Where this feeder is placed it is gone in about three, four days. The amount it holds is about 12 to 13 lbs. of cracked corn. I buy 20 lbs. bags and one feeder wont take a whole bag but it takes more than half. I hope that helps. Good luck!
Thanks for this demoonstration I sure enjoyed that. Can you give me a idea of how long the pipe will feed I mean just in general I know that it depends on the amount of deer ,coon, etc that eat from it but just an idea of your exsperience about how long it feeds and the amount that it holds, thank you,Billy ?
Thanks to ALL for all the great comments. Honestly I had no idea this video would get so many hits and so many of you would build this and enjoy it. But... such is life and I am thankful to everyone that can use this idea and of course the compliments. Thanks again.
Made two of these with my son. We used 4" black pipe (saved one can of paint). We also used the door knob drill bit to core out a top and bottom of the gauge. No screw needed in the tube and when you paint the top of the gauge its even easier to see from a distance. I have two in the woods with cameras so it will be interesting to see what shows up. Thanks for the video!
Great video! I was trying to figure out the best way to put out some feed this year and this looks to be the best route. Appreciate all of the detail of the video.
As you know deer are no different than a pig in the field when it comes to eating grain. Both will empty a 50 lb feeder over night if given the opportunity.Does yours limit how much grain will drop when a deer is using it? I made a couple of these a few years back with a funnel up off its bottom a ways.Reason: As to allow its grain to fall at a much slower gravity pace.(saves on grain) Worked good until someone stole it. Built another and they stole that one too. I hand carry my grain now Bummer!
i'm from India.. i want your help..i've my project finals goin on and i thought of makin DEER FEEDER..bt my prob is dat dis is kind of simple..can u plz make it lil complicated so dat i can present it as my project????
Do you sell these? Contact me if you have an interest in selling a kit online. I love the gauge. For deer scent this year, visit vs1deerscent(dot)com and deer-calls(dot)net for handmade custom deer calls.
Just make sure that the PVC pipe you use is not GREEN ASBESTOS pipe. Cutting and scuffing that pipe will expose you to asbestos fibers.
I might also suggest that you try to incorporate some more rain protection if you live in a rainy area, but for the most part, this should be an issue.
well presented sir. and effective as well. i still have concerns of rain water effecting the grain or pellets. I think i'll modify mine with a roof of some kind...but over all very well done. and it wouldnt have to be called a red neck feeder id simply call it Smart and cost effective.
Looks pretty good, i like the orange on the rod, great idea. Now im wanting to make some feeders but my hunting is really close to corn fields so i dont know how affective a feeder will be
Great job, Bill! The only thing missing is the safety goggles and a hot tool belt. God I love a man wearing a tool belt. Nice video of the deer too ;)
thanks lots of help!!!

Used 8" pipe for more volume but simple to make and very effective. The "gravity gauge" is genious. Thanks.

valid point... simple.
I guess the feeder keeps it dry and can hold more for longer, keeps the deer in that spot or coming back for more.

If you want to complicate ANY project just jump right in with out a plan. That should make your efforts near impossible to successfully complete.

Nice job! You can eliminate the sanding of the PVC if you use Krylon "Fusion" spray paint for plastic. You can find it at Home Depot.

very original .. the bears in my area would carry that thing off .. i guess you could strap it to the tree though .
