Thank you.

Probably you believed that Deafs judge people so harshly, it's only because they are not exposured enough to hearing world, where they will come to the term to understand full extends of hearing. I, myself, am 17 years old, deaf too, and attend to deaf school all over my life and I was raised in hearing family. I meant, I am the only one that are deaf, entirely.... I understand this but it's only education matters, some deafs or hearings aren't "educated" enough.

  • (Continued) Like if I knew a deaf girl and was attracted to her. I would be sad she couldn't hear music, a cat purring, a child laughing, the ocean, rain drops, thunder, trees blowing in the wind, there's thousands of sounds.

It's not like we want to 'change' you. At the same time it's not like we think you're less of a person because you CAN'T hear. If someone makes fun of you, they're usually little kids or adult assholes. Fuck em.

Most of us hearing don't see you as 'freaks'. So chill out.

  • @RandomShellAccount

  • Why does it seem that Deaf people are so angry at their own peers? You all judge each other and the hearing so harshly. Like you're in a war over HEARING. We hearing people don't judge you to the extent you judge yourselves.

Being deaf is odd, because we hardly know or meet deaf people. But it's not like we see you as lepers or retarded children., so relax. Deaf people are so uptight I swear.

And yes we sometimes wish you could hear, it's only natural. To experience sounds we do.

  • hey i wish i was like that atleast i having somethign called neopia which slowy gets my eyes blind so fuck it

  • edit: "Lie Dead: I'm Audism"

  • she's beautiful

  • The speakers voice should be signed or across the screen, if your deaf, u wouldn't hear it! LOL

  • god bless

  • I know some deaf people are against to this thing but that's okay, their opinion is respectable but they should tolerate those who want to have an Implant cochlear... It's their ears, their choice.

  • I use an implant cochlear and it helped me a lot. My parents never forced me to have a ICU. I remember the first time they asked me if i wanted to get an implant cochlear. I was 10. my answer was no, cause i didn't want to go under surgery and that if i did, i would die but God moved my faith, months later I told my mom: Mom, you know what? I've done some thinking and yes, i want an IC. I got my IC on September 2002. It helped me a lot. I know some deaf people are so against to this thing...

  • Awww Chris (: Bless Him (: He's Hot and just so cute (: I love the waч he saчs his name "Christofer" mч parents and 1 brother are deaf so.. i know how theч both feel xx?

  • chris is kinda hot

  • Just because people are deaf, it shouldn't mean they should dress differently. They can wear music shirts just like other people, and everything!

  • alsharpton666 -um.juss.cuz.hes.deaf.dosent.mean.he.cant.wear.a.beetles.shirt

  • alsharpton666 -um.juss.cuz.hes.deaf.dosent.mean.he.cant.wear.a.beetles.shirt

  • :( god bless em

  • hey i dont know if the 2 people in this video can read this, but chris and amanda dont beat your selfs up about this! yea amanda i know its ur passion to dance and chris im glad the coch implant worked! but you will need allot of practice learning how to speak praying 4 both of you

  • Look at 0:51. Why would he wear a beatles shirt if he was deaf?? Maybe their style or something? Strange...

  • The CI doesn't work the same way for everyone. Someone on here said they could hear really clear with it, but I have a friend who was implanted at 2 years old and hated it. He had therapy and wore it everyday like he was supposed to, but never heard clearly. Years later, he threw it out. I have friends who love them and friends who hate them. It sounds like some people think they are the greatest thing ever, but it doesn't always work that way. Please remember that before implanting your baby.

  • @AngelicSmile78

can u hear better than the bte, i ask because im thinking of getting them. do u recommend them or don't you.

  • Chris is so adorable and Amanda is hot.

  • he is cute

  • much respect for overcoming

  • cool man well done

  • Comment removed

  • I've seen this episode like once before and I have no idea why, but the other night I dreamed this kid was my boyfriend. No clue where it came from haha.

  • Wow that's crazy I admire them both like REALLy

  • I admire the Amanda, she is so brave and feminine, I'd date her :)

  • Just to add to this whole "d/Deaf in the workplace" thing....uh...my good friend is profoundly Deaf and has worked for Boeing for years, so....you're fuckin' stupid. I can't even work at Boeing, and my ears work perfectly. That guy makes double my income.

  • The counselor on a deaf community Deafornot dot c om said that "People who may be defined as clinically deaf (unable to hear spoken language) may or may not be members of the Deaf community."

  • cool

  • I was in the middle of writing a paper about cochlear implants and this came up i was so happy! I put it in my paper. :D

  • @xXFireXRevengeXx

EXACTLY, just half of the jobs!!! thats what upsets me. now u know what im talking about.

  • @xXFireXRevengeX

your right, sure.....lets think positive right, but the reality is, we can't do everything. if u are a hearing person, then step off cause then u don't know what u are talking about.

  • @mileyandmandyfan4ev

if amanda made the team, only because she is on tv, world is watching which makes the show more interesting. scouts probably got paid more if they accept amanda on the team.

  • @xXFireXRevengeXx

nascar drivers don't have to talk or hear, just see. sure........sue thomas is an actress not investigator, who's father is also into acting, connections. sure. marlee matlin was miss usa, beautiful as hell.....actress yeah sure with the help of preverted men. and what is your pt?

  • does he have a facebook? 0.0

  • if u are deaf, your dreams are over. "Guess what daddy, i want to be an astronaut when i grow up" psssff, u can forget that dream. "when i grow up, i want to be a doctor and save the world" yeah right..... U see, your life is fucked already!!!

  • @jamaldej34 False. There are deaf doctors, lawyers, businessmen/women, teachers, artists, actors, authors... need I go on?

  • @AliciaFD86

im sure there are but they are deaf who help other deaf people not other hearing people. deaf people and hearing people are two seperate worlds.

  • @jamaldej34 Again. False. There are a lot of d/Deaf people who work among hearing people and are even bosses of them.

  • @AliciaFD86

are u just guessing and hoping u are right!!! give me one boss, ill search him up.

  • @jamaldej34 No I'm not guessing. And based on your level of ignorance I doubt you have ever met a person who is d/Deaf.

I'm not about to give out someone else's personal information on YouTube. Enlightening yourself is your own responsibility.

  • @jamaldej34 Just happened to see some other comments ... did you say you were deaf? If so, that's even sadder that you seem to think that d/Deaf can only be limited to menial jobs or jobs that work with other d/Deaf people.

  • @AliciaFD86

yeah it is huh, oh well.

  • Thumbs up if you'd totally date a deaf guy like chris!!!!

  • What's with all this deaf culture b.s.? It's a physical abnormality for godsakes! Christ, people will make a group out of anything....

  • @Genesislinx Let's see... it's own language ? Yep (different signed languages for each country however). History? Yep. Art and poetry? Yep. etc.

While it may be considered a disability, it fits the criteria for being a culture as well. And since it does not prevent anyone from living normal lives, it can also be argued that it is only a "disability" for those that allow it to be.

  • @Genesislinx

    u must be a loner.....no friends, eh?

  • With Chris I'm glad he made the choice to have the cochlears and not have it made for him. I do wonder what influenced his decision though. Unfortunately alot of hearing people put pressure on Deaf to get them to make them "hearing". The unfortunate thing is that Deaf will think that they'll be hearing and fit in but it's really a life long process of learning to hear and many just take out the implant and don't use it again.

  • @IsmeldeiSedai

he got paid alot of money to do this show, same with the girl. i agree with you on the life long process, they will not be happy with cochlear, also, its the ugliest largest peice of shit ever. chris is wearing a huge hat to hide it, thats how ugly it is. i recommend deaf people who have already aged not wear, better they start as babies.

  • @jamaldej34

first of all, get the fuck out of my shoes. im living my own life, everything you said is WRONG. i dont hide anything and having a CI is my own decision. i have no respect for you. its exactly like a blind person who needs a new cane or glasses. it seems like you have too much deaf pride going on, and cant even understand what its like in the real world.

  • @IsmeldeiSedai

the question is, how much does he hear with cl?

  • @IsmeldeiSedai or maybe he just wanted to hear

  • Amanda is hot!!

  • They sound like little mungloids. Probably wouldn't talk if I were them

  • when i saw this episode the first thing i said was DAAMMM CHRIS IS HOT!!! thats wat got me interested in it :p :D

  • Chris does what he wants. It isn't anybody else's decision. I am not against CI, but I wouldn't want CI, it is scary having a metal inside my head. Btw Im deaf. TSD alumni!

  • Explain to me how you could possibly be AGAINST cochlear implants??? If someone wants the ability to hear again, go for it. Judging them because they want another thing in life is like hating someone because they wear glasses or walk with a cane.. I swear, some of the deaf community has FAR too much pride.. It's not like people are trying to change who they are..

I am very severely hard of hearing.. And I chose to not judge anyone for their choices or handicaps..

  • @lynxznet thats just deaf culture dude. im coda, but my dad was totally against hearing, while my mother grew up with a hearing family, she even talks every once in a while. its like that not because they are proud, alot of deaf get taken advantage of by the hearing world, so when someone becomes hearing, they feel they are being betrayed. again, just the culture.

  • @lynxznet Most people in the deaf community are not 100% cochlear implants or hearing aids. There is a small minority that is.

IMO - using spoken English and ASL is just another way of being bilingual.

  • @lynxznet

this is very true, thank you so much for sharing

  • Im reading all of your comments and im not being rude or offensive but you have to show respect to chris. yeah im against cochlear implants (im deaf btw) but if that what he want, people cant prevent that bec its his choice. just show little sympathy for him. cool? have a good day :)

  • youtube needs to put captioing here because im hard of hearing and i can't understand this :( no fair....

  • @track240

i agree, but that is just too much work and the majority of the population can hear.

  • chris is um hotness

  • @freakyanimechic

he is not hot, what r u more ugly and desperate or something....pssfff

  • Comment removed

  • @jamaldej34 your probably an old ass wrinkley man that gets no poon. stop being a waste of life. =D and honey, im FAR from desperate. lolz

  • @freakyanimechic actually im pretty gorgeous, im a male deaf model.

  • @jamaldej34 thats amazing =O but all that counts for nothing when your a d!ckhead.

  • @freakyanimechic

    thanks, thats so sweet.

  • @jamaldej34 hehehehe i try! =)

  • i am a 100% supporter of the deaf community, world, and culture. i love everything it is and stands for. guess what.. IM HEARING!! lol im very active in ASL with my friends and i respect it so much. i love this episode and to those who bash the deaf world.. FUCK YOU.

  • aww i love chris<333

  • Deafornot dot c om is an online community for deaf, ASL and hearing-impaired friends and singles!

Have fun with photos, message boards, chat, blog and more.

  • Most Deaf people would rather not have cochlear implant

  • This is bull****. They've made this video about deafness and didn't bother to include subtitles.

  • @Fourchetteable TVs have the closed captioning option for deaf viewers so the show doesn't have to provide. I think all TVs have it.

  • watch true life: I need a transplant

    it's so sad

    made me cry

  • Hey... i heard most of the doctors were putting cochlear implant on innocent babies, which they are young! So it means, you will have RUINED the DEAF CULTURE in someday...... MAY I ASK YOU A QUESTION, WHY DID YOU SHOW ABOUT YOURSELF TO PEOPLE ON NATIONAL T.V!! BEACAUSE PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, IF THE COCHLEAR IMPLANTS WILL WORK ON INNOCENT BABIES OR NOT!!

  • @32Maddxdogg what about the guilty ones
