Homosexuality has been around for thousands of years. There's nothing more conservative than that. If you tried listening to what he has to say instead of talking shit all day maybe you could open your mind and discover new perspectives and maybe move out of your mothers' basements?
Gay Republicans are like the gay men who desperately try to pick up straight guys. It is a profound expression of self hatred. It is the internalized homophobia that identifies with the position that gay men are worth less than straight men. Very sad. These people are the walking wounded of the war on everyone who is different.
Not all Republicans deffer to the party platform, there are many like Utah Former Governor John Huntsman that believes this issue should be decided not by the Federal Government but by the States, as per the 10th amendment. Libertarian Republicans recognize the contradiction set forth by the socially conservative Republicans when it comes to Federal intrusion on American lives.
Again, you're right. It's not 100% of Republicans that are hostile to gays, it's only about 95%! The other 5% are only moderately hostile, indifferent, or evade stating a clear position by passing the bucket to the states.
You're totally right, it makes perfect sense to be a gay republican. Why would a gay person NOT want to be part of a group where 95% hate you and the other 5% moderately hate you or ignore you! It's great!
@UseYerEFFINBrain Really? 95% of Republicans hate me? Do you have any links to a survey? Some cold hard numbers to back your claim?
Since we're talking about numbers and percentages, try this on for size. I agree with Republicans on about everything but same-sex marriage and I disagree with Democrats on everything but same-sex marriage.
So does it make sense for me, a gay man to vote for a party that I agree with one thing on or a party that shares the majority of my beliefs?
"Really? 95% of Republicans hate me? Do you have any links to a survey? Some cold hard numbers to back your claim?"
Well, there are 289 Republicans in congress, and only 8 voted to repeal don't ask don't tell. You're right, I was wrong in saying 5%. The actual figure is actually 2.7%. Thank you for proving me that matters are actually worse than I said.
Of the 289 Republicans in congress NONE support gay marriage, so that would make it 0%
Thanks for asking for cold hard numbers. Want more?
@UseYerEFFINBrain If it weren't for the Log Cabin Republicans that filed the suit in the first place, we wouldn't be talking about the repeal. If those Republican senators didn't break ranks to break the filibuster, we wouldn't have a repeal.
While DC doesn't have many that are championing same-sex marriage, there are Republicans outside the capital that are hardy supporters like New York State Senator Roy McDonald.
Also, I asked how many hated gays. You have yet to show me.
@UseYerEFFINBrain There are those that support Civil Unions, furthermore, even though Republicans in DC were against the repeal, the most Republican voters actually backed the repeal.
"eventhough Republicans in DC were against the repeal, most Republican voters actually backed the repeal"
Of course! DADT is indefensible, after years of concerted efforts by the gay community and other groups (including LCR) to sway public opinion, the immorality of DADT sunk in
I bet most Nazi soldiers realized Hitler was crazy by the time they were about to lose the war, too!
Is your point that republicans are LESS immoral for voting against the repeal DESPITE their constituents' wishes?
"If those Republican senators didn't break ranks to break the filibuster, we wouldn't have a repeal" You're right. It's great that 2.7% of Republicans don't hate you so much that they would deprive you of the right to serve your country.
2.7% of your Party not quite hating you as much as the rest is TOTALLY a good reason to remain a member of that Party. Why WOULDN'T you stay in a Party where 97.3% hate you! It must be awesome!
"If it weren't for the Log Cabin Republicans that filed the suit in the first place, we wouldn't be talking about the repeal"
You're embarrassingly uninformed. Log Cabin Republicans v United States was determined by the precedent set by Witt v Dept of Air Force (Margaret Witt is a democrat) and by several other cases started by progressives and liberals
The Log Cabin guys were just a drop in the bucket during the years of struggle by the entire gay and gay-friendly community
@UseYerEFFINBrain Witt vs Dept of Air Force wouldn't be possible without Lawrence vs Texas which was also contributed with the court's ruling against DADT.
"a state run by democrats" Iowa is run by Democrats?
"They are not as bad as the Nazi." Again Nazi comparisons, unless they start acting like Nazis with gun control and gas chambers, I do not see how they are anywhere close to Nazis nor do I see the relevance of that comparison.
"does it make sense for me, a gay man to vote for a party that I agree with one thing on or a party that shares the majority of my beliefs?"
Well if the one thing Republicans disagree with, is your God given right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, then, yeah, I would say that trumps the fact that they agree with you on offshore drilling or making English the official language of government, or whatever.
"God given right to Life, Liberty and the Purist of Happiness" again, they are not making death camps. If I wanted to get married, I'll just go to a state that allows it. I don't need the Government to find happiness.
I agree with Republicans on Gun Rights, States Rights, Capital Punishment, Foreign Policy, National Defense, Fiscal Policy. I'm against entitlement programs, granting citizenship to illegals, pc culture.
"If I wanted to get married, I'll just go to a state that allows it" Yup, a state run by democrats. Thank goodness Republicans aren't that popular, or you'd find your marriage options shrinking rapidly
"I don't need the Government to find happiness" Say that when they prevent you from saying goodbye to your partner on his death bed in a hospital, because visits are for family members only. That's the law on the books TODAY in most states.
@UseYerEFFINBrain "saying goodbye to your partner on his death bed in a hospital" that day might come sooner with socialized medicine looming over the horizon, that'll not only affect me but everyone else. Luckily, the enormous push-back by the conservatives and the outraged public staved off an other failed-government-program-in-the-making.
@UseYerEFFINBrain Connecticut, Hawaii, New Jersey, North Dakota, New Mexico, California, Massachusetts, Delaware, Rhode Island, Oregon. They are the top ten states with the highest debt per person. 9 of those states are blue. Democrats running everything sounds wonderful. What's even more wonderful is the UN arms treaty that Obama supported. Thankfully the Republicans with some Democratic support opposed a threat to our sovereignty.
"Connecticut, Hawaii, New Jersey, North Dakota, New Mexico, California, Massachusetts, Delaware, Rhode Island, Oregon. They are the top ten states with the highest debt per person"
Want me to pull up state data on murder rate, rape rate, teen pregnancy, pornography use, SAT scores, children living below poverty line, infant mortality, life expectancy, college graduation rate, average income, etc?
Don't cherry pick your data when trying to asses who is better state administrator
"I agree with Repubs on Gun Rights, States Rights...."
Ask yourself: If Democrats ruled 100% of govt, how much would gun rights, foreign policy, etc change? Did Obama close guantanamo? Did he slash defense budget? Did he end Afghanistan war? Is he against death penalty?
If Republicans had total control, how long before you find yourself in jail based on some bogus sodomy laws?
The only reason Repubs are semi-civilized in hatred of gays is thanks to enormous push-back by liberals
@UseYerEFFINBrain Obama is a traitor to his constituents, sold himself with promises of "change" when he delivered little. Gitmo, Patriot Act renewal, "prolonged detention", all things that he was "supposedly" against. I do not find any comfort in a man who doesn't back his word, Republican or Democrat.
Again, the Republican Party isn't uniform, the Libertarians and Moderates are uneasy with the Social Conservatives.
"the Republican Party isn't uniform, the Libertarians and Moderates are uneasy with the Social Conservatives"
Find me one republican who said something to the effect of "There is absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality. I strongly support their right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, including of course their right to marriage and having a family, their right to hospital visitation, etc"
The ONLY thing all Republicans (except log cabin) agree on is the joy of gay bashing
Don't you understand? Most republicans don't just have a problem with what you believe, they don't have a difference of opinion, they don't object to some policy you support, they have a problem with WHO YOU ARE!
How can you live with that?
You can't "agree to disagree" on whether it's ok or not for you to be who you are, and for them to fundamentally dislike your very existence.
Jenk must have had SOME upbringing if at the end of the interview he was able to say "We really do appreciate you time and your thoughts here". It even has a sound similar to sincerety. That was in the last few seconds after 4 and a half minutes of ridiculing his thoughts and him and bullying him. It was obvious that the guy is extremely intelligent but Jenk doesn't think so aparently. Credit Jenks parents as they obviously tried.
The guy seems to be pretty intelligent and makes his point of view well and clear. Especially when at 3:20 when articulating his point the retarded interviewer asks him the journalistically refined and probing question designed to enlighten and inform "On which planet"?
@bush1tman So I guess journalists can't speak like normal everyday people? Yes Cenk is not really being the epitome of the "generic journalist" but that is what is appealing to most people. Instead of the cliche, robotic, politically correct series of written down questions ready to be asked, is it not more ideal to speak in a more common dialect? Also, one must be on a different planet to believe the Reverse party has good intentions for homosexuals.
@exploremagic23 You know you are right. It does appeal to people. It does not appeal to most people or it would not be stuck on Current TV on cable. But it is entertainment after all if it is enjoyable to people. And it further proves that Mr P.T. Barnum was correct. Personally it would appeal to me if it was more journalistic which it will never seem to have a chance to be.
That dude must be pay very well by the GOP to say what he says. Cause no sane person could ever say that the GOP supports gays and do more form them then Democrats.
gay person who hates gays but he doesnt know it?... or wait he loves gays but he also supports the anti-gay people.. ah nope that doesnt make sense either... the stupidest gay retard i have ever met.. that does it
The conservatives are a welcoming party for gay people? Are you fucking kidding me! They hate gay people! The whole conservative movement is to deny embracing new ideas, to conserve and not move forward. This guy is deluded so much. The only political ideals that focus on rights for everyone are the liberals and those who favor liberty and freedom. It has never been the conservatives.
Chris Barron is WORSE than a homophobic Homosexual!!!
That retarded piece of shit actually believes that the GOP is tolerant of Gays.....holy fucking shit, that's like saying that Christians are tolerant of Atheist.
I can see how a homosexual could agree on every position of the republican party except on the gay-rights issues. But to claim the republican party are some gay chaimpions is just moronic.
@1337wafflezz You're either dumb or lying because it has nothing to with agreement with me. Like they said to be fiscally conservative, etc, is cool, but to defend men who are against your rights as a human being is equivalent to a house slave.
As a republican, this gay guy is in the WRONG side. In his heart, he's a republican but you want to pick a political party that will help you. He should be the democratic party instead. If my republican party was against with catholics & the dems are supporting catholics, who in my going to join? Of course the dems.
@EdenDoom First, there were Republican/Conservative gays before 2008, though perhaps not much in the way of organisations for them. Second, Cenk is an ex-Muslim. It's mentioned in a few of his videos for The Young Turks when they've had religious discussions. Thanks for playing.
@GayTempest P.S. just now realized that you might not understand the extremeply complex reply I sent. Basing this conclusion on how you failed to understand sarcasm.
Simple version-My comment was a joke. I did not mean the things I said. I was directing it at the stupid people who believed the homosexual gentleman in the video was making extremely powerful arguments and defeating any questions Cenk brought up.
So thank you for raising the comment count, and replying to a non existent argument.
@EdenDoom OK, I came back here to reply to Qntkka and couldn't help but notice your reply to GayTempest. There's nothing wrong with sarcasm but as I am sure you are aware there are enough ignorant nutjobs posting on here that it is sometimes hard to tell who is sarcastic and who is serious. Just because someone can't immediately tell the difference doesn't mean you need to be a condescending twit about it. See also my previous comment to qntkka.
@amarkanable Being a condescending twit is something everyone needs to be when it comes to people who go out of their way to reply to a softball comment like "there were no gay republicans before ____"
Anyone with half a brain knows that's not true, look at all the republicans in office that f**ked other guys while yelling "no fags"...
Sooo...if someone goes out of their way to attack me I generally reply similarly...
@EdenDoom It was hardly a failure to understand sarcasm on my part. You sounded just like an idiot tea-bagger. Sarcasm doesn't transfer well via writing. I didn't hear your tone or watch your body-language as though seeing you in person, and like all other people I am not a telepath so I wasn't reading your thoughts. Do you really think the stupid people even understood that you were making fun of them? They probably just rooted for you, which is still funny, but you didn't get the point across
@GayTempest and you sound like a homosexual who has been closeted for so long that you feel the need to lash out at anything that has the word "gay" in it >.>
I care not who roots for me. Also, based off of how you relied I'm sure stupid people had no clue I was being funny to myself.
While I have your attention, where did the thing about Cenk's religion come into play? Are you his personal biographer? What? Are you going to tell me about his personal life next?
@EdenDoom I've actually been out of the closet for 13 years and no, none of my messages toward you have been "lashing out." Cenk's religion came into it when you called him a "closet Muslim." You're really just making yourself out to be one angry little troll with all of the diatribes you've been spouting.
The entirety of cenk's argument is a combination of laughter, hyperbole, and insult. this isn't a debate, it's it's talking sense to an idiot that snickers at all the big words. I can see why even MSNBC wouldn't have him. by the way, what about clinton's signing in don't ask don't tell. i know just as many anti-gay democrats as i do republicans. this was garbage.
@lordundead1984 I'll concede most of your argument but hyperbole? I'm not seeing it. Cenk certainly wasn't very professional but he had a valid point. I wonder how Christopher Barron resolves the cognitive dissonance involved in supporting a political party which, on the whole, denies his identity and seeks to keep him a second-class citizen. It baffles me to be honest.
I never though how shitty it would be to be a gay guy and agree with the Republicans on fiscal issues. Since the Republicans are so anti-gay rights, who would you vote for? I feel a little bad for the guy in this interview, he seems like he's deluding himself.
@Yaarrr He's doing this amazing thing where he focuses into details he agrees with to the point that is squeezes out everything else that would be massively against him. Many Ron Paul supporters who only agree with his stance on military spending do this...
@salisbury2004 Have you ever been married or at least in a relationship? If you have ever mentioned that fact to a co-worker then you are "promoting your lifestyle" and if it happened to be a same-sex relationship that would have been grounds for discharge from the military.
Also jackass (cenk), maybe you should take a step back and look at what the issue actually is. I am I'm sure a lot of conservatives are not just against homosexuals serving openly in the military we are against SEXUALITY in general being flaunted in the military. That includes heterosexuals. Because while on duty, sexuality has no place in the military. Period. But is that too much reason for you to handle dumbass?
@freethinker424 Sorry, that's not the issue they are discussing. The issue is 'why does the guest, who's gay, favors the party that is explicitly against gay rights'.
@Qntkka So.... are you now being sarcastic with me because I didn't pick up on the "irony" of your comment? It's hard to tell. How would I know if you were being ironic or you are actually a homophobic nutjob? I've seen plenty of posts far more ignorant than yours from people who were NOT being ironic. For more information look up "Poe's law".
@Qntkka no, you arrogant fuckward from hell, the irony was not obvious. I am a person of at least average intelligence, my first language is English, and I'm telling you I've wasted hours of my life reading hundreds of comments on gay-related news stories, and I've seen many comments at least as stupid or ignorant as your ironic one from people being dead serious. I'm not the first person to have this difficulty, look up Poe's Law, or go die in a fire. And no irony/sarcasm intended here.
@spaghettipolicy Well, I wasn't trying to win, infact I aint on any side of the issue. Just evaluating the argument. If someone is sane yet they are knowingly saying contradictory statements, they are up to something. Such person is most probably a tool. He seems to be doing the straw man argument where straw man is himself! Hence my speculation.
@VinnieCool13 People who make statements such as "they are knowingly saying a contradictory statement" without providing any evidence, and then proceed to make ad hominem attacks are tools themselves.
@spaghettipolicy This person is making many contradictory statements. One of the very obvious ones is: Republican helped pass the law to allow gays serve openly in military. In reality they tried to filibuster it. Just because some republican votes were needed to stop the filibuster, that doesn't count as help. It's like if I shoot you (knowingly) and then my girlfriend takes you to hospital. You come back and thank me for saying your life by letting my gf take you to hospital
@r4t01n4L yes, he does not give answer that makes any real sense. I don't give a shit how he reconciles it. It does sound odd. That was not my statement. There is a such thing as discretion. His disposition is somewhat sad, most people watching will get that. The other guy is capitalizing on incendiary condescending remarks which make sport or humiliating this guy. If the guy were running for president we'd be having another conversation. Its called respect. I expect it; I give it.
@doxprodigy Cenk was mocking him because he was flabbergasted (as are many who watched the video) at how deluded Barron is; nothing wrong with being conservative and gay but to be out of the closet in the current Republican party? We all know they're full of closeted gays - maybe that's why Barron feels at home :-)
Also, I don't get notified of a comment if you don't put my name in exactly as is - the "r" has to be uppercase.
@animeforte369 Same thing I was thinking bro.He has a slave mentality.I know he is gay but shouldn't it hurt to get butt fucked that bad.He better be getting paid for this
i do agree that cenk was aggresive in the interview, but, it was in response to Christopher not letting any conversation through, on chris's part, rhetoric rhetoric, rhetoric, then the interview was over, no time for logical discussion
What's wrong with a gay man being conservative? Isn't that a good thing? If there were more gay republicans, they could possibly help straight conservatives see that they can stand differently on the gay issue.
@spinalcrackerbox I did NOT know that. Thanks for clarifying! I live in India so it's ok for me to make these mistakes cuz it doesn't really affect anything. I thought it was Liberal (which means ur a democrat) or Conservative (which means ur a republican).
@IndiaJacob conservative yes, republican no....marriage is between one man and one woman says it all.....we interviewed some people at a recent tea party event 7 out of 10 were on some form of govt assistance, yet they wanna get rid of all govt programs and end socialism.....talk about voting against your own interest....i know people are conditioned to hate the other party but you have to know what they stand for...
Homosexuals that have come to a different conclusion on economics than others and are changing the Republican party from within should not be subjected to this kind of abuse.
Who is really more progressive here? Cenk, who wants a gay man to know his place or Christopher Barron, a conservative changing minds from within the largest conservative party in the US.
I can imagine Republicans saying the same things to African Americans about racist Democrats in the 60s.
@KennGM That's not the point here at all. Notice Barron doesn't say that he wants to change the Republican party but that they are welcoming to gays, which as we know and as Cenk pointed out is contrary to the main party philosophy.
We'd all have more respect for Barron if he said "Look, I know most of the Repubs dislike or despise my lifestyle but I'm a conservative and this is the party for me"
srsly? DAFUQ?! just because 8 out of 23 don't hate your guts you're all of a sudden 'welcome'

You're right. They just advocate changing the constitution to explicitly deprive gay people of the basic human rights every american is entitled to
They don't advocate gas chambers or lynchings, just the systematic downgrading of an entire minority to second-class-citizen status
But, again, I agree: the Republican party is not as bad as the Nazis or the KKK. What do you want, a cookie?

UseYerEFFINBrain 3 weeks ago

UseYerEFFINBrain 3 weeks ago
@UseYerEFFINBrain
These aren't trivial issues.
kristoffersayshi 3 weeks ago

What's even more wonderful is the UN arms treaty that Obama supported. Thankfully the Republicans with some Democratic support opposed a threat to our sovereignty.

UseYerEFFINBrain 3 weeks ago
Don't you understand? Most republicans don't just have a problem with what you believe, they don't have a difference of opinion, they don't object to some policy you support, they have a problem with WHO YOU ARE!
How can you live with that?
You can't "agree to disagree" on whether it's ok or not for you to be who you are, and for them to fundamentally dislike your very existence.
That's the ultimate deal breaker!

Credit Jenks parents as they obviously tried.
bush1tman 3 weeks ago
The guy seems to be pretty intelligent and makes his point of view well and clear. Especially when at 3:20 when articulating his point the retarded interviewer asks him the journalistically refined and probing question designed to enlighten and inform "On which planet"?
bush1tman 3 weeks ago
@bush1tman So I guess journalists can't speak like normal everyday people? Yes Cenk is not really being the epitome of the "generic journalist" but that is what is appealing to most people. Instead of the cliche, robotic, politically correct series of written down questions ready to be asked, is it not more ideal to speak in a more common dialect? Also, one must be on a different planet to believe the Reverse party has good intentions for homosexuals.
exploremagic23 3 weeks ago
@exploremagic23 You know you are right. It does appeal to people. It does not appeal to most people or it would not be stuck on Current TV on cable. But it is entertainment after all if it is enjoyable to people. And it further proves that Mr P.T. Barnum was correct. Personally it would appeal to me if it was more journalistic which it will never seem to have a chance to be.

EdenDoom 1 month ago
@EdenDoom OK, I came back here to reply to Qntkka and couldn't help but notice your reply to GayTempest. There's nothing wrong with sarcasm but as I am sure you are aware there are enough ignorant nutjobs posting on here that it is sometimes hard to tell who is sarcastic and who is serious. Just because someone can't immediately tell the difference doesn't mean you need to be a condescending twit about it. See also my previous comment to qntkka.
amarkanable 1 month ago
@amarkanable Being a condescending twit is something everyone needs to be when it comes to people who go out of their way to reply to a softball comment like "there were no gay republicans before ____"
Anyone with half a brain knows that's not true, look at all the republicans in office that f**ked other guys while yelling "no fags"...
Sooo...if someone goes out of their way to attack me I generally reply similarly...
EdenDoom 1 month ago
@EdenDoom It was hardly a failure to understand sarcasm on my part. You sounded just like an idiot tea-bagger. Sarcasm doesn't transfer well via writing. I didn't hear your tone or watch your body-language as though seeing you in person, and like all other people I am not a telepath so I wasn't reading your thoughts. Do you really think the stupid people even understood that you were making fun of them? They probably just rooted for you, which is still funny, but you didn't get the point across
GayTempest 1 month ago
@GayTempest and you sound like a homosexual who has been closeted for so long that you feel the need to lash out at anything that has the word "gay" in it >.>
I care not who roots for me. Also, based off of how you relied I'm sure stupid people had no clue I was being funny to myself.
While I have your attention, where did the thing about Cenk's religion come into play? Are you his personal biographer? What? Are you going to tell me about his personal life next?
Please don't, I don't care tbh...
EdenDoom 1 month ago
@EdenDoom I've actually been out of the closet for 13 years and no, none of my messages toward you have been "lashing out." Cenk's religion came into it when you called him a "closet Muslim." You're really just making yourself out to be one angry little troll with all of the diatribes you've been spouting.
GayTempest 1 month ago
The entirety of cenk's argument is a combination of laughter, hyperbole, and insult. this isn't a debate, it's it's talking sense to an idiot that snickers at all the big words. lordundead1984 1 month ago
@lordundead1984 I'll concede most of your argument but hyperbole? I'm not seeing it. Cenk certainly wasn't very professional but he had a valid point.
