  • I wouldnt want any of you wack offs on my fire dept.!!!

  • @lacrossetechnology, your comment is so arrogant, go to an American fire academy and you'll see why. This house isn't fully involved, it looks like a room and contents that flashed over with an extension to the attic maybe. After he vents, look how much the fire went down... Learn your shit before saying something stupid

  • again and i have stated this on another "American" house fire!! where the hell is the water and hoses?, why the heck would you vent a fully involved Fire, what about saving property. Venting like this puts "LIFE" at risk (firefighters) for what??

  • .....6 days after christmas....that's horrible...and on new years eve..

  • fire is already venting...no need to cut roof.....waste of manpower.......

  • @firedude25 Vent was cut in wrong spot. A proper cut would have made more of an impact. Sure, it was venting itself, but vertical vents are always better than horizontal. The fire had already advanced into the attic, which only had small dormer windows. The vent was a good call. If u have the manpower, use it.

  • @gotgank ...as a deputy chief i would never in a million years put anyone on a roof that was already self ventilating......i agree with you a vertical vent is better 100%....but a fire already advanced into attic...that screams get off the roof......better yet...dont go on the roof.......if you have an ariel...vent away off the ariel.......just my humble opinion........stay safe.....

  • @firedude25 You Have no idea what you are talking about so please don't make anymore comments!

  • Nice job on the roof! P

  • Additional to my comment below because I ran out of room. Fire attack from side C on floor two if there is a center hallway running from A to C with stairs on Side C. There may be no access to Side A on floor 2 from Side C. This would change your attack direction. The initial attack from the outside as stated below would probably prevent extension into the attack from lapping thus eliminating the necessity to vertically ventilate. If the fire is in the attic, go for vertical above the fire room.

  • What I see on this video is an older 2 story sfr converted to multi-family with fire venting from 3 windows from side A and B on floor 2. (side A is the porch side) 1st Engine park on Side B and knock down the fire with a 2 1/2" from the outside until help arrives (straight stream does not push fire and it will turn the clock back on fire growth). Next transition to offense by confirming evacuation floor 2 then 1 by primary search while an attack line from side C onto floor 2 attacks the fire.

  • Anyone who knows anything about firefighting can see that they're just starting to knock it down from the inside towards the end of the video. Yeah, the vent hole should've been closer to the front of the house over the fire room, but not a big deal on this fire. Streets look like they're a pain in the ass to get down with all the snow piled up. Good firefighting on a hot tough fire.

  • get in get out get going!

  • nothing more than a simple room and content,,, get in and get it out...

  • I do think someone needed to get some water on the fire but give these guys a break they are doing a great job . Good fire and strong work boys! Oh and 1 last thing THIS IS AN INTERIOR OPERATION you idiot what podunk town are you from that you randomly plae a line into a fire from outside!!! grow a sack or get off the truck!

  • Why is everyone so quick to judge thats half the problem these days. First of all if you see the fire running the attic its a good idea to Vert vent any experienced truckie will tell you that verticle vent is indicated in most situations. Secondly Give these guys a break you werent there you have no damn clue what the circumstances were. and PPV? are you flippin nuts!! look boys another PPV bandwagon FF you obvioously have no knowledge of what a fan will do or the men that will get killed in it

  • and where's his back up on the vent? What cluster fucks are running this department????Seems like he is the only SOB doing anything though....

  • How about a couple of fucking lines from the outside, on the fire??? If this is how the work we need to raise their ISO....Amatuer hour.....

  • Why on earth would you hit this from the outside?? You wouldn't do anything but push it right back in and burn the rest of the house. Hit it from the inside

  • To much time wasted on ventlation. Fire vented itself. Get your back to what you want to save and get the wet stuff on the red stuff. Great job anyways!

  • is this in Pennsylvania by any chance?

  • @DDykes9s Yep...Dickson City PA. I live about 2 miles from here over the line in Scranton. :)

  • @lilbabydevil94 ok cool, my mother grew up in carbondale and her and my father own a vacation home in the ararat/thompson area that i spend alot of time at so i am very familiar with the area. I am also a FF in CT. Strong Work!!

  • @DDykes9s :) Great to know you! You guys have all my respect. We had a house fire on my street and I couldn't help but to admire the bravery of those FF. One dog died in that fire and they were so kind to the homeowners. :) They are FINALLY fixing that house up now. :D

    Thanks for the reply!

  • You PPV this fire and you might as well go straight to water towers so you can save the basement. There is fire and heat in the attic just look at the eave run on the front of the gable,it's pushing fire the whole time.I don't believe this is all just exterior extension from the 2nd floor.I'd definitely vertically ventilate this roof but I'd do it more towards the front of this building. From some of the other videos I see it Looks like the guys did a nice job on this one.

  • Unles the fire has already breached the ceiling and extended into the attack, why vertically ventilate??? You'd be better off by setting up a PPV fan at the point of entry, and clearing the conditions that way. The fire is already venting, so your exit point is established. Once the attack team is ready, turn the fan on and face it in, count to five and go for it. You'd be amazed at how well this works. I was a skeptic, now I"m a convert. Roof ops has its place, but not all the time!

  • Firemen are amazing and they do not get the appreciation they deseerve in many situations. Please check out the video that was dedicated to 4 such firefighters after they fought a fire that stole 3 young children. They were devistated. It was my brothers way of saying people do appreciate you. On you tube search Dirke Redus

  • great vid. But the fire has already vented itself Truckie get off the roof. And let the hose jackers (real men ride engines) go in with a smoothbore and put that thing out and stop playing with it.

  • Dude, It's the freakin Mid-Valley.....you can't expect water....you gotta go in the other direction...like...jackhammer on the door...or...shovel to the windows...

  • Nice little vid. I see the window on the B-C 2nd div is taken/opened at about 20 secs, probably by the truck crew doing its search. Notice the black smoke that comes out. Must have been pretty warm in there. Although the fire has already self vented , the additional vertical ventilation (preferably over the fire next time) would have relieved the heat/smoke conditions for the approaching engine crew. I assume that room was knocked down shortly after the vid ends.

  • i agree with you parttimescabbuffs also look on where the hose placement is it's towards the rear of the house, no engines in the front of the house, it's a good placement where the ladder is but not for the engines that are in front of it, they should have went to the front of the house, you know how every house has stairs in front of the house could have been an easy push with the handline up to the second and then finally up to the attic instead of going up to the 2nd floor from the rear ladd

  • Great video, Is your ladder still out of service? Any new's on when its coming back if so?

  • water?

  • boo hoo

  • Your point ? "respectable" Get a life

  • theres a class you should take, its called Firefighter 1. you learn a lot, about stuff called firefighting. Like not pushing fire back into the faces of the interior guys. just glad you are not on my department, and for your department, i am truley, truely sorry

  • You dumb fuck, a fire like that you don't knock from the outside. To hell with "looking productive", that would push it through the rest of the house. Then you'd "look" really good, as you burn it ot the ground. This crew was very productive by making a push from the inside out, searching too, making sure there were no victims inside.

  • look in a mirror dumb fuck

  • Why vent above the fire?? Doesn't smoke and heat travel through out the roof space?? Had plenty of idiots fall through the roof nearly onto me doing that.

Just sound's too dangerous too me, I like to go home at the end of the day in the same shape I arrived at work.

How about getting someone out side for a bit of initial knock down, at least make it look like your doing something productive.

  • OK, The engine company was inside the appartment making a push from the rear to the front. That's why you don't see the water flying as requested. The Officer in charge was not about to shove the fire back onto the engine company already inside and burn the company. In the critique afterwards it was brought to the attention of the Probie that the cut should have been more directly over the fire. Thanks for the interest in the video.

  • Maybe try venting above the fire next time...just a thought

  • WHEEEE! I live in Scranton! :) I sooo remember this fire!

I didn't get to go see it, but I remember it being toned out on the scanner!
