I definitely recommend reading the books. :) They're filled with explanations so plot makes more sense, and you get to know more about the world and the characters you've gotten to know and love through the movies.

It's just that thousands of us grew up reading these books on and off throughout our childhood. What shaped me was both directly, yes, but also indirectly due to the Harry Potter franchise. Thinking about all of this made me cry. I have yet to watch the movie. I couldn't do it right after the premiere here in Germay. I still have to do it and I know it will be so very emotional.

I LOVE Harry Potter, and believe the saga is a great example of love, friendship, bravery, and the triumph of good over evil. However, it's not wise to place the sanctity of your life on an earthly story. Instead, you should know that Jesus Christ is our savior, for he paid for our sins when he died on the cross. Through Him we may have eternal life. I'm glad you've made great friends, and completely understand why you love the series, but please be careful about idolizing a book.

And it never CONTROLLED my life, it only changed my life slightly. Because I would not be the same person today without the friends and experiences I've gained through the Harry Potter community.

@cXColdBloodedXc I believe I'd be myself whether I'd read Harry Potter or not, but if I had never read the books when I was young, and signed up for a Harry Potter forum, I might never have met my best friend, for example. But apart from certain changes, my core personality would still be the same. I never let it control me or be the center of my whole existence. I, myself, have been the center of my own life. With little HP experiences and gatherings spread out here and there over ten years.

Certain things that you're exposed to in life, tend to effect you and your personality. For me Harry Potter as well as The inheritance Cycle and several other series have changed my life, and my outlook on certain things. It is a part me me..
