this guy is so lost...he makes Christianity no more than a self help seminar it quiet disgusting.. in regards to masturbation it is wrong the early church fathers called it self abuse.. it becomes and addiction and leads men to seek further stimuli.. and the next greater high.. even the thoughts of lust fulness leads to sin..
Also, Jesus says lust is as serious as adultery; it actually is adultery in your heart. Masturbation is usually fueled by lustful thoughts, so for singles, that is definitely adultery. But all in all the point is God is interested in every aspect of your life, He's concerned about everything you are concerned about. AND, God invented sex, not Satan!
Great interview! I especially like how Driscoll points to Jesus as the main focus of spiritual life. However, he was kinda off on masturbation. The Bible is not direct on the topic, but the principle is there: Sex is for a husband and wife to share love, not just "get off". If you're alone, it doesn't fit the purpose of sex.
Driscoll just comes up with the usual empty answers every question session, all right wing conservatism and nothing that's actually constructive or helpful. Furthermore a married man is in no position to preach at singles, and as for dodging the masturbation question - a straight up coward, who obviously hasn't read his bible. Driscoll is not the "cool' preacher he thinks he is, more like a mahco poser who himself can't accept the real Jesus, the gentle effeminate man the gospels show him as.
I think Driscoll's view was spot on. The fact that he took the opportunity to actually minister some encouragement to D.L. by turning the conversation from religion to Jesus shows us the man's heart. As for his non-response to the masturbation question, I think he made a genius move. I learned a very long time ago that when the Bible is silent that I should be as well. Not entering into a debate with the host showed wisdom. We need to step back from militant dogma and offer the Word.
I must say I have respect for Mark Driscoll doing things people are uncomfortable talking about but I find when he talks with the world about these things he often talks about the hard issues but doesn't mention how to resolve these issues like asking forgiveness and repenting and turning from sin to follow Jesus, and dying to your own desires to follow Christ. these are things we need to be telling the world.
@TheKJVberean go Read Romans 8, 1st Corinthians, 2nd Corinthians, Thessalonians, Ephesians, and John 6:64-68(? I'm not sure where to end that passage) and tell me you can honestly not believe in predestination. Plus it doesn't destroy free will as so many say it does. And if Christians don't sin, then nobody but Jesus has ever been a Christian. Universal atonement is an entirely different boat to sail; not enough space on here. Calvinism isn't scary when you understand it. GOD is God, not me.
@TheKJVberean Mark has some great Biblical teachings but ive noticed some issues that are really worth taking the time to let him know about because they are major "issues" that need some analyzing.
on the side note im a clavinist too. I think scripture is very clear on that. and just by looking at my own personal nature i know for a fact i could of never come to God with my own power i was way too deep in sin he HAD to do it all by him self. And i believe if im saved hell keep on doing it.
this is absolutely ridiculous...to be honest i dont know how to respond to what you said calmly and thats obviously not a good thing. But are you KIDDING me? sexual immorality is EVERYWHERE in America damn you know how many people are struggling with masturbation and pornography...and here comes mark saying "the bible doesnt talk about masturbation" and he just stops right there......you HAVE to be kidding me. Jesus would of never in his life answered the question that way.
wow.....why didnt mark say that masturbation causes sin? epic fail. now people are going to watch this and say "well since the bible doesnt DIRECTLY say masturbation is a sin now i can do it" PLEASE THUMBS UP THIS COMMENT. MASTURBATION IS A SIN because it causes lust in your mind. Your watching things you shouldn't your imagining things you shouldn't it causes sin
@CallmeMell Because the action of masturbation is not intrinsically a sin (at least not from what I have read). LUST is a sin. Hypothetically, if you could separate masturbation and lust, would it be a sin? I am not saying you can and masturbation is obviously very very closely related to lust.
@Jcliveshere please try to understand the only reason im stressing this is because its such a big issue in the life of so many Christians. I wish when i was young my parents regulated the damn tv shows i watched so i wont think "watching porn is a normal thing in the life of a teenager" its sad and scary because it has long term effects onto marriage.
Woooo... Not sure that was inspiring or exhalting at all... Quoting Scriptures to make questionnable jokes? Not sure at all...Where was Christ in this interview? Is Driscoll trying to make church more attractive to unbelievers? Probably did...but for the wrong reasons...
''Do you dig Jesus? That's the important, churches are full with imperfect people...'' What does that mean? Where is the call for repentance?
Hey man, I just want to share with you. The thing I notice is that people won't repent if they don't think what they're doing is wrong. People realize what they're doing is wrong only after the start to understand God's love. God is a loving being who wants his children to do certain things. People won't do things for someone who they think dislikes them. But when someone who loves you asks for something it becomes a clear choice. Repentance comes naturally with after love for God. Much love.
look, this guy is funny yes, but he is NOT CNN quality, at least what CNN used to be.
Listen to his ghetto accent and watch his behavior. No suprise he was a gang member. and wouldn't be suprised to see this guy in prison in the future.
oh, you voted for a black man...so that must mean you are open minded and full of love. Bless you. The walking vegetables are the ones that make snap judgments based on "ghetto accents" and distant past behavior. Interestingly, you are acting like a walking vegetable with your blanket statement about "half this country". Are trying to say that anybody who disagrees with you politically must be a brainwashed vegetable. I seriously pitty you.
In context, are you really trying to claim you were not or have not been referring to race? Why else would you tell me you voted for Obama but to try and prove how "progressive" you think you are?
Driscoll is a nightmare of a Christian. He is utterly devoid of the slightest concept of humanist ethics. The is the LAST person one should consult regarding this important topic is a) a male chauvinist b) a fundamentalist Christian c) a homophobic bigot. Driscoll is all three.
brianmsbc - You are from America where bigotry is quite acceptable. It takes you guys a while to catch up to most western democracies. We're very patient though - one has to be patient with mentally disabled children.
Glad you're not the screaming fundamentalist then!!
Mate - I'm from europe - and probably one of your 'most western democracies' - and i have to say that you are clearly delusional about your own views. They're not the majority.
'Most western democracies' are hardly paradise, are they?
@anonazero Europe is a continent, not a country. Britain is not Europe, it is in Europe, and is not part of the continent. Did you miss that part at school?
@nicksum29 you (the genius european) said "Britain, friend, is hardly Europe." to which i asked "DID YOU MOVE TO A NEW CONTINENT?" because britain resides within the boundaries of europe. to which you reply "europe is a continent, not a country..." to which my sarcasm device promptly responded to you stating a known fact that was an attempt to dodge the fact that you initially made a comment that seemed to convey that britain is not part of europe.
