Yes, as gamehendge said, he plays sixteenths between the hi hat (or ride) and the snare and hits the 2 and 4. He also sometimes puts a double on the "and-a" of the 1 and 3 with the bass drum to fill in the space like in YEM. You have to make sure not to accent any of the notes to get that smooth flowing sound he does. I've since learned that this is a jazz technique and you can even do it with sixteenth triplets for an alternate effect. Practice it and you'll have it in no time dude!
