@heheitsjohnE haha, im pretty aware of that. ppl should know that difference in order to avoid controversy. after all the fuhrer simply copied and made the buddist symbol a symbol of evil. im not at all offended, just overwhelmed by complexness of the poomsae which ill have to be tested on. vertical and horizontal = buddist, diagonal = nazi.
u know that these forms have been around for 2000 years right tae kwon do started 2000 years ago u have no idea the meaning of tae kwon do its not just a martial arts its a way of life tae kwon domeens kicking punching good way of life its not all about fighting
@jitnova6 tae kwon do is about 60 to 70 years old. not 2000. korean martial arts is about 2000 years old but thats taekyen. thats something totally different. much of korean history was lost during the japanese occupation. they had to slowly relearn everything after world war 2. tae kwon do is one of those things. the forms are only about 70 years old too. they were all made in the early 50s and 60s.
@jitnova6 close but completely right. Taekyon and HwaRang-Do are older Korean arts. Taekwon-Do and Tang So Do are modernized versions of them. Taekwon-Do under the KTA was formed in 1955, then it adopted the name ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) in 1966. WTF was formed in 1973 by the South Korean KTA members that did not follow ITF and supported by the South Korean Government.
all the movements were called 'Hyungs', then ITF called them 'Tul', WTF later called them 'Poomsae'
I think chronomaestro must have thought that you cultivate fire in your palms and shoot lightning out of your eyes when you achieve the final form in Kukkiwon Poomse. by the way, the WTF is the sports side of our Taekwondo, the Kukkiwon is the traditional art and Poomse (forms) side. Ergo the words Kukkiwon on the back of his uniform... WTF does not have "forms", we have sparring... as a matter of fact, we're in the Olympics! so yeah, I guess we're the superficial ones. jayseon777 is right.
Read my comment again. Do a search on here for Tong-Il. Do you see thunder and fire from this form? My point is that the person(s) who created these patterns should put more efforts and thoughts into their work.
I could care less about the dispute between ITF vs WTF and the fact that one is an Olympic sport while the other is not. I trained in both ITF and WTF. I started in ITF and switched entirely to WTF. However, I now find the ITF forms to be essential for any TKD practitioner. You seem to be so quick in jumping into "our TKD" vs "your TKD" argument but I'm not so interested.
@kohanjin Actually, Kukkiwon is the headquarters of the WTF. Both Poomse and Gyoroogi are important parts of any martial artists training, and Kukkiwon ultimately regulates both for the WTF. You are correct in that WTF style (headed by the Kukkiwon) is the olympic style. I think you're confusing the ITF / WTF distinction.
I did not expect it to be physically difficult, just more thoughtful as it is the last milestone of the art. Take a look at Tong Il for ITF. It sums up very well the philosophy. I practiced both forms of ITF and WTF and find WTF to be very superficial.
Well when your 75 years old and a Grand Master at 9th degree do you expect things to be hard? I give someone credit being that old and still doing a flying side kick in a form. At that rank and age is more about wisdom then doing something hard.
nazi!!!!

@rafael33829
it's not a Nazi sign, Nazi swastikas are rotated lightly, it's originally the sign for Buddhism
Tadziogb 9 months ago
@Tadziogb Also the buddhism symbol is inverted (the lines at the end all point on the left instead of the right)

@Tadziogb It is just a bad joke.
